I just LOVE when people are inspired by another work but they go "What if it was like this?" so they end up giving you a book with similar feels but with its own flare and extra touch (not copy/paste)

It is clear that this book had the A Court of Thornes and Roses as its bases for inspiration, however, the author managed to bring her own plotlines and character arcs.

⚜Theme: High Fantasy - Quest
⚜TW: slavery, torture, sex-slaves
⚜ tropes: slow-burn, fated mates
⚜ spice 🌶 at the end
⚜ rating 🌟🌟🌟🌟
⚜ ending: cliffhanger

So as I said, this series draws many things from ACOTAR
- The teenage girl destined to save the courts
- There are courts that are falling under the rule of a tyrant
- The inner circle
- The handsome Lord who wields shadows and thought at first to be the bad guy
- Mating bonds
- The cruel Lady of the Court of Lust who wishes to enslave everyone
- a riddle to be solved to break a certain curse and restore peace
- One-person POV

All this is fine and amazing. We are supposed to be inspired. After all, Sir Isaac Newton said "We stand on the shoulders of Giants"
BUT, and this is a biiiiig but, you HAVE TO BRING YOUR OWN

and here is where this series differs majorly from Acotar:

- The teenage girl destined to save the courts - She is originally from the magic realm and raised in the human world. No siblings. She knew something was different about her and that is why she accepted immediately that she has magic.
- There are courts that are falling under the rule of a tyrant. The courts represent the 7 sins. The world is supposedly formed by THE ORIGIN who created everything.
- The inner circle. There are no bat wings but diverse characters with different abilities. There are Obeah Man from Jamaican folklore, a shifter from the Amazon, and a bunch of demons.
- The handsome Lord who wields shadows and is thought at first to be the bad guy. Well, maybe he is closest to Rhysand but his physical description is different. He has silver hair and green eyes.
- Mating bonds mostly between Raven and Amon. But there are other kinds of bonds that bind two persons together and not sexually.
- The cruel Lady of the Court of Lust who wishes to enslave everyone. Like Amarantha, but whereas I somehow understood Amarantha's actions, Ash Nevra is pure Evil. She revels in gaining power over others
- a riddle to be solved to break a certain curse and restore peace. This one, in my opinion, is better. ACOTAR's riddle was a joke tbh. This one, though not mysterious, held more depth and connection
-One-person POV. Acotar was in the third person while this one had the first person. But, I still hold my opinion that a Romance fantasy should not be one-sided in its POV.

Also, I saw that Conrad was beautifully depicted. I enjoyed reading his dialogue in the Jamaican accent. I do not see why some other reviews considered this racist?????? why? cause the author is white???? you ask for diversity but when they do it you call them racist? this is stupid
do you know what I saw as racist? a reviewer said that she did not need to read Conrad's dialogue in his accent and that they should be in plain English. THIS IS RACIST.

I loved Rycon's development and redemption. How he turned from being a jerk to a hero. I wished we had his POV especially since he developed a crush on Kesha
and Kesha? I won't write on her cause my heart is broken for what she endured and what happened to her in the end.
I cannot wait for book 3 to come out

As I said in book 1, the writing is simple and understandable without too much going into details. This is perfect for those who want to get into the Fantasy genre.

So here is my criticism now and why I deducted a star lower from book 1

as I mentioned, Romance Fantasy or any kind of romance should not be, in my opinion, one-sided. We need to believe that the feelings are mutual between the two parties. To have the other character tell you their feelings somehow diminishes the effect.
Book 1 had no Romance what so ever, so it was OK to have Raven's POV only. Not so here.
Although the book did a decent job depicting Amon's feelings towards Raven, it was Raven's feelings that felt short. I did not feel her affection and love for Amon. She would blush and turn to do something else. But suddenly she is in love with him?!

The final battle! What? but Raven made the wrong choice
you are the Hero! you do not choose the demise of entire kingdoms and people for one person!

All in all, great series, loved it

That ending. Excuse me. 😱

Believe me when I say that this series is the cure the any ACOTAR series hangover you may be suffering from. Book one (The Origin’s Daughter) was so good and had great world building and character development. Was a 5 star read. But BOOK TWO 😱 The Dominion of Sin was an AMAZING sequel and it picked up right where book one ended. Our FMC Raven is taken to the Court of Pride by our morally grey daemon Prince Amos, to whom she owes a life debt. Throw in some forced proximity, enemies to lovers, and a found family that gives the best inner circle vibes, and you’d got the makings of a book that will immediately go on your favorites list. There is a cliffhanger, but please don’t let that deter you from picking these up. They are a DELIGHT.

Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book had me hooked just the same as the first in the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Let me just start this off with:
THE WORLD BUILDING of this book is phenomenal. The images she portrays are beautiful and crisp. From the smells, the palaces, to the ray of sunshine peeking through the canopy. 10/10!

The ROMANCE:
She does it just right with the perfect amount of plot and romance ratio. Enough to make you swoon, but not take away from the storyline. It is the perfect subplot.

AMON, 😩🥵 THE PERFECT BOOK BOYFRIEND, but let’s not forget RYCON with his snappy comebacks, and redemption that was beautifully done.

This book really kept me on the edge of my seat with its twists and turns, but also made me sob uncontrollably. You feel so much for each and every one of the characters. You RELATE to these characters, and I am so excited to see where their story leads from here! 10/10!

Review 4.5 stars!

It’s not often I like a sequel more than the first book but this was the case here!! 😍 The slow burn enemies to lovers reminded me so much of ACOMAF which is also my favorite book of the ACOTAR series. Watch out for spoilers below if you haven’t read book 1!

Dominion of Sin starts right after the events of book 1, The Origin’s Daugther. Raven is taken to the Court of Pride by Prince Amon… a morally gray daemon who she owes a life debt to. This series is perfect for fans of forced proximity together with enemies to lovers (the ultimate trope). Raven, alongside Conrad, Meredith, Kasha, Dossidian, Amon and Rycon must follow the Eye’s vision to bring the items together and awaken the Origin. This unlikely group of characters reminded me so much of the inner circle and gave off warm found family feelings ❤️I had total Amarantha vibes from Ash Nevra 👀 also even though I was so angry at Rycon for his betrayal I was always looking forward to the scenes where he appears! A great sequel to an addictive series!

Where the frick do I start with this one...

I LOVED this book. The first book in this series was great, I really enjoyed it. But I am fucking feral over the second book in the series.

It's giving enemies to lovers, it's giving slooow burn, it's giving found family unit, it's giving morally grey dark prince MMC who would burn the entire fucking world to the GROUND to fight for his woman. Prince Amon has Phil Dunphy "if you ever speak disrespectfully again about my wife I will kill you" energy and I'm here. for. it.

This has:
- plot and substance
- character growth/development
- steam and spice
- twists and turns
- a straight up nail-biting cliffhanger ending (rude, Alex.)

If you love fantasy romance and want something engrossing enough that you'll absolutely have a book hangover afterwards and won't know what to reach for on your shelf next because you can't stop thinking about Raven, Amon, Rycon, and the rest of the gang... Look no further.

*cries in the third book isn't out yet*

WOW…I’m am absolutely feral for this book!! I was literally thrown into a different realm and forgot I was even reading. Raven and her badass self is perfect as usual and AMON ugh he makes me blush 24/7… the slow burn was really BURNING! I enjoyed every second of it. That cliffhanger ending tho??? I am not okay and I will not be until the 3rd book comes out. 😩

Quotes where Amon is well…AMEN: 🤤

“I would burn this world to the ground, before I parade you in front of her as some sort of broken slave.”

“How about, if you win, I will kiss you anywhere you want… for as long as you want?”

“Fine. And if you win?”

“Then I get to kiss you anywhere that I want… for as long as I want”

“When I take you to my bed, Raven, I don’t want there to be any chance that you will forget one second of the pleasure I plan to bring you. When I take you to my bed, I want you to remember every single stroke, every scream and every shiver.” EXCUSE ME??🤤

