A lone body with a bullet hole. No possible motive. A grieving mate. A distraught colleague. These are the elements that make up the mystery surrounding the death of the world famous Palm Springs Tramway's chief maintenance technician. Detective Henry Wright stays close to home in Palm Springs to solve this mystery that is impossible to explain. The 3rd book in the Henry Wright Mystery Series.
This book started out differently than the other books in that one of the major characters from the previous books is the starting narrator. I was kind of nervous about this, and it actually set off a warning bell for me--I was afraid that this person was going to be the next victim because that is how the author has started all the previous books. Thankfully, that did not turn out to be the case. This book read a lot faster than previous books because I found myself kind of speed reading and moving ahead in the story due to the fact that it focus a lot more on the love story part of the plot instead of the actual mystery. That was a disappointment in this story. The story even ends on this point.
I feel like the author is moving away from the actual solving of mysteries and trying to turn the series into more of a cozy-love interest series. I'm not sure I really like that aspect all that well. Im thinking maybe it's time to retire the series and move on to something else. However I have one more book in the series and I plan on reading it and I will keep my final judgment to myself until that time.
Not a bad book over all. If this was the first book I read in the series I would've liked it a lot more, but knowing what the previous books were like and then reading this one, I just didn't enjoy it as much.
I started this while I was in Palm Springs, so that was kind of fun... But so far this was my least favorite of Simon's Henry Wright books... I like Henry, although he's a bit prudish and Charles and his dog are my favorite characters by far. The mystery in this one was pretty lame... It was too predicable and, well let's face it, boring! I will give the other two books I haven't read a chance but hopefully they will be an improvement!
Liked learning about the area & liked the characters. Didn't like the homosexual issue being shoved down my throat. I'm not a homophobe, I just like to make up my own mind about things & I hate issues being shoved down my throat especially when I taking time off from & just want some down time to rest & relax.
Hated the ending. The book leads you up to the ending and then boom it ends and the details are scant. It felt like such a blunt ending since the beginning of the book was so long and detailed. Some of the details of Henry's relationship with Gloria or getting the house ready could have been left out and more added to the ending instead...
