Dear John is a book that makes you jealous for sure. Every girl dreams of a perfect boyfriend or just a relationship like the movies. This book is one of those typical relationships except there is a twist. It shows what a real life relationship may look like. In Dear John, the main character John falls in love with a girl names Savannah. However, John, working in the army, has to leave Savannah and back to his job in a couple of weeks. They build up their relationship in that short amount of time, as much as a couple that has been dating for years. While he's in the army, Savannah and John send handwritten letters to each other to remind them how much they still love each other. During this process, many hardships come by such as John's father becoming sick, 9.11, and a bit too long of a separation between Savannah and John. As you go on with the story, you will be able to see how everything turns out; who ends up with who and what. This book is recommended for teenage girls who likes romance books. It will be very different from any other romance book they have read because of the realistic twist in the plot; how every couple does not get the perfect opportunity to love.
At first I was very disappointed how the book only focused on one scene and I was scared it would be a short ending. As I got to read more I started to compare it with the movie and found that the movie focuses more on John's relationship with Savannah and not much with his dad. I saw the relationship with his father grow stronger in the book. Many might say that the ending of the book is disappointing because it's not what people want to read and hear. The movie is so Hollywood and of course they end up together but the book really showed me reality and that you don't always end up with the person you truly love. It's a good lesson in life and the ending is still a tear jerker! I recommend this book to anyone who loves love story but ones that don't have Hollywood aspects to it but just reality! I also say READ THE BOOK FIRST.. Watching movie before makes it harder to really focus on the true story in the book...
I found it a beautiful love story, that is not mushy but realistic. It was predictable, but it didn't matter because you want to experience everything. I found it had many realistic relationship situations, specially with over-seas soldiers. I think that it is truly sad, but it does happen. Everything that happens to the John I want to cry and go kick some peoples butts. Very emotional book, be ready, but beautiful.
Dear JohnNicholas Sparks This Book Was Really Good. I Really Enjoy Nicholas Sparks' Work. He Really Knows How To Pull His Readers In. I Absolutely Love The Movie, Which Is To Say, Better Than The Book. The Movie Had Me More Interested Than The Book. I Do Recommend This Book To Many People Though, It Is Really Good.
Loved this book. I read the entire book in one sitting and then immediately went out to rent the movie. The book was so much better. The movie did not do it justice. Thank goodness for Channing Tatum's hot body though! ;)
Closing the book finally with a heavy heart. Knowing that John did the right thing, it still seems so wrong. But to every John and Savanna out there, I hope they get to be together.
Dear John Dear John for Nicholas Sparks is really a nice book worth reading it. I recommend you to read this book because it is full of romance and is a one of the bestselling novels “Nicholas Sparks” has written. It is really nice novel talking about love, toughness, U.S army, and psychological disorder of autism, coins collection and long distance relationship. I liked this book and I got benefits from it because; it opens my eyes and tells me that not all people have the habit of being patient and no one stays for the other even the lovers. So don’t trust everyone too much. But what I didn’t like about this book is the ending, it was unpredictable and it was not exciting for me. I thought of something and something else happened. I think this book could work for different times, because it has been written long time ago but I can see that it can work for our time because, some men are keeping their woman waiting for them to finish their duties for the country then they marry them or even if they are married their wife’s will still wait for their husband to come and help them in raising their children. And it could work for future and maybe not, because life change and people change and nobody waits for the other this long time. The main character in this novel is John Tyree, who likes to work hard and be an independent person. The second character is Savannah she is a girl with a blond hair, she has a nice smile, with a good look. She studies in collage, and she like to help others. The third character is Tim he was Savannah’s best friend since childhood. The forth character is Mr Bill Tyree “John’s father”, who has autism psychological disorder. And the last one is Alan Tim’s son who had autism also. This novel is talking about a love story, long distance relation ship and call of duty for the country. It started when John picked up a coin, one day when he was a child. Then it talked about John relation ship with his dad. And how he had difficulties in finding a balance between himself and his father, because they both have different personalities. After that it mentioned how john fall in love with Savannah, and how they were connected with each other through letters. It also talked about the event of September 11, which happened in US, when John decided to be a hero for the Army. Savannah understudied his motivation of heroism but she was upset and hurt sadly. What is going to happen next??? I will keep for you the ending of the story to discover it through reading the book. Enjoy..