I really don’t want to sound like a dick here… But I’m going to. How can a story with this many problems even get published? The writing style is a nightmare! How did no one in the entire publication process not know the difference between “to” and “too”?? “A book of pros”??? There are countless, incredibly distracting basic linguistic errors littered throughout the story. And possibly the worst paragraph ever published, copied and pasted directly from my Kindle: “She pulled the stopper from her aura, you beg for death as you and I felt it wash over me in a hot rush of sex. The contrast from Amon’s cold aura was breathtaking. Both would kill you, but only one would make moaned the reaper's name.” WHAT? HOW did that get published? I really enjoyed the characters, and the world was somewhat fun despite being mostly unexplored. The plot, however, was so predictable that it stripped all the fun out of it. The villains are one-dimensional and boring, the “morally grey hottie character” is bland and boring and generic as all hell, and the love story was not only boring and unconvincing but downright creepy and utterly unbelievable. I didn’t love Amon, not for a second. The rules of the world and powers of the characters changed constantly depending on what was most convenient for the story. I’m sorry for the stream of criticism. I can understand enjoying this story because I understand what it was trying to be (ahem, ACOMAF). I enjoyed the “found family” element, but Raven is honestly so dumb that I sort of feel like she doesn’t deserve anything that happens to her. Take away her anger and her character is nothing at all. This was such an incredibly unsatisfying read, I’m giving it one star and I am just grateful that it was free on KU.

I give up, dnf at page 160. It’s basically ACOMAF but with demons. It was marketed as enemies to lovers (it 100% is not enemies to lovers). The fmc is 17 and the mmc is like over 300.. No.

Shame because I enjoyed the first book in series but I think the author should have tried less to make this like ACOMAF (which is also what it was marketed as on social media) and been a bit more original because it came across like bad fan-fiction

Both books are on kindle unlimited if anyone wants to give it a try💫

THE DOMINION OF SIN delivers on many of the promises of the first book. If its predecessor felt more like an urban fantasy, this one leans fully into the fantasy element with more found family, more slow burn enemies to lovers, and just a sprinkle of spice. If you’re a fan of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and want something similar, look no further! This is the series for you.

Once again, the highlight for me was the characters. It was so nice to reconnect with the babies from the first book—yes, especially Rycon, who remains my favorite—but I also loved the seamless introduction of new characters to the group and exploring more of Amon and his world. I knew he would be reserving surprises, and indeed, he did! His history and his dedication to Raven reminded me so much of Rhysand, Feyre and their beautiful bond. If you love that couple, those vibes are here! Raven herself went through such incredible character development. She’s come a long way from the sheltered outcast of the first book and is turning into a true queen!

Admittedly, I found this particular installment to be a tad predictable. I loved all the twists that happened and all the discoveries made about the world and the characters that propel the plot forward, but I was able to guess all the big reveals before they happened, and this took a bit of the excitement away. Nevertheless, this was an amazing sequel and I am very curious to see what comes next!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy! Opinions are my own.

Umm, excuse me?! That ending?! This book took me for a RIDE. This is the kind of book that when you’re reading it, you forget about the real world and your mind lives in this beautiful fantasy world 😍

The slow burn between Raven and Amon in this book was so perfectly executed. The friendship between the main characters and their teamwork throughout the book was beautiful.
When Raven wakes up on the other side of the veil in the court of pride she doesn’t know what to think, or how to deal with her grief. Amon, Dossidian, Kasha, and Rycon slowly train and teach Raven how to use her power. They go on missions to find the 3 items that will help lead them to their end goal of awakening The Origin. I loved everything about this book. The story building and character development was phenomenal.
I need book 3 immediately!!!
Amon, my man, you really have a way with words 🧎‍♀️

“I would burn this world to the ground, before I parade you in front of her as some sort of broken slave.”

“I will spend the rest of my life working to become someone worthy of being loved by you.”

“Do not make the mistake of thinking these scars make you any less beautiful. When I look at you, I see a fierce female who is powerful enough to survive the spell that causes these scars. And Raven.. there is nothing that excites me more than the thought of watching, as you bring those responsible to their knees.”

A Thirst for Vengeance

The crew coming together as a found family isa really nice element to the second instalment of this series. Amon and Raven’s growing bond brings the slow burn of the first book to life within this story of Raven finding herself with the constant support of Amon. Their quest to find the items needed allows for all of their bonds to solidify.

Yes I can see the elements of other books in Alexandra’s writing that others have commented on, but I didn’t feel it detracted from the journey of our main characters, in fact it was nice to find familiar elements told from a different perspective. I absolutely loved this book - after that cliffhanger of an ending you’ll be reaching for book three immediately, as I’m about to do.

So much!

There was so much that happened in this book that I had to remind myself how is started and everything Raven went through! I will have to say though that the ending chapters she chose wrong, yes it would have broke her but greater good- any war room would’ve gone with Amon and heck even the one on the line’s choice, now has to suffer. Has what she wanted but at the cost, oh the cost! Ugh heartbreaking and now can’t stop and need next book! Even though disagreed with decision it was a good story!

