Rate this book
A flirty, feel-good novel that takes you on a journey of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Perfect for fans of Mary B. Morrison and Briana Cole.

"I gave you fifteen years, two kids, and my everything. You still chose to give a woman you barely knew the ring, the house, and my happily-ever-after."

Dallas once believed in forever love, but that was before her marriage had hit a dead end. When Trenton Smith walks into her life, he’s ready to love her the way she deserves to be loved—only Dallas’ walls are up. In time she will know if he is merely history on repeat, or the kindred connection she’s been praying for.

Sasha wanted nothing more than to have a baby with her fiancé, Hunt. After years of trying to conceive, she’s finally concluded that a baby may not be in the cards for her. Sasha begins to question her womanhood, and before long, it sends her into a fit of depression—until she finds comfort in the arms of another man.

After dating the momma’s boy, the thug, and her ultimate favorite—the tired brother with good sex but no money, Candace finally finds her knight in shining armor. Things are going well until she discovers the roommate he conveniently failed to mention. When Sasha’s brother, Diego, decides to help mend her heart, Candace soon realizes that her soul mate may have been right under her nose the entire time.

Candace, Dallas, and Sasha are three best friends who are in very toxic relationships/situationships. Candace felt safe and secure with Jaxon until she received a surprise visit at work one day that shattered her “perfect” relationship. Dallas had given 15 years of her life (and two kids) to Messiah only for him to leave her for his mistress. She had to learn to accept their new reality and stop allowing Messiah to play with her mind and heart. Sasha wanted nothing more than to be a mom and the possibility of that not happening for her and Hunter really depressed her. Hunter was diabolical - that’s all I’ll say about him.

This is my first read by Danielle Marcus and I’ve heard that she normally writes stories that are fast-paced with nonstop drama and that’s exactly what this was. If you’re in the mood for a messy read with some love sprinkled in - this is the one.

The overall plot was alright although some of the story lines was way over the top. In some spaces, it was too much of a wow factor like when ole girl cheated with her husband's father. That piece came out of nowhere and it was so random and then on to the next thing. I know that women like being/feeling "claimed", but the possessiveness that went on with all of the men in this book whether toxic or otherwise was a little too much for my sake. The way they spoke was as if they owned the women's bodies and for me, it wasn't a turn on and didn't sound sexy. Just my 2 cents.

3.5-4✨

Thick of Love has three POVs and follows three friends, Dallas, Candice, and Sasha. Each character had their relationship woes, and the author explored the highs and lows as they occurred. Dallas was a divorcee and co-parents with her ex-husband. Candice has been in a relationship, but her best friend's brother is applying pressure to make her his. Sasha was eager to be a mother but had trouble conceiving. Each woman’s journey is different, but their friendship and support were an important factor and theme throughout. There were secrets and unexpected challenges in each relationship. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, something else would happen. Once the women allowed themselves to experience a healthy relationship, things started to take a turn in a positive direction. However, their exes were not going down without a fight. I went through the motions with this one. Diego, Trenton, and Devaughn were just what the women needed. By far, Devaughn and Diego had me swooning so much. The men weren’t perfect, but they loved hard, and I appreciated that. It was a challenge to keep up with the POVs and secrets at times. I also would have liked more of Devaughn and Sasha’s relationship to happen on the page. I think this would be a good book club read and discussion.

I received an arc from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Thick of Love is unputdownable multicultural interest fiction by Danielle Marcus.

Dallas, Candace, and Sasha are friends as tight as sisters. Romance is a complicated subject for them all right now, but they’re determined to find their own true love. What will they find on the road to love?

Danielle Marcus is a ‘new to me’ author, but I enjoyed the read and will read other works by this author. The characters are well-rounded with adequate backstories. The plot is well-conceived and properly paced with interesting twists. I literally couldn’t put it down. Thick of Love is a definite 5 star read that I highly recommend to anyone looking for excellent contemporary multicultural romance.

