Firstly I did not find this translation at all enlightening.
This makes any assessment of Lucretius' work difficult. I first read it many years ago and that time was left bemused as to whether it was a work of literature or a work of philosophy. I veered more to the latter and still find myself there. It frequently seems like flashes of poetry leading into plodding science cum philosophy.
