IMAGINE you could take a medically ordered prescription and an afternoon off for a temporarily mind-altering experience. By doing this once a week for several weeks, you might dramatically increase the effectiveness of your psychotherapy. It would have no medical risk, wouldn't cost a lot (comparatively speaking) and might even save time and money by speeding the therapeutic process. During the experience, a friend would be with you for safety and support. Later, you would discuss each experience with your therapist to ensure you fully integrated what you'd gone through. WOULD YOU DO IT? THE GOAL OF THIS BOOK IS TO HELP YOU DECIDE.
Praise for The Beginner's Guide to Ketamine Therapy for Mental Health "What an amazing time to be alive and have colleagues with minds like that of Leah Benson. It is truly a gift and blessing to meet someone with the academic blueprint and intellectual savviness combined with a heart that is open and curious about the ways to grow, evolve and assist others to heal. Leah is one of those practitioners who doesn’t just talk the talk because she knows it intellectually. She practices what she preaches and is willing to be the lab rat and the scientist simultaneously." - Lourdes O’Byrne, CAP, LMT; Addictions/Wellness Counselor, Miami, FL
A helpful intro to someone interested in doing ketamine assisted therapy themselves. I turned to this book looking for an intro from a clinical perspective and it definitely helped but didn't meet my needs. I also was not the intended audience. I appreciated the section discussing how someone with reservations for religious reasons might consider ketamine assisted therapy as an option.
Helpful. At times repetitive which is likely intended to benefit those who are looking to explore this as treatment as the repetition does provide reassurance. She speaks to fears in order to decrease anxiety and normalize the emotions which someone exploring this treatment may experience. She has undergone her own ketamine treatment and speaks from first hand experience.
This book is exactly what I thought it would be- an explanation of how ketamine works when used in ketamine assisted psychotherapy. If KAP has been recommended to you but you want to know a little more about how it works and what to expect, this is the perfect little guide for you!
