The Whaling exhibit at Mystic Seaport Museum in CT piqued my interest in whaling. This book says it all in a very readable, thorough, documented, and insightful way. The book made me realize that an excellent way to learn/study American history is through the lens of a specific enterprise or theme. I probably learned more about the American Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, the Civil War and 18th & 19th century American diplomacy than I did from any textbook. It is amazing how much of the story of this country can be told through whaling!