I read Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. Dear John was a captivating about two people falling in love at the right place, but wrong time. John Tyree, the protagonist, falls in love with a girl, Savannah, that he meets on his second leave in the army. After just one day together, they slowly start falling for each-other. Soon enough, they time together comes to an end, as John has to go back to the army. Savannah and him write nearly every day, as they don’t want to miss a moment in each other's live. Later on John goes on his third leave and spends majority of it making up lost time with Savannah. They then, go and visit John’s dad and spend time with him. John and his father once had a very strong relationship which revolved around coins, until one day, when his dad brought them up John had enough about them, and snapped at him. Savannah and John’s father essentially had a stronger relationship than him and John. Then, John returns to his place in the army in the infantry division. As time goes on, John’s next leave approaches sooner and sooner. However, just months before John can return home, disaster happens. 911. All units and divisions must work on this horrific event and fight for their country. Gradually, John and Savannah's letters lessen. Until, one day, Savannah writes to John that their relationship must disband, as she has fallen for someone else. A broken-hearted John, spends the rest of his leave with his father, and tries to bond with him. Without Savannah, John focuses his leisure on his dad, and attempts to spark the relationship they once had. John Tyree is twenty to twenty-five years old throughout the entire book. He is strong willed, army grunt, who although he doesn't portray it much, is smarter then said. From both working in the army and surfing, he is quite muscular, but not heavy. This beguiling novel, takes place on the army grounds in Germany and in Iraq. Although when John is home, it take place in Wilmington, North Carolina. Dear John also takes place between 1999 and 2006. Overall, I would recommend Dear John to anyone who wants to enjoy a gratifying novel about true love, heartbreak, and sacrifice. Nicholas Sparks explains how true love comes from sacrifice and loyalty. Sparks uses both great detail and prior knowledge to capture your emotions through the text.
Dear John, written by Jamie Linden, tells a bittersweet story of love, sacrifice, and the complexities of relationships. While the narrative unfolds at a slower pace, the emotional depth and thought-provoking themes make it a worthwhile read.
The novel follows the journey of John Tyree, a soldier who falls in love with Savannah Curtis during a brief encounter. Their connection blossoms through heartfelt letters as they navigate the challenges of a long-distance relationship. However, as circumstances change and their lives take different paths, their love is put to the test, forcing them to make difficult choices.
Jamie Linden's writing style allows readers to delve into the characters' emotions, bringing authenticity to their experiences. The character development is particularly notable, as readers witness John's growth, his internal conflicts, and his struggle to reconcile his duty with his desires. Savannah, too, is a well-rounded character, with her own dreams and aspirations that are put to the test as their relationship faces challenges.
While the pacing may be slow at times, it allows for a deeper exploration of the characters' inner worlds and the complex dynamics of their relationships. The slower moments provide an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made for love and the consequences that follow.
The themes of love, duty, and the impact of war on personal lives are poignant and thought-provoking. Dear John raises important questions about the sacrifices individuals make for their loved ones and the difficult choices they face when confronted with conflicting responsibilities. It invites readers to reflect on the complexities of human relationships and the often unpredictable nature of life.
Although the slower pace may not suit all readers' preferences, the emotional resonance and the exploration of profound themes make Dear John a compelling read. The novel showcases Jamie Linden's ability to capture the intricacies of love and sacrifice, creating an impactful story that lingers in the hearts of readers.
In conclusion, Dear John is a poignant tale that beautifully examines the intricacies of love, duty, and sacrifice. While the slower pacing may require patience, the emotional depth and thought-provoking themes make this novel a worthwhile exploration of the complexities of human relationships.
Note: Dear John was also adapted into a movie, and while the film captures the essence of the story, the book offers a deeper exploration of the characters' internal struggles and the emotional nuances of their journey.
I just finished reading the book Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks. The main problem in this book is having a relationship split by war. The setting in this book shows the difference between war life and every day life. The main charachter is John and his homestate is North Carolina, but he is often on the batte field preforming his army duties. Savanah is the girl john falls madly in love with, and she falls in love with him in return. Tim is Savanah's best friend, who John becomes friends with.
John is a boy who had enlisted for the army. when home on leave he meets savanah, who is visiting North Carolina for mission work. They quickly fall in love with one another.John has to leave again to weeks later to fufil his duties in the army, and savanah agrees to wait for him to return and then they will mary. They write love letters back and forth while John is serving. Slowly they drift apart from one another, after 9-11 occurs, and john reenlists, feeling the need to serve his country. Eventualy Savanah sends a letter stating is she is in love with someone else, and ending there long distant relationship. John's heart is crushed. His father, who had been diagnosed with asbergers, died not long after. John is very depressed with the recent events occuring in his life. He goes to visit Savanah and finds she is married to his dear friend, Tim. John rreturns to the army life he lived previously, and never speaks with savanah again.
