Scanguards Vampires #5

Zane's Redemption

Rate this book
The last thing vampire bodyguard Zane wants to do is to guard a hybrid, a half-vampire, half-human, whose father wants to keep her a virgin. Known for his violent temper and callous lack of compassion, Zane’s out-of-control rage, born of the cruelty he suffered during the Holocaust, drives him to focus only on revenge. Trying to find the last of his torturers is his only goal in life.

Portia is a young hybrid with a serious dilemma: in a few weeks, her body will be set in its final vampire form. If she is to avoid having to live out her immortal life as a virgin, she must find a lover in that short time—something her father hires Zane to prevent.

The moment Portia and Zane meet, rules begin to bend, and a forbidden attraction bursts into flames hotter than the hell of Zane’s past. But that past threatens to pull them apart unless they can overcome their prejudice, forsake hate for love, and revenge for forgiveness.

I've read all of this series and so far Samson and Gabrielle's book was my favourite, but Zane you've stole my heart.

Photobucket

This is Zane's story and its heartbreaking and hard to read at times, it's seems more than a vampire romance novel, Zane has seen so much and gone through so much, he lived through ww2.

Photobucket

Of course you could say this is all fiction, but unfortunately ww2 camps were real and horrifying and this book delves into that, with added vampirism!

Because of all this he keeps parts of himself hidden, and only shows his aggression and strength.

Photobucket

So zane has been a bad boy, and downgraded as a bodyguard, and has to guard a hybrid vampire (part human part vamp), enter Portia who's not too happy, she has a special goal and it needs to be completed before she's 21! Her father has other ideas and wants her guarded but why???

She convinces zane of her plight and eventually he agrees to help but at what cost.

I cant tell you much more of the plot as I really wouldn't want to spoil it,

Photobucket

as this book surprised me in a few places.

“When I'm near you, I can feel you in here."

She pressed her hand against her heart.

"And when you're gone, there's an emptiness there. And it hurts. and the pain only goes away when you're close again. Tell me, Zane, tell me what that is."

~Portia”

Needless to say this had sexual attraction, super hot detailed love making, danger, adventure, and sexy hot vampires everywhere.

I have to mention Oliver the day bodyguard scan-guards helper, I really like him - his character is really growing

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to vampire fans, of course it's better if you've read the series so you know the characters, I still have a big soft spot for Samson, but Zane, Zane, Zane......

Got to give this 5 big stars

Book 5 of the Scaguards Vampire Series by Tina Folsom focuses on Zane. The onery loner vampire of the Scanguards crew. Since brutally murdering a rapist one night Samson decides he's fed up with Zane's antics. So instead of firing him, him and Gabriel try to teach him a lesson. But babysitting a snobish half-breed princess is the last thing Zane excpects. Neither is his fierce attraction to her.

Portia's a half-breed and she realizes her over-bearing Vampire Father has assigned a body guard to keep her from getting out of control while he's away. She soon finds out that the real reason for this is to stop her from losing her virginity. Once she reaches 21st birthday her body will stop aging and she will be a virgin forever. Time is running out for her and meeting Zane gives her an idea to make him her first no matter what daddy dearest has to say about it.

First off, I would like to say that this is the best of the Scanguards series! We find out a lot about the reason for Zane's cruelty and ongoing rage. He's a hollocaust survivor and his lifes mission is to find all the evil Nazis who turned him and made his life misserable. Then his willingness to protect Portia from a horrible fate of being a virgin forever. There were a lot of hilarious moments as well as heartbreaking momements where we got to see first hand the tragedy of Zanes life when he and his family was taken to a concentration camp when he was a young man.

I greatly enjoyed the banter and the sexual tension between Zane and Portia from the momemnt they met.

Pride dictated that he not let her win this argument. “You know nothing about me, and you never will.” She didn’t turn as she set her foot on the first stair. Her words were low as she murmured as if talking to herself, but he heard them all the same. “Watch your back, tough guy.” Watch yours, or you’ll find yourself on it soon, he wanted to respond but didn’t.

Zane realized that he wanted Portia right away and was scared that once he did...he wouldn't beable to let her go. I was quite surprised that we got to see a softer and more vurernable side to him. But it didn't take away from the fierceness and sometimes brutal vampire that I grew to love.

