Good book for 'policy making' or 'think tank'aspirants. Lot of examples with detailed comparison between India and other countries.After some initial pages one may feel that book is written by some leftist. Good book in order to spread your general knowledge area.

प्रस्तुत पुस्तकाचे लेखक संदीप वासलेकर यांची जागतिक स्तरावर कार्य करणारा एक विचारवंत म्हणून ख्याती आहे. जगातील पन्नास देशांचे राष्ट्रप्रमुख, पंतप्रधान, सरकारी अधिकारी यांच्याशी सल्लामसलत करताना आलेल्या अनुभवांतून भारतीय युवकाला एक नवी दिशा दाखवण्याचा त्यांनी प्रयत्न केला आहे.

प्रचंड लोकसंख्येचा जनसमुदाय अहोरात्र मेहनत करत असूनही आपण विकसित राष्ट्रांच्या पंक्तीत का नाही? नेमकी अशी कोणती कारणे आहेत ज्यामुळे आपल्या देशाचा विकास होण्यास अडसर निर्माण होत आहे? कित्येक वर्षें मागासलेले देश आज झपाट्याने प्रगती करत आहेत. हे त्यांना शक्य होत असेल तर आपल्याला का नाही? अशा बऱ्याच प्रश्नांची उत्तरे विविध उदाहरणांच्या माध्यमातून आपल्याला या पुस्तकात वाचायला मिळतात.

यासाठी लेखकांनी बऱ्याच देशांतील नेते-अधिकारी यांचं केलेलं निरीक्षण या पुस्तकात नोंदवलं आहे. जसं कि स्वित्झर्लंडचे राष्ट्रपती रेल्वेच्या दुसऱ्या वर्गाच्या साधारण डब्ब्यातून प्रवास करतात. नॉर्वेचे मंत्री सायकल वरून त्यांच्या कचेरीत जात असत. मग आपल्या नेत्यांना वा अधिकाऱ्यांना लोकाभिमुख धोरणे करण्यासाठी आपण कसे भाग पाडू शकतो? अशी काही उदाहरणे दिली आहेत. हे पुस्तक वाचताना, आपल्या युवकांना जगभरातील आगामी बदलांची किंचितही चाहूल नसल्याची खंत वाटल्याखेरीज राहत नाही.

पाश्चिमात्यांचे अनुकरण करण्याची 'आंधळी कोशिंबीर' का थांबली पाहिजे? आपल्या देशातील सर्वात दुर्बळ घटक प्रबळ करताना त्यात आपली जबाबदारी काय असेल? रोजगार निर्मितीसाठी आपल्या शिक्षणपद्धतीत कोणते आवश्यक बदल गरजेचे आहेत? भविष्यातील नवनिर्मितीची संधी आणि धोके यांच्या आव्हानांबद्दलसुद्धा या पुस्तकात चर्चा केलेली आहे. गरिबी, कुपोषण, पाणीटंचाई, अनोरोग्य, बेकारी ते 'माणुसकीच्या शत्रूसंगे' सुरू असलेले युद्ध असो किंवा 'हिमालयाला आलेला ताप असो'. बुद्धीला चालना देणारा आणि विचार करायला लावणारा लेखकांचा प्रपंच वाचकाला निश्चित आवडण्याजोगा आहे.

अशा आव्हानांना सामोरे जाण्यासाठी एक दिशा देण्याचं काम हे पुस्तक नक्कीच करत आहे. इतकेच नव्हे तर अलीकडच्या काळात आपल्या वसुधेला आलेलं कुटुंबाचे स्वरूप या विषयावरील सखोल मुद्देही आपल्याला वाचावयास मिळतात. हे पुस्तक वाचून, हा सर्व खटाटोप कशासाठी? एकट्याने काय होणार आहे? या ऐवजी 'केल्याने होत आहे रे आधी केलेचि पाहिजे' या ओळीची प्रकर्षाने जाणीव होते.

प्रत्येक युवकाने जर नियती व निश्चय यांची सांगड घालण्यास सुरुवात केली तर लवकरच एका सुखी, समृद्ध आणि महान देशाची निर्मिती होईल असा आशावाद लेखक यातून व्यक्त करतात. भारतातील सामान्य माणसाचा जीवनस्तर उंचावण्यासाठी आणि भारतीय युवकाला उत्तम ध्येयदर्शन देण्यासाठी 'एका दिशेचा शोध' हे पुस्तक अतिशय मार्गदर्शक ठरत आहे.

I did not like this much. He has just written about all the problems that India is facing right now and analysed its causes. Compared them with other countries and how it is different (better/worse) there. But no real concrete suggestions for improvement or betterment of the country as such. I was looking for that.

This book gives us insight into various problems the world is facing and how they should be dealt with. It makes you think about these problems seriously which we otherwise choose to ignore. It makes us aware about various situations prevailing in different countries. Its a good read if you are ready to spend some time understanding the problems our country and the world is facing.

An excellent book by an excellent author. For those who are not much familiar with the international politics and financial currents pulling the nations forward, this is a very good book to start. He suggests some very fundamental approaches for raising overall socio-economical condition for India which are very thought-provoking. A very well read.
