This book falls into several categories... biography, because it it is the story of 12 victims of rape, each one of which has written a chapter in their own words. It's about health, because being raped affects every aspect of one's life, especially physical and mental health. Each chapter in the book is written by one of the 12 victims. They write about their experience, their pain, and the path each has taken in the years following the initial attack. Printing this book was really a good idea by its editor, Mike Domitrz, who was drawn in to this subject after his sister was raped.
In my intention to learn more about sexual assault, it was important for me to read these stories about assault from the point of view of the survivor, and to see the focus on survival and recovery, not simply a retelling of the assault itself.
This book was very triggering for me, yet so validating. I could relate to many things in every single chapter. That in turn, reminded me my family isn’t alone through this nightmare. Highly recommend to family, friends, and survivors. #Ibelieveyou
This book is exactly what it claims to be. It is a collection of first person accounts of dealing with personal tragedy and the strength, hope, and inspiration that can be found in the aftermath of such tragedy. The accounts are clear, easily read, and each is unique.
I feel that this book is very important, and that these stories are stories that people need to hear. They bring to light horrible and tragic things as well as the strength and resiliency of humanity.
This was a very inspiring book that gave a voice to sexual assault survivors. Each chapter told the story of a different individual and how they overcame a rape. I was in awe of these survivors and how they took such a negative event in their lives and created a positive impact on the world. I also liked that two of the stories were told by male survivors. This group is so often overlooked.
Moving and powerful, the addition of male survivor's tales to this collection of writings by victims and survivors of sexual assault added a dimension that I had not ever truly encountered before. It's inspiring tone fills me with hope for victims and educators like me.

Reflections, thoughts, and stories from survivors of sexual assault. Deeply sad and moving. Also inspiring because it focuses on their recovery from violence too.
