Christians are called to model a way of life that challenges the status quo and infuses the world with hope and possibility. We are to be people who see possibility where others see failure, beauty where others see ugliness and freedom where others see chains.
This is the Upside Down Kingdom, where the forgotten are noticed, the silenced are given back their voice and love is stronger than hate.
By exploring the teaching of Jesus, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, Malcolm Duncan in Flipped traces the key components of this new community, this life-giving way of living. He explores the five key discourses in Matthew and invites us to a radical new way of living and being centred around the reign and the rule of King Jesus.
The message of The Upside Down Kingdom is one that our churches need to hear - that God's Kingdom is unshakeable, local churches are its vanguard and Christians are its citizens. Flipped paints a vision of what is possible when ordinary people catch a glimpse of God's radical call to follow the Lord Jesus.
I was led to it by a dream of the author pastorally counselling & teaching me. I had been increasingly angry about my illness, disability & confinement. Let us say things had come to a head!
It is a book for the broken, the hurting & those in need of God's pastoral heart. It is for the marginalised by society, that they may see the inherent value & calling that God's Kingdom infers on the very least.
I chose a five star rating because it flows in the riches of Papa God's grace & in His encouraging. I rarely finish books due to fatigue, cognitive issues & double vision. But, I was gripped by God's perspective through Jesus Christ love for the marginalised in society & how His Words & actions aligned. Flipped brings the Light of Christ's ministry through those who have carried the flame on in multifaceted Wisdom.
This book a great book to read with a church small group. It challenges and feeds the soul. It has provoked lovely conversations and to do further study/thought
