This edited volume was a nice resource when I was in graduate school. Edward Banfield selected a series of works to illustrate different key issues in urban politics.

There are eight sections: Urban Government as a Subject for Study; Urban Government in the Federal System; The Machine and Its Reform; "Good Government"; The Trend of Urban Politics; Influence and Leadership; Problems of Management; Thw Formation of Policy.

Among authors of individual selections?James Q. Wilson, Norton Long, Morton Grodzins, Frank Goodnow, Luther Gulick, Martin Meyerson, Banfield himself, James Bryce, Robert Merton, Jane Addams, Charles Adrian, Samual Lubell, Frank Sorauf, Floyd Hunter, Robert Dahl, and on and on it goes.

A good representation of key ideas from the late 1960s. . . .