I thought this series couldn’t get better after the first book… Well, I was proven wrong.

It has everything I’m looking for in a book - slowburn enemies to lovers, angst, found family, powerful MC… 🔥

I loved every second of it! 🫶

Contains Spoilers

Book two of The Origins Daughter series.

With The Origins Daughter left on a huge cliffhanger of Raven passing through The Veil. I jumped straight into this second book as soon as I finished the first and boy Alexandra did not disappoint!

My heart broke so much for Raven in the ending of the first book knowing first hand the exact rage and upset of losing her mother. With the beginning of book 2, you expierence Raven going through all the emotions of grief and nightmares taking her back to the exact moment she wish she could erase from her memory. Raven now finds herself over The Veil and in one of the many bedrooms of Prince Amon’s home wondering how her life will now play out in this new world with these new powers but also the thought of leaving her father Jeremy behind.

I can’t describe how captivating this book is. If you want a book that has you physically laughing, crying, gasping and talking to yourself out loud. This is definitely it! I love how every character plays such a huge part to the point the book would be nothing without them! Introducing a few new characters although appear in the ending of the first book, being Dossidian and Kasha who are so badass you fall in love with them instantly. Ash Nevra and Kieran fueled me with such a rage my heart was pounding in the Great Hall scene! There are also some other amazing new characters that helps fill back stories to our already very well known family and I love how everyone of them help with such an important part of this book! I can’t describe how much I LOVE Amon and Raven together, so heartwarming and don’t we all just love a little bit of spice, I know I do! Haha Extremely well written!

With the ending literally making me scream “NOOO” out loud, im so so excited for book 3 and can’t wait to see Raven KICK SOME ASS!

I absolutely devoured this book! It’s even more fast paced, has heavier fantasy elements, and has higher stakes than The Origin’s Daughter. Love the reluctant allies, found family, and slow burn romance!!! All kinds of tucking hair behind ears and hands brushing-type moments which I just adore!
I also appreciated that this book heavily focuses on PTSD and trauma recovery.
There’s more world building and quests which immersed me into the story (particularly loved the group’s trip into the Amazon!).
Some plot twists I saw coming… and some slapped me in the face! The cliff hanger ahhhh!!!! Can’t wait for book 3!

The journey continues for Raven & her supernatural gang, but this time it's set mainly across the veil in the Origin. This fantasy book is full of romance, adventure, suspense, humor & there is definitely some more some spice this time. The ending will leave you screaming for the next book....enjoy!!!!

Do not read this book if you care about grammar and spelling. I do not understand how this made it through editing with so many errors. It’s almost every single sentence. Very distracting from the storyline. Speaking of, the plot is obvious and poorly developed and leaves nothing to the imagination. The romance feels like it’s randomly dropped in. No slow burn, just awkwardly added in with no real development to get there. I had to force myself to finish it. Not at all comparable to ACOTAR like it is considered to be on social media.

The sequel to The Origin’s Daughter (which was a 5 ⭐️book for me,) and I loved this one even more. So much happened, there was incredible character growth from our FMC, and especially Rycon, our bad boy that we love to hate. If you loved A Court of Mist and Fury, I think you will love The Dominion of Sin. I am counting down the days until book 3 comes out. I highly recommend this fantasy romance.

Spoiler-free review. Just finished this today. Much like the first book, I could not stop reading it. I already felt a deep connection to these characters when I started but now they are like family. I went on this wild ride with them. Alex has a way of grounding the fantasy in reality in a way that is so easy to connect to and invest in. The personal journey the FMC goes through while experiencing this magical adventure hit me at times out of nowhere and touched pieces of my soul I didn’t realize were raw. I had to stop and have a cathartic cry on multiple occasions. It was almost therapeutic. I am rooting for these characters and you will too. The plot is more fast-paced in this second installment and you really get a more in-depth look at this literary universe she’s built. The romance really kicks into high-gear in this book as the relationships between the characters evolve and grow and there is so much sweetness and passion and heat and tenderness and vulnerability. It’s got it all. Similar to the first book there are familiar elements that are almost expected in a fantasy-adventure story which makes it approachable to new readers of the genre and comfortable to those familiar with it, but they’re presented in a fresh, exciting way. There is not a dull moment in this book and I am dying to see what happens next. Will re-read this one for sure!

