Win the trials, earn a crown—or fail and lose everything.
The heir of Embermere has unexpectedly died, and now a new prince and princess must be crowned.
I’ve been hiding out with the dragons, but then mysterious fae show up at the dragons’ stronghold and abduct me at the king’s command.
The royals of Embermere are hosting the Fae Heir Trials to find their successors. The winners will marry and become the next to rule the fae lands. Turns out I’m the king’s illegitimate daughter and the wicked queen intends to kill me off during the challenges.
I find myself thrust into a barbaric tournament where death is all but guaranteed. I’m competing against the most gorgeous, deadly fae warriors of the realm. Determined, agile men who’ve been training to claim this chance all their lives—including clan leader Rush Vega.
Rush Vega is the Crown’s favorite, devastatingly charming and dangerously tempting. His combat skills and dark secrets will be my undoing. With my survival on the line, my heart must resist his pull and those intriguing moonlight eyes. He’s the queen’s spy, and that makes him my number one enemy.
My life might have become a game of savage brutality, but the Queen of Embermere underestimated me.
I was born a fighter. And I intend to win.
* This novelis slow-burn fantasy romance with lots of adventurous action, along with some graphic violence and sexual scenarios. Fae Heir is the first book in the Royals of Embermere series. Its books are best read in order as the storyline continues until the final book in the series, which will conclude with a happily-ever-after.

63% in and I'm still waiting to care about anyone or anything happening. Zero attachment to the characters, not feeling any chemistry, and mostly just annoyed at the childish, unrealistic dialog.
The FMC just isn't likeable or relatable for me. She's arrogant, impulsive, naïve, juvenile, and bordering on TSTL. Is being a cluelessly obnoxious mouthpiece supposed to demonstrate strength? Yeesh
On top of that, we have to stomach a poor man's incarnation of the White Rabbit/Red Queen who runs around squawking Off With Their Head and stressing about being late like... every other page?
And all of this exists in a world where the antagonist's magic is essentially limitless, so the author's ability to create or resolve conflict doesn't have to adhere to any rules or structure. Honestly, I can't think of anything more boring.
imagine every single one of feyre and rhysand's smutty telepathic conversations rolled into one and dumped head first into an na fantasy novel. that's what this feels like.
mortifyingly this book felt like it was more about the romance and (cough cough horniness) than the actual plot and fighting... and while that may be for spice lovers, i (un)fortunately am not one of them. this was tagged as high fantasy but just,,, fell short(?) it would've been better fit to ya because it was a bit juvenile. FAR too much descriptions of dicks in this book i will literally throw myself out a window if rush's 'bulge' or 'sensuous lips' are mentioned one more time in excruciating detail please sponsor me some eye bleach
1.5 stars- a short, engaging read, but entirely TOO horny and pitiful little worldbuilding or action. (or maybe i’m just a miserable cockblock. one will never know 🤗)
Blame it on post Fourth Wing hangover but I just wasn’t connecting with this as much as I like. It’s got pretty good world building and plot but I’m missing a certain spark. Will I read the sequel? Absolutely. I still wanna see how things play out after that ending.

This was a solid romantasy! I think my reviews might be a little more generous on kindle unlimited books when they are fun to read and easy to get into - like this one!
The book has a slow start, but once I was in the story I quickly became invested and wanted to know more. So, it's not really a surprise to me that I finished this relatively long book with more than 400 pages in record time! I saw some reviews of people complaining about the repetitiveness of some things, but honestly I found them more entertaining and also kind of endearing, so it wasn't really an issue to me.
I liked the two main characters and I also liked the side characters in this one, I do think, however, that Fae Heir also needed to build a lot of back story, as well as the world, magic and the... let's say "problem" our main character is facing. The book ended on a big cliffhanger and I also saw that book 2 starts right where book 1 left us, so this definitely screams for a binge read for me and I am definitely looking forward to continuing the series. I feel like Lucia Ashta still has a lot of things up her sleeve and I am curious as to what will happen next!
Personally, I would definitely recommend this book and I'd say, despite the high fantasy setting Fae Heir is one of the lighter fantasy books out there, because despite the world building it is easy to get into, it has the right amount of teasing, a little bit of humour, conflict and court intruige and a good portion of suspense, because you just want to know what'll happen next. 🥰
Fae Heir by Lucia Ashta is book one The Royals of Embermere Series and is an action packed adventure filled with magic and fae.
I loved reading every page of this book - there literally was not one boring chapter. The world the author has created is unique and the story is so intriguing it was almost impossible to put down.
