Wow, what an ending!!!!!
This second book in the trilogy just thickens the overall plotline. What a rollercoaster Helja is on. I can't go into more detail except to say that I can't wait to see how this all ends in the third volume. Lehtolainen is a master in this genre. Five full stars!!!!

Fascinating story
Hilja is a complex character who doesn’t quite know who she is. She has trained as a bodyguard but events in book one of the series have put her off of her trade. In this series, she is setting up security at a new concept restaurant in Helsinki for a former client. The mystery of her lover and nemesis, David, continues and we wonder throughout this episode if he is still alive. Hilja continues her quest to find him, encountering Russian oligarchs and artists and further developing her partnership with Laitio of the Finnish version of the FBI.
Surprising turns abound and the ending makes reading the next story in the series an imperative. Hilja is very different from any female character that I have read...but she is fascinating!

Leena Lehtolainen made a friend for life. Her books don't pull any punches with how the set the scene always with the lynx in the background. Her next book will be as interesting as this one is. Always with the twists.

This is the second book in the Bodyguard trilogy. I did read the previous book, and wasn't that keen on it, but I thought it worth a second go as a series...

The problem, this time, is that pretty much nothing happens. Hilja does a lot of "investigating" (code for "do nothing much") and the mystery of David was just meh...
Also, Mike Virtue, a guy who isn't necessarily a character in this book, was mentioned numerous times, usually in the way of "What would Mike Virtue do here?" Quite possibly 15-20 his name came up. That's once every 20 pages or so. And the guy isn't even a character, just a memory...uggghhhh!!!

Tässä sarjan toisessa osassa junnattiin ja kehiteltiin. Lukuunottamatta paria viimeistä lukua juuri mitään ei tapahtunut. Etsittiin vain kadonnutta Davidia ja mietittiin, kuka hän lopulta oikein on. Samaa mietittiin KRP:n savoa puhuvasta Rytkösestä ja jo ensimmäisestä osaata tutusta taiteilija Jurista, jonka malliksi Hilja päätyy ja miettii, ketä rakastaa. Hiljan äidin ja enon kuolemaan liittyviä olosuhteita möyhittiin.
Hyvän dekkarin ääressä ei pitäisi joutua tylsistymään, kuten nyt kävi. Edes hyvä loppu ei pelasta kokonaisuutta.

This is really at least a 3-plus. The plot hangs together very well, it's generally quite gripping, and at least one of the bastards gets his comeuppance! With this title, the second in her Hilja Ilveskero tough-gal bodyguard series, LL is clearly developing a strong and (almost) credible personality for her central character. Well worth reading!

Lehtolaisella on erittäin vetävä kerronta ja palasin tämän trilogian äärelle oikein mielelläni. Jonkin verran turhaa arkista tapahtumakuvausta omaan makuun. Mutta henkilöhahmot kiinnostavia ja kuvaus rikasta. Heidän suhteen ilmeni mielenkiintoisia tapahtumakäänteitä. Päätöksen idea hyvä, toteutus kökkö. Tämäkin päättyy cliff hangeriin.

Leena Lehtolainen is most famous for her Maria Kallio series which presents the Finnish police woman with a family. The Bodyguard trilogy presents another strong female character Hilja Ilveskero who is absolutely fabulous!!! Great entertaining crime fiction with humour!

En keksi oikein mitään positiivista sanottavaa tästä dekkarista.
Juoni on kökkö, tai oikeammin juonta ei juuri ole. Asettuu osaksi isompaa kokonaisuutta, ei toimi itsenäisenä teojsena. Dialogi horjuu, hahmot ovat vahamaisia. Miljöön kuvaus on korkeintaan keskinkertaista.

