Constable Teddy Creque has to get to the bottom of a murder committed during a British royal reception in this lively and atmospheric mystery set in the sunny Caribbean.
When Constable Teddy Creque is assigned to the security detail at a grand reception on the little island of Tortola for Princess Portia and her husband Lord Sutherland, he’s prepared for a British royal night out. He’s less prepared for an evening of dreary small talk about bond prices and tax havens. But at least the event is going smoothly, he tells himself . . . That is, until it’s cut dramatically short by a shot ringing out from the direction of the garden.
Anxious that one of the royals is in danger, Teddy springs into action. He has to get the royal pair to safety, but first he has to find them. And they’re not the only ones missing – where is his superior, Deputy Commissioner Howard Lane?
Soon, in the depths of the tropical darkness, Teddy has his answer – and is confronted by his worst nightmare. Plunged into his most high-profile investigation yet, Teddy knows he has to solve this case fast . . . or heads will roll.
Reefs, Royals, Reckonings is the fourth novel in the Teddy Creque mystery by award-winning author John Keyse-Walker. Readers of traditional mysteries with tropical settings, lively characters and exciting plot twists will be thrilled.
When a royal Princess and her crass American husband come to visit the British Virgin Islands, Teddy Creque is one of the security detail. During the party for the princess, his boss, the depiuty commissioner, is found standing above his wife's body, a smoking gun in his hand, almost castatonic. Teddy does not want to arrest a man he reveres, but it does seem like the deputy may be guilty. For security's sake, and to keep them from fleeing back to the United Kingdom, Teddy persuades the royal party to visit his home island, the smallest in the BVI, Anegada. Unfortunately for Teddy, the woman who once stole his heart, almost his life, and a bag of emeralds, is also part of the royal party, which displeases his current girlfriend.
Hurrah! Teddy Creque is back on Anegada in the British Virgin Islands in this 4th book. His peaceful island is hosting a visit from minor Royals and during the Reception a guest is murdered (the local Police Commander’s wife!). Teddy and his friend “da White Rasta” who just happens to be a member of the British aristocracy but prefers the island life are put in charge of the investigation and must tread lightly around the Royals to keep all parties available for questioning. Many references to events in previous books were helpful when certain characters reappeared. It was fairly obvious who the perp might be but it was fun watching all the ins and outs of the investigation to exonerate his boss and bring the real culprit to justice. Lots of island color. Interesting final developments in Teddy’s life. Look forward to more trips to Anegada.
Reefs, Royals, Reckonings is the fourth novel in the Teddy Creque mystery series. A murder is committed during a British royal reception for Princess Portia and her new husband. When Teddy's boss, deputy commissioner Howard Lane becomes the main suspect in the murder, Teddy pulls out all the stops to clear him. This was the first book I've read in this series and it had me hooked from page one. I liked the authors style of writing, the small island setting and the quirky characters. I' look forward to reading the next book in this addictive series. Thank you for the ARC netgalley.
Did the Deputy Commissioner really kill his wife during a reception for visiting British royalty to Tortola? That's the problem Constable Teddy Creque is facing in this fourth in a light hearted series set in the Caribbean. Teddy has to solve the murder, absolve his boss, and protect the royals, all while maintaining a good relationship with his wife, Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's entertaining and entirely enjoyable as a standalone.
I want to read more stories in this series as it's highly entertaining, compelling and well plotted. Lovely setting and characters, excellent storytelling. Loved it Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I will not lie I knew who did it, the motive, and the why from the first 25 pages of this book. I was not impressed but I do love a mystery every once in awhile. This book very much gives Agatha Christie which is not a bad thing but sharing the comparisons. Turns out this is book 4 of the Teddy Creque series. Overall not the best mystery book but it took place in the BVIs which was cool.
