Journalist John Mulcahy's first novel deals with a busy five-year stretch of Irish the landing of the French in Mayo in 1798, the murky period leading up to the passing of the Act of the Union and the Robert Emmett rebellion of 1803.
A good read, if a little heavy on history. The fiction had moments where it was wonderfully written, especially in Jamaica, but also had some awful lines and lack of proof reading. Could have been polished up by some better editing. Do not expect an average historical fiction/romance. Seems to have been written so the author could show off his knowledge of Irish history and so he could mention Hibernian Magazine repeatedly.
