I appreciate the idea behind the book, and at points, it seems like it's a good piece of a book, but it seems very unfinished. Chapters and stories cut off unexpectedly and it leaves a lot to be desired that people have come to know Johnny Rapid for. He glosses over a lot of the negativity in his career and ignores a lot of the big moments in his career. How did his biggest scenes come about? What were some negative aspects of some of his scenes? How did he get into doing his own site and his OF? What motivated him to write the book? It's more of a short story than an actual book since it's only a little over 100 pages, though the bits you do actually get to read give SOME insight into his life, though they do end short of getting into any actual deep moments or discussions.
Whilst it was interesting getting to hear stories of how Johnny came to be Johnny I wish that this had been written by Johnny himself and had also had more in-depth stories from throughout his career. Also the superhero/belt metaphor was extremely overused in my opinion and therefore lost its effect.
I’m not much of a autobiography reader, but this book was very moving, sad and inspiring. Johnny, after finishing your book I look at you in a different perspective. One of these days I will release my inner superhero just like Hylan did with Johnny Rapid.
It's always good to read the mentality fortitude that had to be acquired to get through the rough tunes in people's lives. It also hammers on the simple fact that porn stars are people, too, and deserves to be treated as such.
I was drawn to this book because I’m a big fan of his films and was excited to learn more about him. Unfortunately, the book fell short of my expectations. It offered very little insight about him, and by the end, I didn’t feel like I knew any more about Johnny than I did before reading this book. Disappointing overall.