Zane averted his eyes so Portia wouldn’t detect his lie. Yes, he was rough, but with her, he could care; with her, he would see that she enjoyed it. For her, he could do that. But he didn’t want her to know, because this was never going to happen. If he took Portia, he’d consume her, devour her, and then, when she wanted to leave him, he’d force her to stay with him, because he wouldn’t be able to let her go. One taste of her, and he knew that much with certainty. There was no need to tempt fate and take this any further.

There were some parts of this story that I found it tough to read. Zane's self-hatred of his heritage...at which I didn't see coming at all. And also, when Zane tried to explain to Samson that Portia's father was forcing her to remain a virgin forever. It was extremely frustrating when Samson refused to see reason and always assumed the worst in Zane....grrrr! But in the end, they all realized what was going on and I forgave him(sorta). All in all, this was a story of redemption, forgiveness and love. As well as the old adage; never judge a book by its cover. In my opinion, Zane was always put into a certain bracket, and I learned that he was much more than that. At his core, he really wanted someone to love and love him back. He didn't think he was worthy of that love because he always saw himself as a dirty jew, as it was ingrained in him when he was captured. But Portia saw the good in him and showed him that he was worthy of love. Pulled him out of the dark prison within himself and brought him to the light. And became his shinning star. I don't want to give anything away, since there's a lot of surprises and twists in this installment. But what I will say is; this is the best vampire romance that I've read in a while. Please read this series...you won't be dissapointed in the least. I also can't wait to see what going on with Thomas and Eddie.....Hope they are next?????

The best book in the series!! I was surprised at the intensity of the book, the subject matter that was dealt with, and a twist that damn near had me falling out of my chair.

Zane is everything I love in an H. Tormented, protective, passionate, bad, but oh so good, and when he falls in love, he falls hard. Zane hasn’t allowed himself, or rather doesn’t feel he deserves, to be loved for over 60 years. His job with Scanguards hangs in the balance when he acts on his desire to be with Portia, a young vampire hybrid he’s guarding. These two burned up the sheets with some SCORCHIN’ HOT LOVIN’! WOOWEE!! When he revealed his painful past to her, it broke my heart, and made me so sad. Portia treats him with respect, kindness and gives him her heart. His happiness is short-lived. WOW! Didn’t see that one coming!

We get a pretty good dose of the characters from the previous books, as they are a big part of the storyline, and that was very enjoyable. I got my Dr. Drake fix, but I wish it had been a little bit more. The book was fast paced, had great dialogue, humor, a unique plot, and the writing was outstanding. Tina Folsom really knows her way around a book. Next up, Thomas and Eddie. This love connection’s been brewing in the background for a while and it’s one I’m looking forward too.

I will start off by saying O.M.G I LOVED this book! Zane's book is my new favorite! Ok now that i got that out of the way..

This book revolves around Hot Zane. It takes you into his life before he was turned into a vampire, why he was turned into a vampire, and his need for revenge after he was turned into a vampire. Which Tina has done very well.

The story starts off with Zane stumbling upon a woman getting raped. Zane goes nuts and brutally murders the guy (which he has no regrets or remorse on how he killed him). Samson and Gabriel do not like the "way" the killing was done and they both agree that Zane is holding on to his sanity by a thread and demote him to lighter duties (less stressful). The Scanguards receive a job with in tales a bodyguard for a woman while her father takes leave out of town for business. Samson and Gabriel think this job is for Zane. Zane is not happy about this at all, until..

Portia is approaching her 21st birthday and she just found out that if she doesn't lose her virginity by then her body will forever be molded with her virginity in tacked. She questions her father about this and is upset he knew and assumes he is preventing it by hiring a bodyguard for her while he is away for business. She will do anything to lose it.

When Zane and Portia first meet it is WOW! undeniable attraction between the two! I loved the chemistry between them! We get the escape, Zane goes after her. We get the *seduction*. We get the "have. to. fight. the. attraction". We get the "why fight it?". We get the action. We get very HOT sex scenes. We get it all people!

Loved this book, one of my all time favorites! Great job Tina!

Holy crap I loved this book!

This series has been a favourite of mine since I read the very first book (Samson's Lovely Mortal) in May 2011. For me it has a perfect balance of action, romance and humour.