The main character Elowyn is a beautifully written character that I just instantly loved. She is the perfect example of what a fierce female in a fantasy book should be - she’s strong, isn’t easily fooled by the glamour of things, loyal to the people that matter to her, and stands up for what is right.
Fae Heir was definitively one of my favorite reads of June it had everything in it I love in a fantasy book - including a tattooed fae warrior and mystery. This book is perfect for anyone wanting to sit down and binge read a cozy romantasy with humor and instantly lovable characters that’ll keep you turning the pages. Book two is already on my ‘to be read’ list and I cannot wait for the adventure to continue . . . especially after that ending!
Started a little slow but once Rush got involved it was pretty good. The ending was quite the cliffhanger and really leaves you reaching for the next book. Luckily, based on the snippet of the next book, it begins literally right where this one ends.
My one quibble is Rush saying they couldn't have sex because "you're first time should be for love". Insert rolling eyes here. This is NA, and smut is expected, not preaching. A little to Twilight-y here.
After she's taken against her will from the home she has always known, Elowyn is thrown into a fae court world of lies, secrets and manipulation. It's revealed that she is the illegitimate child of the King (a king who in reality holds no actual power in the Mirror World). We follow the FMC as the merciless and hateful Queen forces her to live a double life at court, and is expected to fight in the tournament deciding the next heir of the kingdom.
Unable to trust anyone, Elowyn fights her growing interest and feelings towards the guard appointed to her, who also happens to be a spy for the Queen.
This was a LOT better than I imagined when I first started. The dialogue between the characters was cringe at times, but I quickly got accustomed to it and couldn't help but root for Elowyn as she became a very likeable character. Not scared to speak her mind even if it meant she could literally lose her head , one couldn't help but love her. She's fierce, strong, funny and determined.
I'm intrigued to learn how her story will unfold in the next series!
interesting story with plenty of action and humor!
The FMC is a hoot and it’s what makes this book worth reading. It is not the best I have read when it comes to fantasy books, but good enough to be entertaining. My biggest issue is the lack of character development, which would have made a world of difference.
I had the absolute best time reading this book. If you like fae fantasy romance with a fiery, fiesty, badass FMC and a swoon worthy MMC, then this is a must read... and did I mention there's dragons? Say no more!
This book was incredibly entertaining, had me laughing out loud and rooting for our FMC who can't hold her tongue for anything. She says what she wants and she's unapologetic about it. Elowyn gets kidnapped to a court I can only equate to a mix between Alice in Wonderland and the Capital in The Hunger Games... absolutely brutal but also so incredibly entertaining 🤭
I love the world the author created and I can't wait to keep learning more about it in the second book as we are still left with so many questions at the end of book 1.
I'm so excited for Fae Champion to be released. I'm itching to know what will happen next and I'm also so excited for Elowyn's and Rush's romance to develop, it's a slow burn but it'll be so worth it!
I definitely enjoyed the storyline with the fast-paced action and high-stakes trial setting. I enjoyed the sassy, brash, and zero-filter attitude Elowyn has (although it became repetitive at times). There's a bit of hidden identity with trying to find out who her mother is and the connection she has to the Mirror World. Rush is definitely growing on me, being the compassionate yet sneaky spy he is. I'm really hoping to learn more about him and his background. Great start to a series!
What a tyrant the queen is! Tyrants always use loved ones and blackmail as leverage in books and in life.
I felt bad for Elowyn because she can't trust anyone because their loyalty lies with the queen who holds something over everyone. El likes Rush but he's loyal to he queen. I don't trust him at all.
I do love how Elowyn thinks in her head. It's sarcastic and funny. It's what I liked most about this book. We'll see if that continues.
Admittedly it starts a little slow, but soon after the story catches your attention and it’s just enticing. The heroine of the story turns into a badass and basically teaches not to judge by its cover. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the second book to come out. Also, I will get it when it comes out on audio.
The fourth book isn’t out yet, but so far I love to hate the antagonist. The characters were well developed, with the protagonist being sparky and defiant. The slow burn romance follows basically all the rules of the genre and is pretty predictable, but is well written and enjoyable nonetheless. The details of court politics is an enjoyable exasperation filled with characters you once again love to hate. What I enjoy most is not knowing how the series will end! Some books you can see the ending from a mile away, but this one? It’s full of twists and turns and I’m relishing the ride.
this book was good. I wasnt super attached to many of the characters, and it starts slowly but there is a bad ass FMC - we love to see that. Patiently waiting for book 2.
