Relying on her deep infiltration tactics, Chase disappears into the darkness of the underworld… the dungeon where dragons roam.

She discovers a startling secret… a secret that could send the whole economy into a tailspin.

Know what a neobank is? I didn’t either until reading this book. Wonderful characters, and a complex plot with enough financial and techno data to keep you spinning. (And questioning trusting too much in computer data manipulation.)

Excellent Storytelling!

by Barbara Kelley

Chasing Dragons is Book 3 in the Heather Chase FBI series, written by A. W. Kaylen. Book 3 starts off with the return of Agent Bob "Bookman" Fairfax, and his point-of-view. He was severely injured, and almost killed, in Book 1 of the series. So was out baby-faced, every loving police officer. However, they are both back to work. Bob is a computer and by the book genius in solving crimes. The current deprive up for grabs is the cyber theft of $250 million dollars in bank funds that have simply vanished, having been siphoned in small inconsequential amounts that aren't noticeable until a quarter of a billion is gone. The most likely suspect is the bank manager who has also vanished without a trace. But did he run off with the money? Or has he possibly been murdered and buried, letting the real culprit get away with the crime. Bob needs a partner, and the last one he ever wants again in Heather Chase, a woman that no FBI agent wants as a partner, let alone anywhere in the FBI Headquarters' building. However, Heather is a woman who may go rogue, but always winds up getting her man or woman criminal. She has a keen knack for solving crimes because she has a paranormal psychic empath ability to become her perpetrator, knowing all their thoughts. This ability heightened when she was kidnapped and held captive, along with several other children, when she was 10 years old. There were both serious and funny parts in this story. One of the funny scenes was when Heather was in a car chase to apprehend the perp, and our baby-faced cop, Steve, was trying to get Heather to go on a date with him. I laughed so hard that I almost had an accident in my recliner. I gave this book 5 stars, but it deserved more.

I received a copy to read via booksprout, and this is my voluntary honest review.

If you have read Dirt Dealers (the prequel), Silent Witness (book 1), and Frozen Justice (book 2) of this series, you already know how addictive these books are. You will also have become avid fans of Heather Chase and “Bookman.” If you’ve read and loved those tales of Heather Daring Do, this one will put you in orbit. If you’re anything like me, you’ve been wondering about Heather’s past. Her early life, the life that she has only hinted at in earlier books. In Chasing Dragons, Heather shares what happened to her that led her to become the woman we know as Special Agent Heather Chase, and Kaylen does it in such a way that it fits in with the story line and doesn’t come across sounding like an info dump.

Like all the books in this amazing new series, the story advances like an uncontrolled nuclear reaction, like a nuclear reactor in meltdown. These truly are character driven stories, characters that truly are unpredictable, as unpredictable as the denouement of each tale. All these books will keep you glued to your seat, burning through the pages, but the ending to Chasing Dragons is so powerful, so intense, you’re apt to be pulling your hair out. The ending will leave you breathless.

I can’t wait to see what Heather and Bookman do in Hunting C-60. Fortunately, I won’t have to wait long, because I already have it in my digital library.

What an Amazing Story!
FBI Special Agent Heather Chase has to really be on her toes in this continuation of her adventures. She has to follow many things, and realizes in the middle, that she really likes Bob the Bookman. She goes from trying to find out why a neobank has FDIC backing, to trying to figure out WHO is actually at the head or top of the ownership of this bank. During this, she is following leads to the Triad, and then there is the Dragons in Chinatown, and who actually put their money into the bank? She realizes after being up for way to many hours, that as the driver drops her off to her place, she is being followed... Why? By Whom?
This was a Really good continuation of Heather Chase's story, which would be good as a standalone, but is Much Better when read in order.
Thank you A.W. Kaylen, for sharing your story!
I was provided a complimentary copy of this story, and this is my honest review.

Heather Chase takes on an enigmatic foe.

Chasing Dragons, the third offering in A. W. Kaylen’s Heather Chase FBI series is just as action packed as its predecessors and the underlying storyline is one replete with fraud and deception. While I have been reading this series out of order due to reading the fourth book first, I’ve found that each book could very well be a stand-alone story, but in my case going back and reading the earlier books in the series has provided a broader context to Heather and her motivations as well as her unique talents. Now that I’ve gotten caught up on the series, I’m anxiously awaiting the fifth book in the series.
If you enjoy action packed police procedural thrillers with characters who are flawed yet able to function at a high level, you might give the Heather Chase FBI series a chance- I would suggest starting with Silent Witness though just to make your experience more enjoyable.

I'm enjoying the Heather Chase FBI series. I don't often read FBI/investigation stories, but I think I need to change that. All 3 of these books became total binge reads for me! I'm enjoying the gritty investigation plots. Heather is a skilled investigator who doesn't always follow the rules, and ends up with totally twisted cases.

