I won’t say this is a well-written book, but the historical and political context for Jesus’ time was really interesting! But when there are pages of dialogue that don’t specify who’s talking after the first two lines I have a hard time keeping up with it lol

Very different than what I expected. But I enjoyed it! It’s more about a man living during the same time at Jesus rather than about Jesus Himself. I appreciated getting a better understanding of the political tensions during the time of Jesus. It gave creative color to the time of Jesus, what could have been happening around Jesus, and what life would have been like for others during Jesus’ ministry. I really enjoyed it and glad I finally read it.

A very interesting approach, but enjoyable. Gerd is a critical historian and I certainly don't agree with everything he puts out in this creative book, but I still enjoyed it. There are some good historical insights that I could still connect to the New Testament.

2.5. had a few interesting ideas, but then again, maybe german academics shouldn't write novels :(

A Book for my religion class, It was still super interesting to see life of Jesus portrayed from a narrative perspective of an outsiders view.

Such an interesting idea for a book. Well executed, at times a bit presumptuous, but that’s the nature of the genre.