I don’t know how to rate this book. The main character is SO annoying. She seriously lacks self-preservation and seems to think that constantly voicing her opinion (that no one cares about) at the wrong time needs to happen because „that‘s the only way she will learn“. On one hand she’s supposedly a great fighter on the other hand everyone else is doing the fighting for her (or against her when she’s trying to be brave(?)). The world building is confusing, the story is confusing and everything is very repetitive. Idk how many times she said that she „can’t think about him like that right now“ only to do it and then start the process over and over again. At the same time I finished the book and even started the second one because the plot is actually pretty good. Give the plot idea to a different author and it would probably be an amazing book. I guess I kept reading cause I hoped that the MC would learn and grow (she didn’t), that we get to understand more of the world and who she is (we don’t really) and that the story progresses to the good part whatever that may be (but it doesn’t). I mean I’m halfway through the second book and still feel like I know nothing. Sadly I cannot recommend this book.
Very slow and quite confusing and drawn out IMO. However, I did read the rest of the books and I love how they play out and all the twists and turns to keep it going. The characters are interesting enough and the plot is quite enjoyable once you get over the semi-repetitiveness. FMC's choices are questionable at best. Kept me engaged regardless.
Everything about this book had me eager to read it. We have dragons, a royal court, a mirror world and four competitions known as the Fae Heir Trials. What more do you need! The story is captivating and the worldbuilding is brilliant. I loved Elowyn from the start, she doesn't back down - not even when the queen had her kidnapped and forced to participate in the Fae Trials. Rush Vega is Elowyn's guard - their moments together guarantee the reader ample amounts of smiling, gushing and getting frustrated. The king and queen of Embermere are different to your typical royalty - this queen lives in no one's shadow.
The ending had me literally gasping! This is probably the best cliffhanger because it doesn't leave the reader in agony, it leaves the reader craving more! I am eager to pick up the next book and get lost in the world of Embermere. This romantasy is exactly what I needed! There is danger, excitement, magic, dragons, and romance. I have a feeling the 'Royals of Embermere" series is going to be my next obsession. I can't recommend this book enough. Add it to your TBR!
Many thanks to MTMC Tours and the author for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lazy writing..Alice in Wonderland rip-off…too much overkill on the blackmail..already have her spelled..my guess is she is a twin and the king sent her away when she was born and some how the queen did not know she birth twins…El looks just like the queen but with her fathers grey eyes..don’t know how that is not obvious, and with king who is scared of the queen, popped out and had an affair? Yeah right. And the constant off with your head on repeat…El herself was TSTL from the get. Rush is a puppet you can see the queens hand up his butt..then she has 2 super powerful henchmen..so with a queen with unlimited powers and her 2 powerful henchmen, how can El possibly overcome this and win..King is useless. Author wrote the queen too powerful and too evil, to make this story work.
AHH AMAZING!! I felt like I was part of the story, I couldn't put it down! I just kept reading it. Make sure u read it and continue reading with the whole series, Lucia never disappoints with her writing!
"I clutched my cutting knife and forced myself to dice more potatoes." Cutting knife eh? As opposed to?
This book was okay. The writing isn't awesome but isn't awful either.
"Even the discrete buttons and rich fabric..." Are there buttons that aren't discrete? Like a button zipper?
There are quite a few instances of things that just read wrong.
A lot of the dialogue is anachronistic. Not that there is a defined time, but if you don't have cars or flush toilets, you should probably also not say shit like "bro."
The MC seems to randomly change her dialogue and starts talking like a drunken sailor or ye olde timey prole farmer or something. "Holy dragonfire, Pru! Ya ever hear o' personal space?" It's just weird.
These complaints persist throughout the series. I've read 3 of the books now, and they all have the same issues.
El is also dumb. She says and does dumb shit that should cost her her life, but somehow this doesn't happen, over and over and over. She knows that she isn't going to be the one to be punished, and yet..
I also find it weird when books talk about cocks and slicks and folds and cores and then fade to black for any actual sex scenes.
Anyways, I ended up reading the next two so it clearly wasn't that shite.
DNF10% I may try this one again later, but for right now I'm finding the MCs speech and inner monologue so annoying.
She's seems to think very highly of herself and her fighting abilities, but hasn't actually been able to achieve anything except getting her ass kicked and kidnapped. I hate books where the MCs wind up in hands tied kind of situations cause I end up feeling this impotent rage that I don't know what to do with, and I could feel that just building and building here. Her getting herself into trouble and having to just take the beating with no options was beyond frustrating and put me right off finishing the rest of the book.