I liked this book because it shows Raw emotions and isnt the happy ending every one expects.
A repeating theme is that a relationship take many sacrifices, from both sides.
I would recomend this book to teenagers and young adults who could understand the wmotions portrayed, more personally.
Something unique about this book is that the main character's father has asbergers, and shows things involved with the disorder.
I can honestly say i thouroughly enjoyed this book.
Dear John, is and amazing story about two young people falling in love. It starts off your typical love story, but then it goes bad. Savanah leaves John because he is always gone due to dutys in the military. She falls inlove while he is deployed and gets married. John is heart broken, and the eneding was so sad. I didnt really like the end, but what he dose to help Savanh after she already broke his heart is amazing.
I would recomend this book to any girls but it is sad, so I don't know how many people would actually like it. Everything leading up to the end is great They are mostly happy, and everything seems fine. But then they begin to realize it's not working, they are completly different and it's to hard to stay with one another. When they reconect you feel like there is hope for them, but it turns out her husband is in the hospital, dying of caner.
John resents Savanah for so long, and dosen't get how someone he loved so much, his first true love, could just leave him while he's over seas. His dad dies, and he comes back on leave to find Savanah living in a house with noone there, he wonders what is gong on, and he finds out everything about her husband. He knows she is stressed because she never drank when they were together and she was drinking now. It all came together and made sence to him and he knew he had to help her, the only way he knew he could.
End of the book review. I loved this book. It is one of my all time favorite books. It takes you on a emotional train ride of love and hate towards the couple and on the relationship. How they meet and he leaves her for 2 years and how they try there best to hold things together. Then he gets to come home but only for a short time, just to turn around and leave again. After a few years of this happening Savanna gets tired of him not being there and ends up falling in love with somewhere els. Now she has to face the facts of how to word that last letter to John about what has happened and how sorry she feels about what she has done. John gets the letter and feels strong hate towards her, and can't believe after so many years, and so close to them being able to stay home for good she messed it up. A couple months latter John arrives back home and just goes and lives with his dad. He finds out where savanna lives now and hears around town that her now husband has became very sick..... Well as you know how all love stories end everyone always gets there true love... So does Savanna AND John ;)
This is the first book i've read that is written by Nicholas Sparks, i saw the movie before so i decided that i wanted to read the book version of it, too.
This is book is about a couple who madly fall in love with each other. The main character, John have to leave to the army, and he met Savannah, the college student. Savannah and John's father relationship are really good, even though he has some kind of problem. But while John was in the army, Savannah fell in love with someone else and wrote a letter to John to tell him.
John returned to his home, and after his father death, He seeks out Savannah, found out that she got married, but this story showed how he's able to express his love in an unexpected way. Even thought the book ends up in a pretty sad way, but the author shows that though harsh and complex, love transforms us forever.
This is one case where I saw the movie first and then read the book. It is usually the other way around for me. I defidently prefer the book version rather than the movie version. I liked that the book had a better plot around some of the main characters than the movie did. I love Nicholas Sparks attention to detail and how he describes the places that the books are taking place at. He is a gifted writer who never disappoints.
Dear John (Lexile 850) by Nicholas Sparks is about a man named John who dropped out of high school and made the decision to enlist himself in the Army, but just as he meets the women of his dreams Savannah. But even though John is in love it didn’t stop him from joining the Army and leaving Savannah for long periods of time. But John’s father suffered from severe autism and when John was at war he was sent home because his father was suffering a stroke but was still alive but in rough conditions. After he visited his father and spent time with him he was back of to enrolling himself in 9/11 because he thought it was his duty. But this time he was no longer coming back to see Savannah because they split up threw the notes they continued to write back and forth when he was in war. But when John comes back he was trying to get used to Savannah remarried but the hard part was John didn’t feel right without Savannah in his life, and he wanted her back. Later on Savannah’s husband Tim had cancer and died, and Savannah and John ran into each other at the coffee shop and it all started again. John and Savannah never gave in and let up they always had hope and faith that they would come back to each other and that things would be fine. During Dear John many times John enrolled in wars and fighting so he left Savannah alone for long periods of time but, Savannah always knew and had hope that John would return home safe and sound. When John tried enlisting again his father had suffered a very severe stroke and John never lost hope and his father survived the stroke so John later returned to the Army but decided to enroll in 9/11. Savannah could no longer take the long distance and broke up with John through the letters they sent back and forth. Later when John returned from war he was always missing Savannah and wanted her back he always had that little hope that they would become close again. But tragedy stuck for Savannah and her husband now had cancer and was dying but her husband let John know he was okay with Savannah moving on to John again to continue making her happy. Later on he died and Savannah and John started to connect again starting with meeting at a coffee shop. Never giving up in hope for Savannah and John was a big theme in Dear John because they never gave up when John was gone with the Army, but when they did they still kept in little touch which gave John enough hope. And even with Savannahs dying husband had hope in John to make Savannah happy when he dies. Dear John was a amazing fit for me because I love romantic and things that involve the army because I feel a strong connection given I have many family members involved in the military. Dear John was a little complicated for me to get a feel for at first but after I finished it all came together and made a lot of sense. But overall it was a amazing book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is wanting a sit back and relaxing romantic book. Dear John serves a purpose and would be a good read for anyone who enjoys a book that often keeps you interested and on the edge of your chair.