Zane is incredible. I am a complete sucker for the agressive brooding male and Zane was no exception. The story of how he became a vampire was heartbreaking, it really makes you understand why he has become so hard. His need for revenge has completely taken over his life leaving him unable to form close friendships (even though we know how deeply he cares for his Scanguards family) and incapable of loving. He cannot see past his anger.

When this book starts we see Zane in his truest form, ripping out the heart of a man he just caught raping some poor woman. He feels no guilt or remorse and actually takes joy in the violence. It sates his anger for a brief time.
Samson has been watching Zane, ever more worried about his mental state, but leaving the rapists mutilated body in the street where the local police find it is one step too far. He and the other's at Scanguards decide that Zane needs to be reminded of the nicer things in life.

Step one of their plan. Yvette gives Zane a puppy called Z The scenes between Zane and his puppy are at first just really funny, but then we start to see him soften and we realise that Zane can be caring and loving, it just takes a lot to break through the barriers.
Step two of their plan is to put Zane on a low stress job to try and keep him calm. They put him on what they think is a simple case of babysitting... a father trying to protect his wild and rebellious daughter. Zane can't possibly get into trouble with that right? wrong!

Zane is instantly attracted to Portia and that attraction only growns stronger and stronger when Portia decides that Zane is the man for the job. Her father is determined for her to remain a virgin, even though her body will freeze to it's final form in just a few weeks time leaving her a virgin forever. Zane is the first person she has felt a coonection with and is determined to convice him to take her virginity. Not matter how hard Zane fights to keep control of himself Portia persues him relentlessly until she get's what she wants. I loved her LOL.
Their relationship is incredible, passionate and explosive. Zane is so dominant and agressive, which makes their sex scenes amazing! I couldn't get enough of them.

It was great to catch up with a lot of the previous characters, especially Thomas and Eddie. I have mentioned in previous reviews how much I love them but now I want to cry a little for Thomas. He is clearly in love with Eddie, but still as far as we know Eddie is straight. Thomas is his mentor and they live together but I think this situation is really starting to take it's toll. I can't wait to see what happens with them in the future.

I read this book within a day, I just couldn't put it down. It was my favourite of the series so far.

Ollie's review for bittenbyparanormalromance

Zane's Redemption is the 5th book in the Scanguards Vampires series and it has not lost its steam and ability to pull the reader in with its compelling storyline and characters that regular readers of the series have come to love. Tina somehow manages to capture the essence of her characters and make them jump off the pages and come alive that you cannot help but feel their turmoil and passion throughout the book.

Regular readers of the series will remember Zane as the dangerous, reclusive Scanguard vampire that even his friends know to keep their distance at times or face his wraith. However, we get a closer look at Zane and learn about the past horrors he endured and understand the reason for him existing on hate and revenge alone until he meets Portia.

I thought Portia was the perfect fit for Zane and the right person that would be able to breakthrough the wall that he had erected around his heart to keep everyone out. Her sweet and innocent charm, her ability to see the passionate vampire underneath the cold exterior and understanding the deep pain he must have gone through to make him the way he was made Portia the perfect person for him.

I loved some of the banter that occurred in the book between Zane and Portia that showed the playful side of Zane. There were several scenes in the book that had me grinning from ear-to-ear and laughing out loud that people around me gave me strange looks. Without spoiling anything, the scenes with Yvette were hilarious. Oh and who could resist Z? ;)

Not only does the reader get to see the depths of Zane's anger, but also his passion. Portia ignites feelings inside Zane that he had refused to ever feel again surface to the top like a volcano. The heat that these two generate on the pages is so sizzling hot you will need to hose yourself off to cool down. I loved how Zane could show both his animalistic and gentle side with Portia (wow he really knows how to love hard and soft). "fanning self"

As always Tina does an amazing job giving readers so much to savor (action, intrigue, passion, love) and enthralls the reader into feeling everything that the characters go through. Readers will definitely treasure this book as it will pull them in on a wonderful journey of highs and lows.

★★★¾.
Zane was assigned to protect a hybrid young woman named Portia and she was a handful. She was trying to get him to help her lose her virginity before her 18th birthday because her body will freeze in whatever form she was in at 18. But Zane isn't the flowers and candy kind of guy. Plus he was on a mission to assassinate a doctor who performed experiments on him while he was in a concentration camp.

The only problem was something about Portia called to him and he couldnt resist her. What happens with the two worlds collide?

