Ingen favoritbok precis!

I REALLY wanted to like this book and I'm pretty sad that I wasn't able to. It's just not a good book in my opinion. It started out just fine and I found myself liking the initial chemistry between the two main leads, but every time I was beginning to get sucked into the story, the language ruined it. This book is chaotic and stuffed full of enough clichés to give me nightmares.
The sentences were too long and poorly constructed, the point of view changed all the time (I cringed at the instances where "we" was used as a legitimate perspective), the characters were laughably stereotypical, the descriptions painfully over-the-top, and the weak attempts at philosophical depth meant that the rest of the writing — the slang and curses found in the suburbs — felt out of place. There was no structure whatsoever.
This applies to the plot and tone as well. We go from serious subjects such as homosexuality, homophobia, and youth crime to overdramatic comedy. It just doesn't feel believable and I spent so much of my time just shaking my head in confusion because I couldn't follow the sudden twists and turns in mood, subjects, and language. I get the feeling that the author was trying to be poetic and add depth but the only thing that happened is that all the powerful (and ultimately unnecessary) adjectives and adverbs make it all seem like a parody. I can't take it seriously. Several characters feel like caricatures and I cringed during so many of the scenes that were supposed to be heartfelt and meaningful.
I can't deny that I raced through this book, but afterwards I had very little to show for it. This is not a good book. It's fractured, poorly written, poorly paced, the characters are hideously flat, and, overall, it's just a big mess. I really wish I could have liked this book — I saw several glimpses of true potential — but it got swallowed by unnecessary adjectives and drama.
