Dragon #2

Dragon Traders

Rate this book
Getting abducted by slavers wasn't part of the plan. Not that there was much of a plan to begin with, but it had definitely involved more payment and fewer chains. Ashe can't help but feel a bit of panic when the meeting to sell dragon eggs, which were hunted down weeks earlier, turns sour, and he ends up drugged, caged, and on his way to a land where elves are pets.

To make matters worse, the only person who has a chance of saving him is Katsu. Katsu, who after two weeks of sex is still an enigma. Katsu, who isn't exactly the best combatant on the team. Ashe can only hope that this enigma might still have a few tricks up his sleeve, or Ashe's fate is sealed.

J.B. McDonald

JB has been writing fiction of some sort or another since she was eight years old, when she started with the highly acclaimed and illustrated, “Bucky the Bronco and his Missing Horseshoe.” Everyone in the McDonald household heard about it. Most even read it. Then they made the fatal mistake of encouraging it, and before anyone quite knew how it happened, JB declared that she was going to spend the rest of her life writing.

She wrote online for a stretch and warped a good many people. They sent heartfelt thanks and, on occasion, gift baskets. Sometimes they even brought her cheese sauce and wine. They were less appreciative of the gift of the world’s worst porn, which, thankfully, has gone by the wayside.

JB is possessed of a sense of humor that just will not quit, despite how many stick beatings it’s been through. She also has a cheerfully evil laugh that brings terror to many young hearts. She sadly lacks in cooking skills, which is why the gift baskets and cheese sauce are so important. Instead of cooking, or doing anything as time-consuming as eating regularly, she devotes all her time to writing so that she can inflict more horror—that is, fiction—on you, her hopefully devoted fans.

JB can be reached at her website (https://www.JBMcDonaldScribblesHere.w...), as long as you don't get distracted by her ravings or adorable pictures and videos of her service dog, Doc.

I enjoyed this one more than the previous one. I’ve warmed to Ashe and his ability to get into trouble constantly. And Katsu is intriguing.

The second installment of Ashe and Katsu's story (which really needs to be read in sequence) begins to deal with some of the issues that occur when two complete strangers, of different species, fall in lust. The elf and the human may have fun when they share their tent at night, but there is more to a relationship than sleeping together.

At least that is the case for Ashe. He is the far more open one of the men; he likes to talk, wants to know what Katsu is thinking, and has a hard time understanding if his taciturn lover really likes him or just wants him as a – 'bedwarmer'. His irrepressible nature suffers a severe blow in this story, when he gets kidnapped, and it was interesting to see him deal with the situation. Ashe is a fighter, though, and he doesn’t easily give up.

Katsu is quiet, self-sufficient and seems to hate human contact. He carries some deep secrets though and what I got to see in this story, as he rushes to free Ashe, made me understand why he may be a bit hesitant to open up. When he does, because he cannot let Ashe turn away from him, it becomes obvious why he is careful about sharing his secrets.

This story is definitely a turn toward the more serious aspects of a beginning relationship. Both Ashe and Katsu deal with the issues in their own way, but it becomes obvious that there is more between these two than lust. What, exactly, remains to be seen, but that, I suspect, is for the next few volumes to reveal… If you like fantasy, if you're looking for an adventure story about faraway lands and different cultures, and if you enjoy watching two men 'battle out' the way they relate to each other, then you will probably like this short story.

We learn more about Ashe and Katsu in this second book. It's been about two weeks since Ashe and Katsu found the dragon eggs and have been sharing a bed. Ashe opens up to Eddie, a fellow mercenary, about feeling like Katsu only wants him for the sex and nothing more. Ashe wants more from the enigmatic Katsu but just isn't getting it. Ashe, Katsu and Eddie travel to a good size city to sell the dragon eggs to a none too honest trader. Ashe decides that he's going to keep the smaller greenish egg for himself as payment for finding the cache of eggs. Ashe decides to see the trader, Byron, alone to sell the eggs after being coached on their value by Katsu. Byron wants more than the dragon eggs and drugs and cages Ashe to sell as a slave on the coast. Katsu and Eddie get worried that Ashe is gone so long so Eddie rides back to camp for help and Katsu. Katsu has a plan to save Ashe but needs his absolute trust which Ashe gives having no real choice. The rest of the mercenaries ride in and and another happy ending comes to the guys. I'm very much enjoying the way Ms McDonald is slowly opening and showing more about the mysterious medic and now killer Katsu. Ashe and Katsu are the perfect match for eachother. The story is short and fast paced with just the right amount left dangling to draw you into the next book. I'm hooked on Ashe and Katsu and want more.

3.5 stars. This story continues where Dragon Hunted finished. Ashe and Katsu want to sell all of the dragon eggs they salvaged from the Dragon hunt. Nate has put them in touch with a merchant - who is not very trustworthy - so they set off to sell the eggs. As they get to the town, they seem to gather a lot of unwanted attention - for both Ashe and Katsu - as they are both rarities in this area. As they decide on a new plan, Ashe goes alone to sell the eggs. When he doesn't return in a reasonable time, Katsu and Eddie know something has gone terribly wrong. Eddie sets off back to Nate to get a party to rescue Ashe. Katsu decides to take matters into his own hands and goes after the caravan of the trader who has kidnapped Ashe to sell the elf into slavery. Things get pretty harrowing from there. It's quite touch and go and there are losses along the way. I cannot wait to read the next one!

Great :)
Another really good book by J.B. McDonald. I enjoyed the first of the Dragon books and hoped she would keep it up. She has, and I had to give it 5 stars for maintaining the quality and getting me even more hooked this time.
I love the main characters, Ashe and Katsu, and I can't wait to read the next in the series.
These stories have everything I like: plot, humour, fantasy, DRAGONS, a randy elf (it's part of being an elf, not his fault, you understand) a human with a delightfully grumpy personality and a strange past (which is getting more complex with each book) and just the right amount of sex.
Yum. Can't wait to read the 3rd book.

I'm actually surprised by how much I'm enjoying this world. I wish I could get more than the little glimpses at a time into it, but what I do see is great fun, and it makes me glad there are already so many more stories in the series.

A little less lighthearted than Dragon Hunted, but still fun. Two weeks after 'geting' Katsu Ashe starts to worry about 'why' and 'how long' he'll get to keep the fascinating human. The trip to sell the dragon eggs doesn't go smoothly, but with Ashe involved that was to be expected.