My thanks toKensington Books, Black Odyssey Media, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.

First I was trying to figure out why the hell it’s so many damn characters!! Although it was a little annoying at first I’m glad the character development was on point & I enjoyed every single one of them. Sasha & Devon love story was everything & baby girl Zion brought them together even more! Hunt really did the most, he know he lost a good thing, living a whole lie like that for years, is crazy work. Messiah was really a no good for nothing! Thought he would always have his cake & ice cream, he really lost his rabbit ass mind. I’m so glad Dallas finally saw the light, Trenton was exactly what she needed. He was all about her & her kids! He was ready for that instant family & I am here for it! Candace really fought over someone who was for everybody, smh. Jackson a real lame for tryna blackmail her and Diego.

Giving this book 3.75 stars. I really liked the premise of the 3 friends and all the things that were going on in their lives and each of their romance.
Dallas is a mom to her two kids and she’s going through a nasty separation from her ex who she caught cheating but she finds a good man who shows her and her kids what a good guy is like. Lots of sweet moments in this story. Especially having Messiah Jr. learn to like Trent.
Sasha has been wanting kids for a long time with her fiancé Hunt. This story hurt bad because you could
Feel how badly she wanted things and he wasn’t giving them. Then to find out his secret family and all the lies. It was crazy but happy she got the ending she deserved with another good guy, a sweet girl to adopt and finally getting pregnant.
Candace and Diego story was probably my favorite. It was sweet. He was all about her and had been all about her since they were kids. I loved how they interacted and how he was always lifting her up.

Overall great book. Writing was a little confusing at time but this book is one I’d happily recommend!

Three friends, three relationships, and plenty of ups and downs. Dallas, Sasha, and Candice are friends who are all in bad situations. The men in their lives are cheaters, liars, and manipulators. The women are relatively strong, but when it comes to love women can get a little weak in the knees at times. Enter Diego, Trenton, and Devaughn. These three men possess the ability to give these women the real love and soft life they desire........ they just have to learn to let that toxicity go. I enjoyed taking the ride with these characters in every chapter. I thought I couldn't stand Messiah but ohhhhhhh someone pulls a stunt that made my jaw drop literally! I won't reveal who it is, but trust me you'll be shocked too! This was definitely a good read. And the cover is one of my absolute favorites!

This one wasn’t for me. I like the idea of following 3 besties (I literally wrote a book about it!) but in order for these 3 to grow they all had to start of being…ugh. Unfortunately, I never grew to like any of them. Or any of the characters. I like some spice, but 3 stories means 3X the spice and that got to me a little much. Also the narration was weird…I had to listen to it on 2X speed, which is faster than my usual.

It’s like a 2.5 rounded up because the character growth was good and it was a quick, easy listen.

(Luckily, I took one for the team for book club and we’ve now changed our book for the month to something else! 😂)

I read this in one day because every time I said “I’ll put it down after this chapter” I had to keep going! Ooooohh the scandal and the drama in this book! I never wanted to crawl into a book so bad to smack a man upside his head. But if I ever see Devaugh in these streets :::Kevin hart voice::: ITS ABOUT TO GO DOWN!

This is told in 3rd person with multiple POV’s. 3rd person isn’t usually my favorite but this was done nicely. I enjoyed reading about these 3 women’s lives and felt like I was watching “waiting to exhale” part 2 🥰

This was definitely a page-turner! Fast paced drama and followed the 3 main characters (Sasha, Candace, and Dallas) pretty evenly. I love their sisterhood and how their shared experiences overlap. I do however, wish some of the side storylines were expanded on a little more like Candy’s dance studio, Trenton in the military, or even Hunter’s double life. This is an urban young adult book about love, heartbreak, and finding yourself again througg love.