I think there are few books in #romanticgenre that actually touches the heart, that makes us to believe in the power of true love and makes us to keep hope that we may find someone like the protagonist, just like, the one described in the book. And I think that Nicholas Spark has that power in his writing that we can connect to the book and to the life of the protagonists. This is my third book which I read of him and I loved all his works and this one though a bit different made me connect to the life of the protagonists. 📖 The story is of two different people who are totally contrast in their characters but as they say, opposites attract. John Tyree, a bit rebellious guy, who follows his own rules, who is bought up by his father and is a college drop out tries to find a job which can keep him occupied and make him different from his not-so-good-doing friends, joins army where he undergoes rough training and after that gets posted in Germany. On his first year leave, he returns home and spends his first day on the beach surfing and looking at the horizon. While gazing, he sees a girl with her friend but doesn't gives much interest. But as soon as some boys join them, one among them throws her bag and at that moment,he helps her by bringing the bag and return it to, Savannah Lynn Curtis, the same girl he tries to ignore first. Savannah is totally opposite to John's character and always sees good in other people. From there on begins a love story. John visits her often at the beach and comes to know that she has volunteered to help in building the house through HABITAT Group. As the days of his vacation comes to an end, both of them confess their love to each other and at the time of departure, Savannah gives him letter and makes him promise that he will write to her oftenly and from there on begins the another part of the story where we get to know about his army life and also his blankness when he only thinks about Savannah. On his second leave, he promises that he will be getting discharged at the end of the year and will be joining her soon. But fate had something else. On 9th of September, the Twin Towers were obliterated and from there on, the story takes a different turn. Will they be able to get back?or something else happens in the process when John strives hard to keep up his army duties... The writing is good as well as the narration and the way the author has described the father-son relationship,it's my favorite part. I recommend this book to all the romantic book lovers... Happy reading...
The story starts with the main character John at war shot and what his last thoughts were before he went on conscious. His last thoughts were about his love interest and we won’t find out till the end of the story which love he is talking about. The soldier, John, then is taken back before the accident and meets this young girl named Savanna and they fall in love before he gets drafted out for only a year then they could stay together forever. They kept in touch through letters. He was deployed when 9/11 happened and without telling Savanna, John went back into war with his troop and she stopped writing letters to him suddenly. She broke up with to marry another man. Many years later they lost touch and he found out the real reason she married this man was because he was dying of cancer. They never ended up together and his last thoughts before going on concussion weren’t about this girl he was in love with but about his dad. I give this book a five out of five stars by far. I love how unexpected the ending was because the book revolves mainly around John and his live interest Savanna. So for those super amazingly sweet words he was saying at the beginning of the book to be about his dad makes it a whole lot more of a tear jerker and way more heart warming to read. I also love how the author kind of tricked and misled us cause it seemed like a typical love story but it wasn’t. One thing the author did well in this book was include the part where John visits Savannah's husband at the cancer hospital and he tells John that Savannah would and will never love him like he did. It really made us wonder if Savannah and John would get together again where again the author misled us. Something I didn’t like that the author did was make John burn the letters after John found out she was getting married. I just think he should have kept them personal because she was so significant to him for such a long time though he did him very dirty. I don't think this would be a good school book because I don’t feel it has any educational value to it though it has a good theme and nothing inappropriate happens. The theme of the Dear John is about forgiveness. Savannah stopped sending this deployed man who loved her letters without explanation leaving him hanging. Then she finally decided to write him back just to tell him she was getting married to another man. But after all that John forgave her. He even sold his dead dad's most prized possession (his coin collection) to pay off the chemo treatments for her husband.

