In the old cells area of the former Kimotan Rapids police station, three men are found dead. With no signs of violence and drug activity in the area on the rise, police believe accidental overdoses are to blame.
Concerned the investigation might not be moving in the right direction, one man’s family hires private investigators Sully and Dez to check into the incident. After a visit to the abandoned building, Sully discovers he can see the men’s ghosts—and that can mean only one thing.
The men’s deaths weren’t accidental. They were homicides.
Who is responsible for these deaths? Why have some of Riverview’s most vulnerable residents become targets? What connects these murders with the deaths of a pair of brothers two decades ago?
And who else might die if Sully and Dez can’t find—and stop—those responsible?
The Braddock & Gray Case Files take mystery and give it a ghostly twist. The series is a follow-up to the highly rated, seven-book Sullivan Gray Series.
Raised on a farm on the Canadian Prairies, words quickly became my means of exploring the world around me and giving life to the one created in my imagination. Fascinated by ghost stories and crime fiction, I have been writing both for well over two decades, drawing on more than fifteen years in a career in a criminal justice setting. When not putting Scrivener through its paces, I enjoy reading, portrait drawing, travel and spending time with family and friends.
Shees, Bayne really knows how to set the mood, This first chapter is tense, and creepy and had me looking over my shoulder more than once.
And things get even more thrilling since that point. Sull and Dez are investigating what seems to be an open and closed case while Lachlan is pursuing a high-stakes one involving politics and corruption. But of course, the case proves to be more difficult and complex than they imagined and, somehow, ends up mixing with Lachlan's.
There is a lot of suspense and some deeply emotional moments, some involving the brothers, some involving Lachlan, and some involving those living relatives of the ghosts Sull finds trying to solve the case.
We get a nice cameo from a character from Hell's Gate. No, no Wray, but Mars. It was nice to see him :D
In short, this is an exciting book and oh, so good! This series never disappoints me!
I have read, and thoroughly enjoyed, each of H.P. Bayne's numerous books. Just when you think brothers Sully and Dez have experienced every type of ghostly encounter possible, the author manages to deliver another innovative, surprisingly creepy, and deeply suspenseful novel. The intensely personal family issues involving addiction and its impacts was particularly emotion-inducing. This is the first time a book of this genre has reduced me to tears. Not once. Not twice. But three times...testament to the author's eloquent and powerful writing style.
I give this book a strong 5-star rating, because it has it all: murder, intrigue, suspense, and deep familial bonds. (Full disclosure: I was provided with an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.)
Is there EVER enough Braddock & Gray?? The stories are always so fresh. Never a repeat or reused storyline! With each novel, KR becomes more dimensional ! The old Abandoned police station was a truly interesting backdrop for some highly disturbing "questionable" overdoses and accidents. Sully and Dez always seem to have their work cut out for them, but some SERIOUS and possibly deadly complications arise when several different cases collide and put close friends in jeopardy. Even when you THINK you know how it's going to end , the end twists AGAIN lol.. I love that.. and I Love the fabulous escape these incredible stories bring me!! I am ALL IN!! already pre-ordered the next one!!
I will one-click anything written by H.P. Bayne and I am never disappointed. The Braddock and Gray series is my favorite. I love the way Sully and Des help and support each other, even though Sully's ability makes Des nervous. The latest case seems open and shut, but when Sully goes into the building, he can see their ghosts, which means only one thing-these people were murdered. I enjoy following along with them as they solve each case with grace and a touch of humor. I would highly recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Set in part in the old police station this one brings up ghosts in more than one form for the boys. While the authors states these are stand alone I don't think you'll appreciate this one as much without the first series. Read that one first. Honestly read it first in general. The books are fantastic and give more depth to this series. I liked seeing some of the old faces in this one I miss the whole crew getting together.
Another excellent book in this series! I have loved every one of these books. Sully and Dez get involved with a case that starts out pretty simple. That changes quickly into one of their most complex cases so far. The last chapter- Sully’s memories had tears pouring down my face. It was a perfect ending for this book and so powerful. I can’t wait for the next book!!
I absolutely love Sully and Dez. They are just such freaking awesome characters. I love how quick Sully’s mind is and how he and Dez can work together and understand each other without saying a word. I love how Sully is able to help the ghosts he sees and that no matter how terrified Dez may be, he is there at his brother’s side. Such a beautiful relationship. I loved this book.
Thirteen stories and still it holds strong. This one made cry a bit at the end, but it's another cracking ghost story. This one involves the police, informants, drugs and how a bunch of drug addicts families are trying to get over the death of their difficult family members, Lachlan isn't doing so well either, but alls well that ends well really. A strong cracking story.
Brilliant, as usual. Once I started reading I just could not stop. Sully is once again needed to help the ghosts of three young men and because Sully can see them they have obviously been murdered. Well worth five stars.
This is the 13th Book in the paranormal thriller Book Series in the Braddock &Gray Case Files .
Another fantastic book by this author I'm never disappointed can't wait until the next book in this series . I can't wait to get into your newest series to .
Wonderful! Parts made me shiver and the last part of the book I read through tears. I don’t know how H.P. Bayne does it, but the series just gets better and better!
As always was not disappointed i dont know how you come up with this stuff but i can never put them down. From your fb page I honestly thought this was the last book in the series then at the end of this book i see you have another in the works i can sleep happily xx
The Braddock and Gray Case Files series are always a good read. This one finds Sully and Dez tying old murders with recent overdose victims to uncover corruption.
As always, the stories of Sully and Dez are exciting, suspenseful and heartwarming. I feel like I know the characters personally. Looking forward to many more adventures with them
♾️/⭐️ I have loved every book in the original and current series and haven’t put it down since starting book 1 of the original series - my favourite author of all time! So many different elements mixed into one with so many twists as usual, perfect and emotional ending. Highly recommend!
This book was beyond excellent. Left me in tears. The character dynamics work flawlessly. There's ghosts, murder, drugs and family all in a wonderfully good book.
