While I may not be signing up for the Ironman tomorrow because of this book, this was still a great book to understand and appreciate the, bizarre at first glance, world of triathlons.

A decent triathlon training guide if you plan to train using heart rate zones. If you have no intention of buying a heart monitor, or moreover tracking how many minutes you spend in each different heart rate zone in each workout, then the approach used in the training plans in this book probably isn't for you.

On the plus side, even if you don't use the heart rate training plans, there is plenty of motivational material here as well as some instructional sections (though not every swim coach would agree with some of the stroke instruction).

I finished my first triathlon about a week ago and this book both inspired and taught me how to train for that race. It's easy to follow, accessible, and reasonable. Edwards firmly believes that any woman can complete a triathlon, and I'm not inclined to agree. This book also gives step by step guide on heart zones training, swim, bike and run technique, and gear guide.