I really liked this story but I docked it a half star because the author defanged Zane. Zane was scary in all the other books, acting like a sociopath and here he was kind of docile. He would assert how much of a monster he was, but his actions didn't show that. I guess the beauty tamed the beast after all.

Portia was smart, brave and likable. She was clear about what she wanted and went after it. She sizzled with Zane and they worked. I hope the author remembers to hook up her BF Lauren soon.

I will start with an admission I lurve a bit of vampire erotica/romance, and I lurve a bad boy !! Zane was introduced to us readers in Amaury's Hellion, and as soon as I read about him I wanted to know more and get into his character and back story, this book doesn't disappoint on these fronts as it gives you plenty of both!! It's hard to write this review as there are a few surprises along the way that I wouldn't want to give away and spoil anyone's reading pleasure, so I have given a brief outline of the story and my thoughts. I will also give a guarantee, if you have read the other Scanguards books you are about to become a member of team Zane, and you will not be disappointed lol :o)

The book gets straight into the action with Zane being a vigilante and brutally killing a rapist. When Samson hears of his actions Zane has his class A authorization revoked and is given a baby sitting job looking after 20yr old Portia, while the Scanguard boss decides what further action to take.
Portia is a hybrid vamp with a problem, once she turns 21 her body will set in it's final vampire form and she will be forever a virgin. This is something she doesn't want as every time she has sex as a vampire it will be a painful experience. With her father leaving town on business Scanguards are called in by her overbearing father to protect her virginity, whilst Portia is determined to loose it. There is an instant attraction between Zane and Portia and the chemistry is HOT, they have a will they won't they thing going on !! There are lots of twists and turns for the coupe and when Portia goes missing the full Scanguard cast is there to help. I love how the rest of the cast of Scanguards are always included and still developing in each book we are also introduced to Zane's oldest friend Quinn and his new buddy little Z ;O)

I was very nervous before reading this book, the similarities between Zane and Zsadist from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series are very strong and Lover Awakened is one of my all time favorite books, I was worried this would be to similar to that and I would be disappointed...... well I need not have worried !!!
I absolutely loved this character, he is the bad boy of the pack and the other guys always jump to conclusions regarding his actions and his character and think the worst of him. He has kept his past a secret from his colleagues and he isn't really close to any of them. His back story was heart wrenching and so well written, you could totally understand how and why he has become the cold calculating killer he is now and even feel his loss and sympathize.

My only criticism would be that I wanted more, I could have read double what was written I wanted to know more about Zane's back story. I would have like more time for the build up of the Zane and Portia relationship and then I wanted to spend more time with the couple!! This is more a compliment to the writer for creating such good characters that I want to spend more time with.
Overall another great book in the series, I cannot praise this series enough and it always gets my 5* rating. Now looking forward to the next book which I believe is Quinn's story :O)

This is the 5th installment of the "Scanguards Vampires" series by Tina Folsom. This book tells the story of Zane, the darkest and most dangerous vampire of the scanguards organization. It fills in his life in Nazi Germany and how that affected how he came to be the way he is and what motivated his destructive behavior.

Zane, who has isolated himself from any emotional relationships and ties, is on the fast track to being fired from his Scanguard security position because of his erratic and increasingly dangerous vigilante actions. As a last resort his boss assigns him to a routine bodyguard stint for a college student whose vampire father is out of town. Protecting Portia Lewis should be an easy assignment for the seasoned vampire to prove he could complete a job without flying off the edge.

Portia Lewis, a rare hybrid, is a treasured daughter whose father worries some man will take advantage of her innocence and introduce her to carnal pleasure while he's away and hires Scanguard Security to keep her safe. Zane, who feels his skills as a top clearance security operative are being wasted as a "babysitter," knows if he refuses or quits this assignment it will be the end of his employment. But, as he's around Portia and talks to her he begins to question the motives surrounding his assignment. Is she the innocent in need of protection or an out of control party girl just out for a good time needing to be kept out of trouble?

Zane finds himself fighting an increasing attraction to Portia who feels the same for him. But having sex with her would guarantee he would loose the respect of his fellow Scanguard vampire family and his job. It would also affect his all consuming need to seek vengence on all those from his past responsible for his family's deaths and turning him into a vampire.

