The very very best (FOTM and inferno) but also some of the worst (Dark Valkyrie) and some of the stupidest ( Bird Brain and Gossamyr)
Blevins does some superior art here and creates some iconic costumes for the xterminators.

Whenever a long standing legend like Chris Claremont leave a book, especially one he created, you know it's going to leave a gaping hole in both the creativity and quality of a book. That and 've never been overly convinced by Simonson as a writer, at least in the few things I've read of hers. And after reading the first few issues, it wasn't about to change my mind. I loathed Warlock when he first appeared, although the introduction of Birdbrain may just be the single worst character I've come across. Thank fuck it only lasted a few issues. I like to think that he was planned to stay longer, although monumental backlash from fans led to him being exorcised from the future issues as soon as humanly possible. Things picked up from there.
Simonson comes into her own soon after. Blevin's art, with Austin on inks is an absolute highlight. And though things are a slow build up until we get to the outstanding 'Illyana Saga' during Inferno, it's still very readable stuff.
Though Blevin's has every man and his dog inking on this book, it's never as good after Austin leaves. Despite over half a dozen pencillers having a go across these 1100 pages, the art quality remans surprisingly high, even if the writing takes a noticeable downturn as Inferno and the Illyana saga comes to a close.
The roster changes and bloated and lack lustre Asgardian story line fails to reach the heights achieved midway through the book, meaning any future re-read will consign half of this book to 'a one and done read' as far as I'm concerned. Half of this book is great. Outstanding 80's comics at their finest. The other half is varying shades of who gives a shit, which is a shame really, as it's the lesser quality material collected here that robs this of the four stars the better half deserves. And given that half the creative team on multiple issues in this omnibus were women, I was rather taken aback. I could've sworn women weren't invented in comics until 2016. Oh well, live and learn. 3/5

I've been a sucker for the New Mutants for a while now, but damn does it get good here. Lots of great storylines as we see the team evolve and begin to fall apart. I especially enjoyed the X-Terminators miniseries and how that team gets incorporated into the New Mutants afterwards. I can really see where and how this book will eventually end and morph into X-Force. I only wish that content was already out in an omnibus, if only for consistencies sake. Alas, I must now hop into an Epic Collection release to finish out the run. Oh well, I do look forward to it.

Couldn’t stomach the last 6-7 issues in this book. Just not fun writing and the art flip flops. Would have loved to enjoy that arc cause the first NM/Asgard story was amazing but this was too much.