Messy

This book wasn’t the type of fiction that i normally read. It had more of a street lit feel than I expected. It took me awhile to get into it, but it did grow on me. The men in this book were a trip. They were so selfish and immature. The women enabled their bad behavior. Each of the women went through so much trauma and mess on their road to happily ever after. Despite it being a different genre for me, I still thought it was entertaining.

3 women struggling with 3 men they thought were their forever until they weren’t. 3 men trying to prove they are worthy of love and forever. This book is a perfect mixture of real life mess and drama. If you want a real life based romance drama. This is the book for you. Some of the me. Give dom vibes.

3.5 maybe? Loved the girls, Sasha, Candace and Dallas! But the story was a bit much. There was so much drama from those toxic ass men. I felt like this could have been broken down into a 3 part series. At times it was difficult to follow the dialogue. Nonetheless, the book kept my interest with laughable moments and the spice levels were just enough.

Too much

This was too much drama.. like every 2 pages something new.. it was almost as if every possible idea for drama was thrown together to formulate this book. It didn’t flow, nor ever get to the beautiful story that this could have been. This was traumatic

I will give it a 2.8⭐️
Pros:
I loved the friendship dynamic between the three women. Despite how they acted, with both the ex’s and new men, they were likable characters.
I will admit I laughed during some scenes, and found myself needing to flip through the pages to find out what was going to happen next. My attention was kept for sure.

Cons:
I’m kind of mad at this being a love story. I was not a fan of the constant comparing and harboring hurt . It’s as if all three women could not be released from the shackles of toxicness from ex’s until the last page. Holding on to hurt and making the next guy (actually willing to show real love) pay for it is not my kind of trope. Not to mention the book was a little too repetitive with it all. Lastly, I didn’t like the writing style at times.

In the end, I would have loved for the author to highlight more on the genuine love these women found, and cut back on giving the toxic ex’s all the attention.

I’d give this book a solid 3.5 stars. It was a really good read overall, but at times it was hard to keep up with all the different POVs. The story follows three friends, their exes, and their new baes, which made it a little confusing trying to remember who was with who. Each friend started off with weak men, and I found myself thinking, dang, not one of them had a decent man?! Every single one had to start over. Whew!

I really wish Sasha and Devaughn’s story had been explored more, because out of all the new men, he seemed like the true gentleman. Their dynamic deserved more attention. That said, the book definitely kept me turning the pages, and the audio version was well done. Now Messiah and Jaxon? Total Baby Boy/scrub energy. They just couldn’t get it together!

Guys, someone turned this book into a movie on Tubi. The exact same character names and the exact same plot. The name of the movie is “Love All Over Me”. I haven’t watched it yet but I watched the trailer and o kept wondering why the plot seemed so familiar to me. I’m currently reading the book and I’m almost finished but I’ll watch it after I’ve completed the book. Just wanna let people knw just in case anyone wants to check it out.

When I tell you this book was FULL of AUDACITY!!! The whole time I was over here reading and shaking my head. I went through all the motions with this read, cause excuse me?!

Messiah, Jackson, and Hunt - TRASH! They were all narcissist, wanting their cake and eating everybody else's. It always seems like after some people have lost it all, then they realize what they had. And all the trifling women who dealt with them that were beyond bold, ugh!

Dallas was stuck in that 15 year shoulda, coulda, woulda rut, but I'm glad she finally came out and gave a real man a chance to love her properly. Trent might've had his issues, but he was gentle with her while still having boundaries. I don't blame him for drawing the line with Messiah, cause he was taking advantage of her and trying to make sure he sabotaged all her efforts to move on.

Candace was slow to see real, but I can't blame her for having reservations about Diego. He still had a little bit of street in him, so she was right to be cautious. I did want to hear that he handled Jackson or had somebody do it, cause why he thought he owned her and had a whole woman at home.

Sasha was my favorite character in terms of life. When the truth came out, she didn't play with Hunt or let him play in her face like the other 2 kept allowing. It probably helped that Devon was there for comfort, but she was ready to lose it all for her peace, and I'm here for all that. Take your car, money, and business, I will be ok!

