Tara Mills Mystery #5

One Last Goodbye

Rate this book
In the series finale, a couple goes missing in a seemingly safe lake community and all that’s left behind is a posed photo of them taken on the night they disappeared. At first, police try to unravel who had seen them last and ultimately who took the picture. But when another couple disappears a few days later, with a similar photo left behind, they soon realize something much more sinister is at play. Someone within the close-knit community is not who they seem.

FBI Agent Tara Mills is quickly called in. As she tries to unravel the events leading up to each disappearance, she uncovers that everyone within this seemingly perfect town has their secrets. Tara suspects that whoever is responsible is someone everyone trusts and is lurking right under their noses. She must trust her instincts now more than ever. And with Warren still in the hospital, and Tara assigned a new partner, she fears that she’s no match for this killer without him.

Meanwhile, Tara’s wedding day is right around the corner and so is her meeting with her half-brother who holds another secret to her past. Tara is eager to meet him in the hopes that it will help her close the door to her past for good. But as she soon learns that she faces her most difficult case yet, and as she begins to question her half-brother’s intentions, she fears that everything will come crashing down, right before her wedding.

Story was ok - a few twists and turns to keep you guessing.
Unfortunately like all the books in this series, they could do with someone to just give them another proofread. There are some pretty obviously incorrect words in places - one that stood out was something about typing on a keyword instead of a keyboard!

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story begins with Tara worried about Warren, her FNI partner who was shot by her father at Tara's engagement party. Warren was paralyzed from the waist down but was undergoing a treatment which might help him. At the same time she was also thinking about Clayton, a half-brother, who wanted to get in touch with her. Tara after learning Warren was back home went to see him. Tara had not a case for awhile. She soon receives a call to come to the station for a new case and to meet her new partner.

When she gets to the office, she meets Marabelle, her new partner, and is given a missing persons case in upper NY state that may be associated with a serial killer. Upon arriving, she visits the scene of the two couples that were missing and where blood had been discovered. The location is a tight knit community and there are not a lot of clues. The two of them then begin questioning friends of the missing couples to try and get answers. It was discovered that the community had many clubs and eventually a person finally relayed information that pointed them in the right direction.

To learn who was responsible, what clue Tara and her partner received, what Jennifer had to do with it and how it all ended, then you need to read this book. The conclusion is a fitting ending for the series.

This is a joint review for the entire series. I read all the 5 books back to back and they all were good and thrilling! Giving them 3.5 stars overall.

My main grouse in most of these books, especially the last one, is, as a reader I never got a chance to understand why exactly the killer murdered so many people. I mean what was their motive? What did they want to gain? A dying confession from the killer would've been nice.

Particularly in this book, the killer turns into a complete psycho, who goes after his own daughter because she knew his secret. What was his back story? Why did he turn from a family man to a serial killer all of a sudden? Just saying that he was a control freak didn't cut it for me.

Also, some loose ends were not tied together in the last book like I was expecting. Tara's dad so badly wanted his other daughter to be absolved of murder charges. Why?? How did the half brother pop out of the woodwork in just the last book and not before?? Didn't make sense.

I loved the previous Tara Mills books but this one fell flat for me. It was a quick read but not necessarily in a good way. It felt like there wasn’t enough tension or development of the characters, the murders, the town…etc. The killer was revealed pretty early and the ending was very rushed and heavily summarized rather than being fleshed out. I’m still interested in reading more from this author, this one just didn’t work.

This was terrible and poorly written … at one point while one character was talking about another character he used his own name … and there are only so many times the description “knitted his brows” can be used in the span of a chapter can be used without sounding grossly repetitive… reading to the end was painful
This writers team clearly did not proofread before publishing and it shows. I’ll never read her books again

Outstanding!

The final book in the Tara Mills mystery series. I couldn’t wait to read this book to see how it all ends but now that I’ve read it, I’m saddened that it has ended. From the first book to the last book, it keeps you on edge, many unique stories, great plots and you won’t want to put it down. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

Perfect wrapping for an amazing series. Loved to see how everything tied together in Tara's story as she made peace with her past to build a future in a professional and personal level. The revelations of this last book were mind blowing and I could not put the book down
