On The Edge #17

Living Out of the Box

Rate this book
The very first time Virginia spent a night with the vampire Anando, she couldn’t have begun to imagine all the sensual and sexual games she would experience with him. She also couldn’t have imagined that she would fall in love with him, or he with her.

As she moves in with him and they find their places in each other’s lives, the discoveries start again. A few of them happen through old games role-play, public sex or a familiar dildo in a different hand. Other discoveries come through new toys, some battery-operated, others custom-made to fit just right. And yet more discoveries come from playing with old and new partners.

But in the end, the one lesson that remains the same might be the most important of love.

**This is a sequel to Out of the Box series.**

**This story centers on a M/F relationship, but it includes M/M, M/M/F and F/F elements to various degrees.**

Kallysten is a writer of romance novels and short stories, most of them with paranormal elements.

Her first eBooks were published by Linden Bay Romance in 2005. The defunct Venus Press subsequently published a few of her short stories. Because so many of her stories are linked as series and part of the same universe, she decided it would make sense to have them all in the same place, which is why she self-published, first with the co-op Alinar Publishing and now on her own. When she sees calls for submissions that speak to her muse, she sometimes tries for them, and was published this way by Samhain and Torquere.

Holey rusted metal Batman! This was FANG-FREAKING-TASTIC! I've never read anything like it and I don't think I ever will. I honestly can't imagine somebody being able to top this! At least not in my opinion. Living Out of the Box was just so HOT and EXCITING that I find myself creativly clogged, totally unable to communicate it's GREATNESS to you.

But I'll try...

Living Out of the Box is the newest addition to Kallysten's FABULOUS Out of the Box series. Here we find Virginia and Anando starting their new life together as a couple. They still play their games though. Nothing could stop them from that LOL!

Virginia has come a long way from that short story where we first met her. It's almost as if she were a caterpillar back then in the first Out of the Box. Then, throughout the other novellas in the series, she entered a sort of chrysalis to undergo a transformation. Now, with Living Out of the Box, she is ready to emerge as a beautiful butterfly, slowly unfurling her wings with the confidence that that beauty brings. (How's that for imagery?)

Anando is as UBER SMEXY as always. The support and encouragement that he gives Virginia is fantastic. He's always there to keep her safe while gently urging her to do the things that he knows she will enjoy. Giving her the confidence to release those small inner feelings of shame and guilt that still remained, even after all this time.

The framework of this book is similar to the Out of the Box series in it's complete form. Kallysten has divided the novel into parts, giving each a brief two or three word title, hinting at it's contents. Similar to the other stories in a way, but also different enough to be considered new. For the other installments of the series it was their covers showing an image related to the game that Anando and Virginia were to play within it's pages. However, these new titles are actually pretty tantalizing. They grab your attention an draw you in. Another thing that shows the continuity within the series is that all of the parts are seen from Virginia's POV except for the last one. The ending is is in Anando's POV and we see through his inner dialog how completely satisfied, happy and proud of Virginia he was.

There is one thing that I must warn you about. The spiciness of this book is HIGH THRESHOLD so if you're and erotica virgin, I'd choose something else to start with. (But Kallysten is a great person to loose your cherry to. Believe me, I'm talking from experience!) This book has EVERYTHING in it. When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING!!!!! Here, let me tell you. There is exhibitionism, voyeurism, M/F, M/M, slight F/F action, bondage, menage with anal and group sex to say the least. So don't say I didn't warn you! Living Out of the Box is so STEAMY that I needed to change my panties TWICE! And that was after I had found my man to help me out before I....um...BOILED OVER!

I never fail to enjoy myself while reading Kallysten's work. Amid all the other authors out there writing paranormal erotic romance, she is CATEGORICALLY STUNNING!

My review:

It was a serious erotica book! Serious in that sense, that Living Out of the Box included lot of explicit sex scenes, M/F, M/M, M/F/M scenes. I have read some of Kally’s short stories, so I had an idea what to expect when started Living Out of the Box. What I wasn’t prepared was how hot and steamy it was!

It was well-written erotica book. The writing was colorful and detailed, leaving nothing out and it was easy to read. The characters were interesting and captivating.