This has got to be the best of the series so far. The glimpses of Zane in previous books gave little hope he would change. His sadistic pleasure for pain and hurt went too deep. It would take a strong story line to make me believe he would be loved or could love. This author delivers. She weaves a story that had me turning page after page until the end where I cried because it ended it was that good. Scenes between the two are steamy hot but not graphic. Author doesn't give a any ground work of a possible storyline for the next book but I'm sure there will be one.

The last thing vampire bodyguard Zane wants to do is to guard a hybrid, a half-vampire, half-human, whose father wants to keep her a virgin. Known for his violent temper and callous lack of compassion, Zane's out-of-control rage, born of the cruelty he suffered during the Holocaust, drives him to focus only on revenge. Trying to find the last of his torturers is his only goal in life.

Portia is a young hybrid with a serious dilemma: in a few weeks, her body will be set in its final vampire form. If she is to avoid having to live out her immortal life as a virgin, she must find a lover in that short time--something her father hires Zane to prevent.

The moment Portia and Zane meet, rules begin to bend, and a forbidden attraction bursts into flames hotter than the hell of Zane's past. But that past threatens to pull them apart unless they can overcome their prejudice, forsake hate for love, and revenge for forgiveness.
He saw her & his life was over. He fights temptation at every turn. He attempts to sink his nails into his past to fuel his hate & the goal to kill those that killed & tormented his family. It's all in vien as he falls for the beauty that ties his past to his present. I have mentioned in the past that I have become addicted to this series. Each one of these stories tells a beautiful story of how someones past affect their present life & how they have been able to overcome with love as an anchor. Zane's story has thus far been my favorite. Thank you Tina! You ROCK!

This book was absolutely brilliant. Tina Folsom did an amazing job in her portrayal of a young man who was turned into a vampire and escaped from the concentration camp after his parents were killed and after killing his sister, at her request, because she didn't want to live life as a vampire. The story was emotional and complex. Zane's became violent, self-destructive, and bent on seeking vengence to those who wronged him and his family. Enter Portia who wins his trust and his love. The romance between the two happens rather naturally and it wasn't forced which made the book all that much more interesting. The story has a lot of interesting twists and turns and you never find out the connection between Zane's tormenter and Portia's father until almost the end.

This story was emotional on another front because Folsom dedicated this story to her grandfather who was a prisoner at a concentration camp. Her dedicated prickled my eyes with tears before I even started reading the storyy.

Masterfully done!

You all know I've been waiting for this book since the second book in the series. It's finally here and I didn't wait one second to go out and buy it! OMG am I glad I didn't wait!

Zane's Redemption by Tina Folsom was another brilliant, and when I say brilliant, I mean BRILLIANT, addition to the Scanguards series!!

Zane is a crazy vampire that has no thoughts about inflicting pain upon people, especially when it's to help his boss at Scanguards where he works as a bodyguard. After killing a would be rapist, he is punished for his brutality by his boss Samson Woodford, by being placed on a "babysitting" job.

Zane is furious with being placed on such a demeaning job, but knows he cannot live without his family and obides by Samson's terms, including taking a puppy into his home as well. Can big, bad ass Zane be softened by a puppy?

Portia Lewis is a hybrid, half vampire half human, loved and sheltered by her father her entire life. She is about to come into adulthood on her twenty first birthday where her body will stay the same the rest of her life. When her best friend Lauren, also a hybrid, tells her she must lose her virginity before then or be destined to pain over and over again, Portia sets out to do just that.

When Zane meets Portia for the first time, neither of them can deny there is a connection. Zane is not happy about his new charge, or the fact that he'd like to do more than just guard her. As they grow closer, Zane learns of what her father is doing to her, and vows to help her. Breaking all the rules he's vowed to uphold, he whisks Portia away to a private location, and the hunt begins. Samson is pissed that Zane would break a clients trust and begins to use all his resources to find them.

In the meantime, Portia and Zane grow closer, and as she breaks through his walls, his heart starts to soften as they fall in love. After taking her virginity, and don't think for a minute Folsom left out the steamy sex scenes, Portia notices a tattoo on Zane's arm. Unable to control his feelings, he breaks down and tells her of his past, and torture he endured from a concentration camp at the hands of an evil doctor. Over 60 decades he's hunted the men that ruined his life, turned him into a vampire and killed his family. All but one, are dead. Crying for the man she loves and the pain he's endured, Zane can't understand why she's not running away. It's wonderful to see such a hard man be reduced to such softness, to know that he's actually capable of love and I found myself very happy for Zane.