NOTE: for parents or those concerned about content, there is some mild language sprinkled here and there but nothing crazy and there are elements of adventure- so there is violence, action, ‘monsters’ etc. if you let your kids read Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, then they’d be fine with this. and there is a love story within the greater plot so there will be sexual innuendos and situations/language but I would be comfortable recommending this to a teen reader. Younger would just depend on how open you are with your kids about that- my mom would’ve let me read this at any age and just been there to answer any questions.

Just like with The Origin’s Daughter, putting down The Dominion of Sin once I started reading was nearly impossible! This author has a talent for writing a captivating and addicting story that you want to read as quickly as possible, and that’s especially true with this book, which is perfect for fans of enemies to lovers!

While there are many important reveals that move the plot forward, this book was more focused on the characters, and I was extremely happy with this. It was great to reconnect with the characters I was already familiar with and learn more about them—especially Rycon’s past! But the cast of characters grows now that the story has shifted to Amon’s court, and getting to know his inner circle and seeing them merge so seamlessly into the found family dynamic was wonderful. I especially loved Kasha’s interactions with Rycon, and hope to get more of this power duo in the next book!

Best part though? Amon and Raven. I knew these two had a lot in store for readers, but never did I expect to get the sort of soul deep connection that brought me back to my ACOMAF days. Amon is a character full of layers, with a heartbreaking past and the capacity of great darkness to protect those he loves, but also a tenderness that made me weak in the knees. His support of Raven and his fierce, beautiful love for her…I love them together! Amon definitely made the book boyfriends list.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

If you're a fan of slow burn stories with beautiful character development, then the second book in this series is definitely worth checking out. The investment in the characters and the depth of the plot make it well worth the read.

By the end of the book, I felt like I knew each of the characters intimately - like they were old friends I had known for years. The way the author weaves their individual stories together is nothing short of masterful, and the romance that develops between them is one of the book's many highlights.

But it's not just the characters that make this book such a joy to read - it's the thought and detail that has gone into every aspect of the plot. From the world-building to the intricate twists and turns of the storyline, every aspect of this book is well thought-out and expertly executed.

i think i can officially say that this book is going to have a special place in my heart. seeing raven and how she healed from the trauma she experienced while still acknowledging that she will never be the same person again is something that brought tears to my eyes.

don’t even get me started on amon because that man can kidnap me and i would say thank you very much.

but seriously, this book healed my heart after the first one broke it. at least until it tore my heart back into two pieces. excuse me while i go cry for the next few months until the third book is released.

I saw this author promote her series on BookTok and bought it on a whim. Reviews said you had to get through the first book, and the second and third were more amazing, but jeez, the first book hooked me in quickly. I read it in a day and was hooked within the first few pages.

The Dominion of Sin was just as easy to read and continued to sink into my bones. I reread scenes that warmed my heart and wanted to scream and throw the book at times, but DAMM. I am still not sure I have words for just how this book made me feel and how amazing it is written.

Another 4 star read!
I need book 3, I physically could not put this book down. Things kept happening that had me on the edge of the seat and impossible to let go.

I honestly can’t forgive the author for that ending I did not see that coming. I can’t wait to see how raven handles everything.

I really loved the found family trope, they all complimented each other so well. They balance each other out which they so need.

I struggled to put this down.
I loved the storyline and how it picked right up from where the last book finished. So excited for the next one to come out

The first book was a lot more world building, while the second book had a lot more character development and relationships evolved.
I love Amon, I can definitely relate to Ravens backstory and I love the back stories and details you find out about the rest of the characters.

Strong found family, fated mates, slow burn energy.
Bummed this ends on a cliffhanger but I cannot wait until the next book comes out.

This book made me feel things I never thought a book would make me feel again after A Court of Mist and Fury!
As in book 1 it is wonderfully written! So invested in Raven….what’s going to happen next? Her description of characters and places are so beautifully described that you can actually visualize it so well, and not to point of dragging on. The author keeps you at the edge of your seat with the action and all her characters are diverse and interesting in their own special way! Loved this book! This is the sequel to the Origin’s Daughter. I must say i had so much fun reading both books but absolutely loved this one. I got pretty attached to the characters, and wasn’t expecting to get through the book as quickly as I did. The story was so interesting and I was pleasantly surprised to find a little spice sprinkled in as well!! Looking forward to the next book!
