"The Gospel of Jesus weaves the entirety of the four gospels into a continuous, chronological harmony that includes places, dates, and maps. This Bible study aid uses the CSB translation"--
Loraine Boettner (1901-1990) was a Reformed Theologian, born on a farm in Linden, Missouri. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree from Tarkio College in 1925, he attended Princeton Theological Seminary where he studied Systematic Theology under Dr. Casper W. Hodge and received his Th.B. (1928) and Th.M. (1929). He taught Bible for eight years in Pikeville College, Kentucky. In 1933 he received the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity from Tarkio College, and in 1957 the degree of Doctor of Literature. He was a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. From 1958 until his death in 1990, Dr. Boettner lived a quite life in Rock Port, Missouri. For the remaining 32 years of his life, he generously sold his books at cost to any who wrote to ask for them. In doing so, Boettner made good conservative theology readily available at a time when such material was often difficult to come by. Through his writings, he served to popularize the Reformed faith and influenced literally tens of thousands of men and women around the world.
What happens when you take in the Gospels as a whole? In The Gospel of Jesus, Loraine Boettner presents the four gospels in a complete narrative.
This book takes the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and combines them into a single story. It also takes in brief sections of Acts 1 and 1 Corinthians 15. The book uses the Christian Standard Bible translation, making for a clear and easy read.
Fresh and Compelling
What I was most pleased to discover was how compelling the book was with all of the accounts together. The story moved quickly, and familiar sections felt fresh when seen in context with everything else.
The main readings do not have verse or chapter numbers, giving the book a “reader version” feel. The book does however include references in the side margins, making it easy for you to go back for further study.
The Complete Story
The book also divides into the several sections, particularly noting the rise of Christ’s popularity and his turn in dealing with opposition. Locations and dates of the events are also noted. All of this was rather helpful in sorting the story out, helping me get the full picture of what was going on. Additional helps include an index of OT references and an index of NT passages.
Bound in a beautiful blue hardcover, this book makes the perfect gift for a graduation or baptism. It is a helpful reference for study or sermon prep, and can also be used as a straightforward devotional read. Come see the complete story of Christ our Savior.
I received a media copy of The Gospel of Jesus and this is my honest review.
I was raised in a church attending family and in my adult life have read the Gospels and read and listened to the Bible. However, until I read The Gospel Of Jesus I have never had these teachings so well and wonderfully presented. I purchased the book with a degree of skepticism but that quickly faded away. This book encourages you to check it’s correctness and is powerfully crafted to be true to the four gospels. So enriching that time passes far too quickly while reading it. The references are instructive and the maps place you closer to the narrative. I’ve already purchased additional copies to give to family and friends and I know more will be purchased to have on hand for those I am moved to provide a copy. This narrative brings the gospels to life while maintaining accuracy to the Bible. If you buy one book for your enrichment consider making it this book. Teachings from my youth and adult life are clearer than ever before. This is an excellent work.
This book is AMAZING. Nothing is missing from Scripture and it streamlines not only all 4 of the Gospels together in a very easy to read narrative, but it also includes important scriptures from the old testament to show prophecies being fulfilled and scriptures from Acts and 1 Corinthians to really help display the Gospel in it's entirety. I loved this and will be using it as a resource for our family's Morning Time and/or Tea Time throughout the years 🩷
I cannot rate this highly enough. I just finished reading it to the kids over a few weeks. There is nothing missing from scripture, and flows very well as a single narrative. I think this would be the best resource to give to someone new to the gospels, before the NT or bible.
This new edition of a work originally published in 1933 is an excellent and faithful harmony of the Four Gospels, arranging the life of Christ in chronological order. The use of the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) makes it easy to read and it flows smoothly.