The title speaks for itself but it's based on a Nicholas Sparks book, so, why not? The first half of the Movie / Book had promise but it quickly went down after the Halfway Mark. Guy meets Girl instant chemistry, guy has 1 year left in military active duty tour. Girl promises to wait the year. Guy is "guilt-ed" into extending his active duty tour. No mention of how much time has passed in the movie between letters.
Girl gets angry but still writes for awhile. Girl gets to thinking and breaks up with guy in a 'Dear John Letter' telling him that she is engaged. wth? Guy acts like a true 5 year-old and burns all of the letters from the Girl and decides to be careless with his life.
Girl gets married. Guy gets hurt.
Time goes by but actual time frame is not really disclosed. Guy extends his tour again.
Guy's father has a stroke. John's father was just about the only character that I really liked and it is very sad what happened to him. John knew that his father was different but he didn't arrange for anyone to check in on him while he was away on military duty.
Guy goes home and he looks up Girl. Girl didn't even marry a hot guy that makes her toes curl. No. She marries her neighbor. Someone who had maybe 2 lines through out the story line. She even married him knowing that the guy was severely sick/ill and she made no mention of even caring for the guy.
Her marriage to her neighbor made no sense. It just seemed as though the Girl just got tired of waiting and just wanted to marry someone, anyone.. At one point she tells John that her husband is a 'nice' guy but that's it, no mention of her ((feelings)) for the guy. Then, the husband needs Extensive Expensive Experimental medical treatment. And, Dear John, has the idea to sell something very special and expensive and should have been "near and dear" to him because it belonged to his father but, no, He gave the money to the Girl and her husband for the Extensive Expensive Experimental medical treatment. Again. Wth?
Guy goes back on military duty, again, the amount of time is undetermined. Years? I don't know..
The story ends with the Girl's husband dying and the Girl meeting up with Dear ole John at the end. Really? What the Heck? I could have saved my two hours and watched or read something else.. this wasn't the story line for me.

I happened to find this book because of Amanda Seyfried. She’s one of the best actresses in my mind. Loved her acting in Les Miserables, Mama Mia 1&2, and Fathers and Daughters. And I especially love her soft and unique voice of singing. So one day, I was searching the songs she’s been singing so far and found the song “Little House” then the movie and book <> which the song came from. That’s how I got to read this book of romance which sounded enchanting.
I would rate this as one of my favorite books! Unlike most of the other novels I read, it’s written from the point of view of a man named John. The words are rather simple but the depiction is so vivid that you get the whole picture. As I read, I got the whole “movie” playing in my mind already. (I haven’t watched it at this point yet.) The whole story is so magnetic that I can’t wait to hold up the book and read again whenever it’s time to put it down and go back to reality.
I love not just the pure and romantic relationship in the book but also the love between John and his father, whom after all these years of miscommunication, he came to realize his father was an Asperger and changed his view and started to love and admire his father in a brand new way.
The distant love absolutely adds to the climax of the story, whether they can keep their love so deep or not. But life is not simple. Reality easily drifts us apart. Love the complications of the emotions and feelings in the story. The ending is not what readers may desire but it’s kind of a happy ending and it deserves to end that way, too.
Love the quote, “I’m still in love with her, and to me that means that I want nothing more than for her to be happy in life. I want that more than anything. It’s all I’ve ever wanted for her.”
Have you love someone so deeply you think that way? Sometimes I do. Loving is not about possession but about bringing joy. If you have someone who think the same for you, then you’re like blessed with a guardian angel!
Has their love changed? I’ll leave it for you to find out!
ADOREI! • Nota: 3⭐ @nicholassparks @editorial_presenca #books #booklover #bookstagramPortugal #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookadict #booknerd #bookaholicgirl #bookstagrams #agirlandherbooks #romance #dearjohn #johnandsavannah #nicholassparks #editorialpresença
The title of my book that I read is called Dear John, and the author is Nicholas Sparks. I really, really liked this book it was so, so good! One reason I really liked it was because it wasn't predictable at all I never really knew what was going to happen. Also when you finish the book it makes the beginning of the book make so much more sense. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the ending, it was really sad and it didn't turn out how I wanted it to but it was still so good! My favorite character in this book was probably the main character, Savannah. She just kind of had a personality similar to mine, she was really outgoing, fun, and really talkative. In the book when her and John meet it wasn't awkward at all she just kept the conversation going, and whenever they went out on dates she always made it so much fun. My favorite quote in this book says, "My dad always said that when you're struggling with something, look at all the people around you and realize that every single person you see is struggling with something and to them, it's just as hard as what you're going through." That is something that Savannah's dad said. Again, I really liked this book and recommend it to everyone.
