This was my first Olyott book and I look forward to more. This book was required for Dr. Sam Waldron’s Exposition of Romans Course at CBTS.
The book is a concise, 200 page (casual) commentary on Paul’s epistle to the Romans. What I found excellent about the book was how Olyott was able to clearly, pastorally, and vividly outline the contours of Paul’s logic and systematic thinking in Romans, particularly in Romans chapter 1-11. He persuasively argues for debated points such as Paul’s writing of Romans 7 as a Christian and for the interpretation of the church as the true Israel of God in Romans 9-11.
The book was a great example of an author who is clearly worshipping God as he writes—enjoying the emeralds, sapphires, and rubies of His Word. Olyott then himself holds these jewels out for us to adore with him.
