Family scripture study provides great opportunities for teaching and building testimonies but it can be a real challenge. ''We don't have time.'' ''Our kids are bored.'' ''It's the same old thing every day.'' If you have met these common obstacles, Scripture Study for Latter-day Saint Families can help you overcome them all. Parents will thrill as they discover the many helpful and exciting tools in these activities, object lessons, stories, discussion questions, quotations, and insights that will help them lead their families through the Book of Mormon. Simply review the material for the chapter or verses you are studying and select those teaching ideas you think would be most helpful to your family.
Our family started reading this commentary as part of our family scripture study, but we really stalled out. We kept wanting to focus on other things, whether it was general conference reports or seminary reading lists. We just aren't enjoying it, and my children have outgrown many of the juvenile suggested activities (role play, props, games, for example, "Invite each family member to build something...next, take turns rolling a ball at each others' creations...") and even the level of the commentary provided. With my youngest now being 14, I think we are no longer the target audience for Scripture Study for Latter-Day Saint Families.
Still, I feel I've read enough to provide an accurate review. I loved Leavitt's volume on the Doctrine and Covenants with its historical tidbits and useful details, but The Book of Mormon doesn't lend itself to the same type of background information. Still, if I had little kids this book I could make use of the many many ideas for making the scriptures more interesting and understandable. 4 stars.
LOVE LOVE LOVE these books!!!!!! I use them for my own personal study, for FHE (for all ages) and also when teaching seminary. I can't wait for the Old Testament one to come out (I hope they have one in the works at least)
I am rereading this because it is such a great companion to my Book of Mormon study. I love the additional insights it brings out and the ways it helps me see how the BoM can apply directly to my life. Such a great resource!
We are currently using this book during our family study, and the children beg each night to have scripture study! They remind me, which takes a lot of pressure off :)
A good book, adaptable to family situations to get more out of the Book of Mormon as a family. Good for teaching primary age children, but also teens, seminary students and even with grown up children. Though some activities might seem more for a younger audience. Also great for enhancing your lessons in church!
This study guide was good, and complimented well other things I was doing. They have studies for other books of scripture may have to try them at some point.
This book is exactly what our family needed. Instead of sitting and somewhat listening, the kids are engaged and interested. It breaks up the Book of Mormon into small segments and gives you creative and varied ways to teach your children the valuable lessons therein. I love it!
this is the perfect companion for our daily scripture study. helps make the younger kids stay interested, and is a springboard for discussion with the older kids. our scripture study has improved so much with this resource.
Absolutely love htis book - it is making family scripture study so much easier - just have to get the kids up and then do a few verses. It is great!!!!
This is a wonderful resource for family scripture study and family home evening! Seems very adaptable to all age groups and attention spans. We are looking forward to really getting into it.
Excellent companion volume for an in-depth (and fun) family scripture study of The Book of Mormon. We learned a lot as a family studying this together.
I've looked through a library coy of this book, it loos excellent. I might have to get a copy of my own, or try it more thoroughly form the library again.
