Coming from a social work perspective, this book did a great job of explaining the core concepts of law and the legal system, and how to understand law documents and legal research. Chapters covered social workers' roles throughout the hearing process, detailing ethical guidelines, proper documentation procedures, the specifics of testifying in court, and collaboration methods with law professionals. It also examined prominent social work related areas of law, including criminal justice, juvenile justice, child protection, education, healthcare, guardianship, adult domestic relations and parentage, and treatment of individuals with mental disorders.
Although it could be quite dense at times, this book proved to be extremely informative as it explored specific court cases that influenced the legal history of social workers' practice and roles. I really look forward to utilizing this in my future practice with child welfare.