WHAM!!!!

Folsom throws in a surprise twist that I didn't even see coming! I have to say that I now think this is my favorite book of the entire series. It was well written and an OMG I-cannot-put-it-down kind of read. Zane and Portia are such a great fit for each other and it is just phenomenal! I LOVED IT! All of the characters were amazing and I can't wait to see what Folsom brings us next. I highly recommend this book and the entire series! Go get your hands on it, put it on your shelves or on your kindle, because this is one series you won't mind reading over and over again!

In the end not enough erotic for me to rate it as such and the story line is just not good enough to be good. It was OK. Glad that Zane final got his.

I don't know why I torture myself. These books are so predictable and frequently have moronic premises. The last book had two set ups with an uber powerful witch and we knew what was going to happen. Yet, we watch how slowly the characters start to realize this. They must run the worst body guarding business that exists in the way that they work. So... here I am on the second book of a restart of the series, and you know what is coming, and wondering, 'why isn't this looked out so much sooner?' Really, they run an investigative organization and they cannot find out the temperament of the "woman", not girl, to make sure things are copacetic? They are imprisoning a almost 20 something "girl" as they call her. And when Samson tells Zane that she has fooled him, that a father wouldn't do that to their daughter... WTF... does he not read a news paper? I'm not going to put all the evil and sadistic things that evil men do to their children. He is an idiot when he comes back with that answer. They are all idiots. Still I read on... I like the romance I guess. Still I see Zane's past coming to slap him upside the head with the woman and the reason right there biting them all on the asses. **sigh** This one with the idiotic premise of not being able to take a hymen without "fresh" sperm. And then the obvious evil father and the assassin's now of all times. How convenient.

Usually I look over it and just enjoy the relationship but I'm being assaulted by stupidity from every side, even the sex side.

First Impression

Screw Phury. I found Zsadist's real twin and it's Zane!! I'm so happy to pick this series back up and dive into Zane's story, I've been so curious as to what happened in his past and now I'll finally get some answers!

Opening Lines

"Zane heard a scream and blocked it out to prolong feeding from the succulent neck of the Latino kid he'd cornered in an alley in the Mission, the predominantly Mexican and South American neighbourhood of San Francisco."

The Good

I have been waiting to read about Zane and I'm so excited to have finally reached his story! Tina Folsom did not disappoint, although Amaury will always be my favourite. I didn't know what to expect while reading Zane's Redemption and I was shocked to realise all the pain and suffering he had to endure. His past helped me understand him better and also had me hoping for him to really experience love.

Portia was a great match for Zane. I couldn't how cruel her father was!! The moment Portia and Zane meet it's instant and intense attraction, wow. I enjoyed all the new characters we were introduced to minus Lauren, I'm happy Lauren wasn't a major character because she annoyed the heck out of me. This series just keeps getting better and better and I'm really enjoying how Tina Folsom is challenging her characters and allowing real character growth.

The Bad/The In-Between
- Nothing.

Lasting Impression

Overall, I was highly satisfied with Zane's Redemption! This series just continues to get better and better. I never feel like each story is being recycled, Tina Folsom manages to keep the stories fresh and exciting, oh and how can I forget, steamy ;). Up next, Quinn's Undying Rose!

Zane is pulled from A status in Scanguard because Samson fears he is losing his edge and sanity. Trying to pull him back Samson, Gabriel and the other core members try to soften him by removing him from stressful jobs, by removing his status and giving him a job babysitting a 20 year female put under their charge by her father whilst he is away on business. Little do the members know that Zane is about to react to this charge in a way none of them expect.

Portia is weeks away from turning 21 and as a hybrid, part vampire, part human, her body will be frozen at what ever state it is in when she turns 21. After finding out from her best friend that if she is still a virgin when she turns 21 she will forever remain one. Her father, admits that he is aiming to keep her this way but does not reveal why, lie's to Scanguard about her to try and keep her this way while he is away on business.

Little does any one know what will happen when Zane meets her and the significance she has not only on his present and future life but also his past.

Oh my Zane, Zane Zane....

This is one of the best vampire books I have ever read. It's filled so much with emotion, compassion and love and not just for Zane & Portia but for the Scanguard core members and even Z! (Not spoiling this one!) It was a really good read, also so hot and filled with emotion. So can't wait for the next release in this series.