My first read by Danielle Marcus and I look forward to diving deeper in the her collection!

Messiness, black folks and love! Who could ask for anything more??!??

Meet three friends, Sasha, Dallas and Candace, who are having different kinds of relationship issues.

Dallas’ no good baby daddy left her and their kids after 15 years to get engaged to his mistress, but feels he can come in and out of her life as he pleases. When Dallas meets a new man, Trenton (who gives me Kofi Siriboe vibes), does she have the strength to fight off her trifling baby daddy in order to heal and find love with Trenton?

Candace has what looks like an amazing man with a good head on his shoulders and living like a grown man, but after 2 years he still hasn’t popped the question. When she starts to see her best friends brother Diego in different light, she gives him a chance and maybe her heart. But will Diego’s street life past cause more harm to their future?

Sasha’s life seems great with her fiancé Hunter but the only thing missing is a baby. They have been together for 6 years, engaged for 2, and have been trying to get pregnant for awhile. When you find out what’s really stopping them, you won’t believe it. My face was stuck like this 😮

I couldn’t put this one down at all. One sitting and the book was read and had me wanting to know what’s next for these three friends. It read like how I would talk to my friends and I felt so invested in the story. Talking to the author, I’m excited about what’s next! Beautiful work Danielle Marcus!!

The cover is gorgeous but the plot is messyyyy.

This book is about three best friends and their toxic relationships. Dallas was recently left by her husband of 15 years for a younger and "hotter" little miss thing. Not only did he do her dirty like that he also got engaged to the mistress! Even after he did her like that she STILL let him hit. Like girl STAND UP! Trenton was the perfect man for her.

If I'm being sooo honest I did not care for Candy. I liked her at first because she dragged that one hoe lmao after that I really wasn't feeling the way she was moving. When she was with Diego and Jackson at the same time was so weird because one cheated and the other is putting your dreams first. What is there to be confused about???

I was excited for Sasha because she was having a single dad moment. I really loved Devon and his daughter Zion. Sasha and Hunt had me in the beginning not gonna lie. Cannot be fooled by these "perfect" couples. The skeletons here went crazy kind of obvious and not.

I'm in a weird place with this book because this was the first time I read hate. I wasn't feeling any of the girls but I had to know how it would finish. If you like messy this is the one for you.

2.75🌟

This book was engaging and kept me entertained from start to end. If you like messy books, this is definitely very messy. I enjoyed the girls' friendship with each other for the most part and wished we had seen more of their friend group interactions. I'm not sure how I feel about this as a romance, though. I felt like a lot of time was spent on the toxic ex relationships to the detriment of the new relationships the ladies were getting into. I wish we had gotten more romancing of the thress ladies by their individual men versus the crazy situations that they all ended up in.

In all honesty, I wasn't fond of all the new relationships either. The only dude I was completely here for was DeVaughn. Their was a situation that happened to Candace's dude that just rubbed me the wrong way. Both Candace and Diego disregarded the boundary she had set for herself, and then later on in the story, a consequence related to his actions justagically dissappears. I also was not a fan of the way both Trenton and Diego spoke to their ladies. In the end, the drama and foolish continued throughout the entirety of the book, and I would have preferred if the characters had made it to a place of peace and happiness in their new loves before the end of the book. P.S. none of these ladies were mentally or emotionally ready to be in a new relationship.