Chasing Dragons delves down into a dark underworld fueled by greed, lies and corruption. As Heather infiltrates into this world, she discovers some very dangerous secrets.

Another complex and suspenseful plot! This one had some real surprises in store for me. Plenty of investigation, shady suspects and twisted surprises. I really enjoyed it!

This story really makes the digital world of banking seem shady and scary. Loved every word!

I will definitely continue reading this series! I can't wait to find out what Heather Chase investigates next!

Special Agent Heather Chase and Bob Fairfax are on another thrilling adventure into the world of Bing and the Triads when a supposed Bank robbery occurred with no leads and that in it self is suspicious. Chase and Fairfax get some information and acquire additional information that leads to questions ASAC Holden isn't answering their questions and the higher ups don' want answered. Chase and Fairfax are told to back off the case or suffer the consequences so Agent Chase did what some expected and left others scratching their heads. Life and death thriller. A insane story line and the characters were great some over the top more than others. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

In book 3 of the Heather Chase FBI series, the star of the show (besides Heather) is technology. With the rise of AI and how I have learned that it can learn, some of the scenarios presented here are a little scary in their accuracy. What seems like a simple bank robbery on the surface turns out to be so much more with international intrigue, secret societies and a neobank. Agent Fairfax is back and we learn a little more about him in this story, it turns out he's really not so bad, just methodical, which comes in handy with this case because there is a lot to follow to get to what's actually happening.

These books can be read as standalones, but are so good you should read them in order and read them all! They read quickly because you can't put them down for wanting to see what is going to happen next.

Banks fail. Get used to it. Sometimes the government will assume control of a failed bank in order to protect some (or all) of the depositors, but sometimes the bank is allowed to go under. In such a case, those who got in early enough during the "run" may have been able to get their money out. When a bank is large (as was the case with the Silicon Valley Bank), many accounts are too large for the FDIC's insurance to cover the losses. Those "in the know" would close their accounts quickly ... and may themselves be the cause of a run and financial collapse. Heather Chase was like most depositors, ignorant about the artificial and transitory digital "value" of a bank's holdings - but she had to learn quickly.

This was an intense suspense, thriller, action, crime novel. Chase and Bob are back again fighting crime together in their own special way. Chase is all grit and Bob is all book. This time they are trying to solve a neobank robbery. The more they look into the robbery, the more the trail becomes complex and confusing. It was a little hard to follow some of the "geek" banking speak, but not enough to overcome the intent of the story. Chase and Bob seem like an unlikely pair to fight crime, but they each bring a specific skill set that works well to solve the crimes. Interesting showdown at the end. Likable characters and a good story.

This book had everything you would want in a thriller: suspense, mysterious characters and law enforcement officials determined to put evildoers behind bars. FBI Special Agent Heather Chase is once again teamed up with FBI Agent Bob Fairfax to find out what happened to a quarter of a million dollars which disappeared from a Long Island bank. The bank's CEO, Frank Lehrman, has also disappeared. Will Chase and Fairfax be able to retrieve the money and find Lehrman? Find out by reading this gripping book. I highly recommend it to other thriller readers.

Financial Shenanigans

When a quarter of a million dollars is lost without a trace Bob and Heather realize they are chasing ghosts as the head of the corporation does not seem to exist. Who is behind the scam and how can Heather prevent a financial catastrophe of massive proportion. A thriller with nail biting suspense.

Another great book from this author. The story moved right along. The characters are very realistic. While it wasn't as gritty and intense as the last book, it was still a very good read. I highly recommend reading this series.

Very enlightening

This was so good. Not quite as intense as book two but every bit as mystifying. I know it is fiction but in the current state of things in the world I can very easily see this story as a real scenario. I look forward to book 4 to see what adventures are next for Agent Chase.

Chasing Dragons

Wasn’t impressed. Didn’t really care about the characters, good or bad. Interesting plot idea that kept me going. Didn’t care for the writing style. You shouldn’t use 50 words when 10 would do. Many times an entire long paragraph was only one sentence. Lots of references to past history also. Will not be reading anymore by this author. Not recommended.

Bob is back and Chase has been called in to help with a big bank heist. Should be a great book but I just could not get into this one. Just too much minute details that drug me away from the overall story.

Another Heather Chase Adventure

I enjoyed reading this Heather Chase story. It was perfectly laid out to make it understandable even though it was quite a complicated and baffling case. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

I think this is a nail in the coffin for this series for me. It was too all over the place with nothing of substance to hold onto. The only redeeming parts were the last 20% where things actually seemed to happen and make sense.