Newly reunited with her lover secret agent David Stahl, bodyguard Hilja Ilveskero finds herself in the middle of another dangerous game when David turns up missing only days later. Her search takes her from the rolling hills of Italy to her native Finland, where she finds herself reconnecting with old friends while tangling with enemies old and new and searching for the man who, despite her dark past, has unwittingly captured her heart.
This is something of a by-the-book thriller against a unique backdrop, that being Finland. The plot doesn't particularly stand out (post-Cold War, organized criminals involved in shady business dealings, etc.), but the strength is in the supporting characters, who the supporting characters (even the villains) are fascinating and vibrant. At many points, though, I had a difficult time connecting with Hilja on a human level. Granted, she's emotionally guarded with good reason, given her past and her current profession, but it does throw up certain walls, and more often than than not, she comes off seeming somewhat cold and robotic. An entertaining read, but I'm lukewarm on whether I'd seek out more titles in this series.

It´s two years since I read the first book of the Bodyguard -series, and it effected me quite much. Just like the first one, I had very interesting and lively dreams about the book. I would not call them as nightmeres - they were more like some action movies. In the morning, the alarm clock rang too early and I could not find out, who the murder was. The same story goes through all tree books, releasing information bit by bit. Cant wait to read the last book of the trilogy.
I could not count, but I think I saw the name "Mike Virtue - the head of the Queen´s Safety Academy" at least 20 times. When ever the main caracter, Hilja, did not know what to do, she taught: "What would Mike Virtue (the head of the Queen´s Safety Academy) do in this kind of situation. He had quite a big role, though he is not even a real character of the book - only a memory from Hilja´s history.

Puoleen väliin asti tuntui, että tästä ei tule mitään, mutta onneksi lopussa sentään hiukan tuli ilmi inhimillisyyttäkin. Mafiat, Europolit ym. alkaa mennä mulla helposti yli ymmärryksen ja Lehtolaisen dekkarit on olleet pitkään niitä ainoita nykydekkareita, joita olen jaksanut lukea. Alkaa kyllä tuntua, että kohta nämäkin saa jättää. Kaipaan ihmissuhteita enemmän, enkä vain seksiä ja pettämistä. Jotenkin liian kovilla alkaa Lehtolainenkin ampua.

Rasittaa, miten Lehtolainen on kehittänyt yhden naistyypin, jota sitten käyttää joka romaanissaan. Hilja Ilveskerossa ja Maria Kalliossa on niiin paljon samaa, että suorastaan vituttaa!

2.5 Stars. I liked the first book in this series, but this one was a big disappointment. The problem was that in 99 percent of the book nothing of any interest happened. Hilja obsesses about David Stahl (is it love or hate?) and that's it. Also we have the oddly named alto violin. Apparently the translator doesn't known anything about musical instruments because this is obviously a viola.

Se on mielenkiintoista, kuinka mieli kiinnittyy kuvitteelliseen tarinamaailmaan ja alkaa pitää sitä normaalina. Sarjan ensimmäistä osaa lukiessani en millään päässyt yli sen kertakaikkisesta epäuskottavuudesta, mutta tätä toista osaa lukiessa asia ei enää haitannut. Toki kirja on edelleenkin keppoinen sekä juoneltaan että kerronnaltaan, mutta menee hyvin lomapäivän täytteenä.

Lähdin lukemaan Oikeuden jalopeuraa suurin odotuksin, koska olen pitänyt aina Lehtolaisen kirjoista. Tällä kertaa petyin kovasti. Teksti kyllä kulki sujuvasti, mutta itse juoni oli kertakaikkisen epäuskottava ja hölmö.

For some reason I liked this, the second one in the Hilja Ilverkero series, better than the first one so now I'm looking forward to reading the third!
Maybe it's because now I figured out that Hilja is really rebellious and quite reckless!! I like crazy!

The translation left some parts a bit confusing but overall this was a pretty good read. I really liked the main character Hilja, so I may try and get my hands on the first book, and see if that gets rid of some of the confusion.

Naja, so rasend spannend fand ich es nun nicht. Auch eine Meisterin der Showdowns ist Lehtolainen nicht gerade: Eine unspektakuläre Schießerei, mehr gabs nicht.
Dennoch mag ich die Figur der Hilja irgendwie und will nun schon noch wissen, wie's weitergeht.
