I enjoyed this much more then the first collection, partly because X-Men ties and partly because no big event tie-ins. Ending is tragic but excellently done. Writing is very good, as Gillen is becoming a favorite of mine.

Conclusion to the Kid Loki saga. I think Season 2 of the Loki series ramped up my interest in this series (which I was already enjoying). I read “Journey Into Mystery” and “Everything Burns” in one stretch and that’s the way to do it. It’s the Norse gods, so of course there’s going to be some Deus Ex Machina. But there’s also twists along the way. Reincarnating Loki as a teenager is pretty brilliant since he’s struggling with his nature & the shadow of his former self. Can he escape his past & become something more, something better? Or will the story of Loki repeat as before? That’s the central question and I love how Kieron wrestles with it.

The conclusion to Gillen's run on Journey into Mystery is satisfying and heart-breaking.

Loki serves the Queens of Asgard from the Shadows, and he will travel to Hel and back. New gods of metal and steam rise in Britian, and Loki is tasked with aiding thr Gofs of Britian in a battle between Gods old and new. War comes to Asgard, and Volstagg takes the crown and leads Asgard's army into battle. But only the cunning of Loki can win the battle.

The friendship between Loki and Leah is a real emotional cornerstone of Gillen's story and their dynamic felt cute and genuine. Their bickering and mockery was great fun to read.

All the plot threads and double crosses come to a climax in this incredible fantasy tale.

Not quite as strong as the first half but the ending but the ending is so exemplary and how everything builds to get there elevates this to 5 stars. The art is never bad but the style is constantly shifting which can be distracting. I wish the whole book had the style of the last issue but I understand why it doesn’t because that style looks very time consuming to draw.