Oh goodness! Zane's book is one of the best of the series! Had me in tears!!! At times it kinda reminded me of Zsadist of BDB you know the whole tortured soul and the question of will love set them free?. Understanding Zane's past really helps you understand him on a whole new level. I always knew his stoy was going to be deep but I never realized how deep Ms. Folsom would take us. Can't wait for the next installment!! I'm hoping Thomas or Quinn will be up next! All I ask is the Ms. Folsom doesn't make me wait too long.

**4 1/2 stars**

Really liked this one a lot! Didn't so much care for Zane in past books..he was psycho and creepy, but in this book we find out why he's so "hardened" on life and people in general..it's very tragic and sad. Definitely changed my mind about him after reading his book! Great addition to the Scanguards Vampire series..looking forward to the next one! :)

I enjoyed Zane's Redemption. The hero definitely had a lot of issues he needed to get over and he was able to ask forgiveness from the heroine. Takes a big man to do that. I admit I had a pretty good idea where things were headed in the last half of the book, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment.

3.5 stars — And I’m finally onto a non-reread in this series, so this one was all brand-new for me! I’m not sure what I was expecting from Zane’s story, but it went into some different directions than I had been anticipating. At the same time I totally saw quite a few of the twists coming, and I grew impatient at times for those reveals to happen. Apparently patience is not *my* virtue.

I actually liked what happened with Zane’s character, but at the same time I had a hard time reconciling it with the truly sociopathic individual we were presented with in the previous books. Like, I got it to a degree, he was driven by hate and vengeance…but I didn’t feel like we got a good enough explanation for his almost glee for pain and violence. But maybe that was just me. My heart did hurt for what he’d been through, and the things we learned about his past though. And I was so angry with the other vampires for not seeing that there was more to him…seeing beneath his outer shell. But I loved that they tried to soften him with Z and stuff…that amused the heck out of me, even as I wanted to smack Zane for how he’d talk to the puppy sometimes.

Then we have Portia. I can’t decide how I feel about Portia. She was put into a very awkward position, and I empathized with what she was going through herself, and her struggle to go against what her father wanted for the first time in her life. But she was a serious brat towards Zane…she came across really young, even younger than almost 21. I got it, but it didn’t make me want to be friends with her or anything. I think she mellowed and became more likable at the end of the book though. And I sympathized with the crazy position she was put in with her family.

As per usual, there was a strong lust component between these characters. At least in this one we got to see a *bit* of a romance part at the cabin, but it’s still a love heavily predicated on lust and attraction. *shrugs*

I enjoyed the plot, but as I said I saw the twists coming and thus became impatient when things felt drawn out. There were a few bits of plot that I felt weren’t resolved to my liking, which was a bummer. I liked the glimpses of some different characters in this one, like Quinn and Oliver. I LOVED the little Isabelle story, though I kinda wished the last chapter had encapsulated the ceremony.

All in all this was a solid book in the series. I’m intrigued by the rest of the books, but likely not enough to pay full price for them. I’m currently trying to convince my library that they need copies. 😛

You know how in almost every series with immortal warriors out there there's one who is ready to go off the deap end? One who due to past torture or something tramautic has lost more of his humanity than others, in BDB it was Zsadist, in MB it was Tegan, in DH it was Zarek, etc. Well, that's what Zane is in this series, the wounded, sligtly feral one.

So, Zane...

Zane was just a little older than a teenager when he and his family were arrested and sent at a concentration camp. After surviving five years of torture in the hands of five mad scientists he escapes as a vampire and swears revenge for what was done to him but more impoortantly for what was done to his little sister. 60 years later, Zane is a different man than he was before his captivity, more cruel, a little more sadistic, feral in many situations and a lose canon one time too many according to his boss Samson. As his last chance to get his shit together Zane's charged with a low risk and low stress job, all he has to do is keep a 21 year old "party girl" in check for a few weeks but everything isn't what it seems.

And Portia...

Portia is a hybrid(half human, half vampire) and about to reach her 21st birthday which will be the day she will stop growing. Six weeks before her birthday she learns that if at 21 she is still a virgin she will remain one forever, doomed to experience the pain of "first time" every time she has sex. What hurts worse is that her father knew this but he still made her promise to keep away from boys until after college. Now she has six weeks to lose her virginity but she doesn't want to lose it to anybody, she wants to lose it to Zane, the bodyguard her father hired to make sure no one would get near her. But when Portia tries to explain the situation to Zane he won't believe her at first... After all what father would condemn his daughter to such fate?