This is my first time reading a novel by Danielle Marcus and it won’t be my last. This novel is about 3 friends that are like sisters and their up and downs with love. Dallas was married for 15 years, with 2 kids and is navigating how to move on. She meets Trenton who has also been through a lot serving in the army and somehow he finds a way to start breaking Dallas’ walls down.
Sasha is the engaged/ stay at home fiancé, although she owns a boutique she finds herself at home a lot. Sasha’s desire to have a baby propel her into a depression when she is not seeing results. A new and unexpected neighbor Devavyn comes into her life and she starts to forge a friendship with him that she lacks with her fiancée Hunter.
Candace is the epitome of a go-getter and is determined to make her dreams of a dance studio a reality. She ends up connecting with Diego- Sasha’s brother. Their connection grows stronger and she is forced to make some though decision.
I absolutely loved reading this book and finished it in a day. The MMCs and FMCs had so many layers and the sisterhood between the three ladies was refreshing to read. I loved how when it was time for the ladies to fully move on from their past relationships, they did.

3 girlfriends were the main characters: Candice, Dallas, and Sasha.
All ladies had relationship drama and they leaned on each other for support and advice. This book chronicled their relationship woes and journey to happiness.

2.75 stars
Candice had a man who wasn’t faithful but he took care of things financially so Candice had to decide if the financial security was worth the lack of true partnership she desired.

Dallas was with Messiah for 15 years and he cheated and got engaged to his mistress. Dallas couldn’t let him go after all the time she invested and plus they have a child together.

Sasha and Hunter had been trying desperately to have a child with her man Jackson but their inferiority issues was taking a toll on their relationship.

I didn’t connect with their experiences and never got drawn in. It did feel like it would make an interesting show because it was full of drama. Ultimately, I was satisfied that all the secrets and lies were revealed and the women decided on what they needed to be happy.

What will you do when fifteen years of your life go down the drain and you have nothing to do about it? What will you do when your family can no longer stay the same way? What will you do when the lies become too much?

In this story, we follow the lives of three women, Dallas, Candace, and Sasha, and their men's problems, so to speak😂. And truly, men will stain your clothes when you let them, and if you think you've seen enough of men's lies, read this book. It's mind-blowing what men will do to wreck a good thing.

Dallas gave him fifteen years of her life, gave him two kids, and he still chose to cheat and marry a younger woman. Dallas did all she could to bring her man back home, but her man decided on staying OUT!  Candace and Sasha had similar problems as well, but I felt really hurt for what Hunter did to Sasha. After reading what he did, I paused, replayed what I read in my head, and I lashed out to the nearest person next to me. It's that crazy 🤯😑.

All in all, love is such a force, and we won't be truly grateful for the good things we have until we have gone through worse.

I enjoyed the storyline; it felt as though the characters were right in front of me, chatting with me about what had happened. Also, I heard it has a movie adaptation 😍😉

This story follows the romantic lives of three main FMCs as they pursue various careers and aspirations.

Dallas was married to Messiah for 15 years and they have two children. Messiah cheated and is with another woman whom he claims he will marry, but in the meantime, he has an on-again, off-again sexual relationship with Dallas where they periodically hook up and he swears he still loves her. Obviously, his word can’t be trusted. Messiah Jr. wants his parents to get back together, of course, and resents anyone or anything that gets in the way of that. The anyone turns out to be Trenton, who has some mental health issues after doing time overseas in the war. He is loyal, however, loves and respects Dallas and wants to take care of her and her children in every way.

Sasha wants to have a baby but her partner Hunter is resistant though we don’t find out what his real motives are until later in the book when some secrets about his past are revealed. Needless to say, when handsome father Devon moves in next door, Sasha gives him second and third glances.

Candace is a dance instructor and wants to open her own dance studio. Her friends-with-benefits Jackson thinks he’s all that because he gives good D. Diego, Sasha’s younger brother, however, has had a crush on Candace since they were kids and it has never waned. He wants Candace to be his woman and makes it no secret. He has a criminal past on the streets that he has left behind, for the most part, and has the means and desire to help Candace meet her career goals.

This was a fun read. It has just the right amount of drama, messy ratchedness and spice to keep the reader entertained and the characters are interesting and multi-dimensional.

If you enjoy stories like Waiting to Exhale, then you’ll probably like this book too.