Regarding the plot:

It was story about human woman Virginia moving in to her boyfriend, vampire Anando and exploring her sexuality. While I think, that the writing was excellent, then the story and the narrative were weaker. The story was about Virgina trying out different sexual experiences and finding out where her sexual limits went, but what I missed was something else – a story which had some more action besides the sex scenes. There was not enough plotting in it. I missed some conflicts and the story developments in the book which was otherwise really well-written. I would have wanted to see more challenges besides the sexual challenges.

I did enjoy how the structure of the book was built up. Each chapter had a different game or experience which Virginia and Anando tried, so chapters had clear start and ending of the story. I think it was a good idea to use Virginia’s point of view and therefore I was very surprised and little disturbed by the last chapter where the story was described by Anando’s point of view. It confused me.

Regarding the characters:

Characters were captivating. I enjoyed Virginia’s curiosity and her courage to experiment and also Anando’s support to Virginia. Both characters were nice and sweet and hot. I think that the supportive characters like Leo, Lisa and Brett gave extra spice to the book.

Generally:

If you like pure erotica books, then Living Out of the Box is definitely recommendable! Kallysten is very good erotica author. It’s hot and sexy!

4 stars.

I love this series. Bought the 10 shorts on a whim late one night and am glad I did. Was excited when I had read this one was to be released. As before the story was steamy yet sensual and somehow romantic.

Time has passed from the first of the stories, and Virginia has consented to live with Anando, and is steadily working to accept and consider all of the changes her new relationship has brought to her life. Just a year of knowing one another and her entire life plan has adjusted.

Continuing with their “games” Anando is one who makes ‘suggestions’ or asks questions to show Virginia that she can freely express her feelings and explore her sexual curiosities without embarrassment or shame.

Arranging for another encounter with Leo presented a curious twist: they would have their encounter over On The Edge, the club that Brett owns in the apartment he shares with Lisa and Leo, and he and Lisa are allowed to watch.

Throughout the forays into voyeurism, exhibitionism and ménage, Virginia has been slowly developing her openness and sexuality as she understands herself and gains confidence. With an eye for addressing both her very human and very female questions, we are treated to perspectives on the relationships shared by both she and Anando and the trio of Brett, Lisa and Leo.

Sizzling and detailed sexual encounters pepper this story, with the voicing of the characters aiding in the imagery and providing entrée into their own personalities and relationships in a way that fills both the prurient and realistic side of the reader’s questions. A series that has potential for multiple twists and turns, but shows the strength and solidity of a relationship that is far out of the societal norm, and is wholly addictive.

I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This is a wonderful, captivating and interesting book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every page. The story covers two unusual people, Virginia a human woman who has moved in with the vampire Anando and trying to embrace her sexuality and their friends, Brett, Leo and Lisa that also get involved. What you will find in this story is some drama, intrigue, a human woman, a vampire, friends, relationships, a club (On The Edge), exploration of sexuality, encouragement, curiosity, sexual challenges, a small amount of BDSM, bondage, voyeurism, M/F, M/M, a small amount of F/F, anal intimacy, ménage, M/F/M, lust, love, romance and explicit erotic scenes. It is one of the few books that I have read about a paranormal erotic romance that really caught my attention and kept it to the last page. I enjoy the book and found the story-line entertaining and the pace steady, the story is told from two different points of view. The characters have personality and emotional feelings. I would recommend this book to fans that like to read Paranormal Erotic Romances.

I have really enjoyed the On The Edge series. Virginia and Anando have a relationship that is very intriguing to read about and the bond between them has grown so strong. He continues to encourage her to challenge her ideas about what she is comfortable with sexually but never pushes her to do something she does not want to do.

The author has done an excellent job developing these characters and the sexual side of their relationship doesn't overwhelm the story but adds a richness to it. As she explores her sexuality, it brings them closer and makes her stronger and more confident. So many authors think that being extremely graphic with the sexual descriptions makes it more real but I prefer this author's style gives it much more depth. While it does not shy away from the descriptions, it intertwines them with the feelings. It feels real and right for them.

I received a copy in return for a honest review.

Okay. no matter how much I love vampire but this book is not what I expected. I read this ebook during on the road trip to college. As first I was like yes because they have vampire, and then I was like okay this is not what I thought it would be. But it is okay I guess, just not what I thought it would be.