After that we have the usual, they fall in love and then we have revelations, betrayals, talks of who is worthy of whom and who isn't, the known deal. Zane turns out to have a soft side, Portia turns out to be exactly what he needed but in order to be with her Zane will have to let go of his past, etc.

The book wasn't all that original story-wise but it was well written and interesting enough to keep you glued to your seat. In my opinion it was the best so far in the series. I liked both heroes and although once again I couldn't see the relationship development due to the "lightning quick love" I enjoyed their romance well enough.

I think my biggest complaint about the series after the lack of originality is that because of the speed with which the characters fall in love I fail to see the connection between the heroes. I know that this is supposed to show that it is "fate" but I don't find it satisfying enough.

So, 4 stars, maybe 4,5 at some points and fingers crossed for Quinn's book!

Zane is a vampire, a member of the Scanguards, he hears a woman in trouble, a woman being violated and saves her but when he sees the woman, he mutilates and tears her attackers apart, he is enraged by what they had done to the woman who resembles his little sister Rachel from his past, a very painful past. This act leads to him being downgraded in his class at the Scanguards and pulled off assignment as punishment, but is given the opportunity to redeem himself by being put in charge of guarding a hybrid vampire while her father is out of town. But thing just get more complicated for Zane with someone out to see him killed, the very person who destroyed his soul in the past, who made him what he is.

Portia is a hybrid vampire on the cusp of her twenty-first birthday and needs to find a man as soon as possible but not all goes to plan when her father finds out what she is up to and refuses to let her go through with it. He hires Zane under the pretences of stopping his daughter from doing anything against his will, not that Portia was going to just sit back and accept it, and she is determined to see through her plans, which gets all the more tempting when she lays eyes on Mr. Sexy and Delicious Zane. The heat between Portia and Zane is instant and she knows that she wants him to help her with what she needs to do, but Zane is reluctant, at first that is. When it comes to light the connection between Zane’s past and Portia it tears him apart and he pushed Portia away, but he eventually sees the light and is determined to get her back.

This as a great read, if you love The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward or the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian you are going to enjoy reading this one. I loved the characters, the tormented nature of Zane and Portia’s willingness to do what is right for her, to not be controlled and treated like property by her father. Lots of butt kicking action combined with steamy scenes that were perfectly written. I don’t think there was anything I didn’t like about this book, it was brilliant, loved it from start to finish.

*Warning: possible spoilers ahead.*

By far my favorite in the series and neck and neck with Amaury as my favorite vamp. I didn’t think much of Zane in the previous books but after reading his story, OMG! Tina completely out did herself.

Zane is a hard ass, no emotion vamp. His dark past only hinted upon in previous books in the series, but you never truly knew what his pain was caused from. A pain so deep he is incapable of love, giving or receiving. Completely closed off.

I don’t want to give any spoilers for those who haven’t read it yet but what I will say, Zane’s story was amazing! There is romance, revenge, adventure, and history. It is a wonderful story and Tina should be applauded for bringing a human element to Zane and making us all fall in love with him!

“When I’m near you, I can feel you in here.”
She pressed her hand against her heart.
“And when you’re gone, there’s an emptiness there. And it hurts. and the pain only goes away when you’re close again. Tell me, Zane, tell me what that is.”
~ Portia ~

Now that I am done foaming at the mouth over Zane -

I was looking forward to this installment of the series but never thought it would be this good. The passion and emotion are well portrayed and the reader is drawn into the story and the character’s lives. The plot is full of action and suspense. The relationship between Zane and Portia is red hot. All the characters from the previous books are fully involved. Plus a few new characters I hope will be featured as the series progresses. I can hardly wait for the next book!

The next Scanguards book will be Quinn, who we met in Zane’s Redemption, however, we’ll most likely have to wait until late Spring /early Summer. Tina is working on developing a new paranormal series and hopes to release the first book of it in early Spring. This is exciting news and I am looking forward to it.

“Yes, baby girl. I’ll wait until you’re ready, until you know for sure that you want me. Because once you say yes, I’ll never let you go.”
