I thought this book would be an enjoyable glimpse into the life experience and learnings of an accomplished surgeon. That is what 20% of this book covers, and the other 80% is completely “back in my day” rants about the evils of healthcare today, including predictable (e.g., insurance companies, productivity metrics) and unexpected (e.g., robotic surgery) enemies. I suspect if the author neared the end of his career in the mid-19th century, he’d rant about the evils of handwashing, claiming that it removes his ability to leave a bacterial imprint on his patients. I do not recommend this book.

Kind of repetitive. Needed organization in the story telling. Informative from a surgeons perspective. A little ranting about regulations .
