Het Alfabethuis / De bedrijfsterrorist
Het Alfabethuis is een thriller over twee Engelse piloten in de Tweede Wereldoorlog die tijdens een verkenningsvlucht boven Duitsland worden neergeschoten. Om niet in handen van de vijand te vallen nemen zij de plaats in van twee patiënten die per trein op weg zijn naar een psychiatrisch ziekenhuis. Dan blijkt dat ze door hun actie de identiteit hebben aangenomen van twee hooggeplaatste SS-officieren.
De bedrijfsterrorist speelt zich af in Nederland en vertelt het verhaal van Peter de Boer, een zakenman met een bedenkelijk verleden. De Boer schakelt bedrijven uit in opdracht van de concurrentie, totdat hij onder druk wordt gezet door een collega. Hij raakt verwikkeld in een internationaal complot, en het is maar de vraag of hij zich daaruit zal weten te redden.

He made his debut with the thriller “Alfabethuset” (1997), which reached bestseller status both in Denmark and internationally just like his subsequent novels “And She Thanked the Gods” (prev. “The Company Basher”) (2003) and “The Washington Decree” (2006). The first book on Department Q is “Kvinden I buret” (2007) and the second “Fasandræberne” (2008). The main detective is Deputy Superintendent Carl Morck from the Department Q and he is also the star of the third volume, “Flaskepost fra P” which was released in the fall of 2009 and secured Adler-Olsen ”Readers' Book Award” from Berlingske Tidende-readers, the Harald Mogensen Prize as well as the Scandinavian Crime Society's most prestigious price ”Glass Key”. The fourth volume in the Department Q series, “Journal 64” was published in 2010 and he was awarded the once-in-a-lifetime-prize of “The Golden Laurels” for this in 2011”. In December 2012 the fifth novel was published, “Marco Effekten".
Furthermore, Jussi Adler-Olsen was awarded “Favourite Author of the Danes” in 2011, 2012 and 2013 leading the organization behind to change the set-up, so the winner cannot be chosen more than once in a three year period.
Jussi Adler-Olsen's novels have had such an impact abroad, that he has also received a variety of awards there: ”The Sealed Room Award” in Japan for “Kvinden I buret”; ”Best Translated Mystery Novel of the Year”,”The Crime - Blitz Award 2011” in Germany for “Flaskepost til P” given to the best international crime, Elle magazine's French reader award: ”Prix de Lectrices the Elle” for “Kvinden I buret” as well as ”The Barry Award” in the US for “Kvinen I buret” that was elected ”Best Novel of the Year”.

Mooi einde maar verder een vrij langdradig verhaal. Omdat ik het onderwerp rondom de Tweede Wereldoorlog erg boeiend vind, heb ik het toch uitgelezen.
Jussi kan beter schrijven, en heeft mijn inziens ook beter werk afgeleverd in het verleden. Ik raad het boek aan als je net als ik interesse hebt in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Anders moet je dit boek dicht houden en zijn er betere boeken om eerst te lezen.
Mooi einde maar verder een vrij langdradig verhaal. Omdat ik het onderwerp rondom de Tweede Wereldoorlog erg boeiend vind, heb ik het toch uitgelezen.
Jussi kan beter schrijven, en heeft mijn inziens ook beter werk afgeleverd in het verleden. Ik raad het boek aan als je net als ik interesse hebt in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Anders moet je dit boek dicht houden en zijn er betere boeken om eerst te lezen.

Back to his earlier work which is much stronger than the last episodes of the Q series.
Albeit that both stories tend to be somewhat too long with steps in all directions which don't necessarily contribute to the momentum of the bigger story. Nevertheless, I enjoyed to read both stories with quite a unique story line and plot.

Also after reading this book from the omnibus, the rating doesn't change.
Because I used it as a book to read before going to sleep, it was a bit confusing at times. All the characters, the companies, the different wishes. Who caught whom, who held whom hostage to get something done from someone else. But all in all it was a very interesting read. Not at all predictable, just a good book that kept me guessing, kept me wanting to read on to learn what else was going to happen on the next page.
So, if you ever come across it, or one of them separately, do read!

It was a stunning read. At first, in the beginning of the book, I was at a loss trying to follow what was happening and who was who.
But when I kept turning pages, the book got me in an iron grip of horror, disbelief, wanting to beat people in the Alphabet House.
And later, I was in awe that a person can endure so much and still be alive. The outcome wasn't a surprise, in the sense that much time had passed, many things happened and a person can take only so much.
So for me that ending fitted the book perfectly.

Maakt telkens een mooie start maar de boeken worden te langdradig.
De schrijver wil elk (neven-)personnage volledig beschrijven zodat je hun karater en werking begrijpt.
Dit maakt de boeken vooral dik met overbodige info.

De bedrijfsterrorist is het tweede boek dat ik lees van Jussi Adler-Olsen, dat ik eigenlijk als "e- omnibus" aanschafte samen met Het Alfabethuis. Als hij in het Alfabethuis het lot van twee Engelse piloten tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog volgt in het land van de vijand, Duitsland, laat hij dit verhaal afspelen in Nederland. Hij weet verschillende draden naadloos aaneen te rijgen van de Bijlmerramp via de Molukse treinkaping tot aan de Eerste Golfoorlog en de Koerdische kwestie. Ik heb er van genoten! Mijn eigen woonplaats, Merksem, komt zelfs verrassend genoeg ook even aan bod als leuke bijkomstigheid.

Het eerste boek van deze omnibus heb ik gelezen. Het alfabethuis gaat over 2 Engelse piloten die in de tweede wereldoorlog worden neergeschoten boven Duitsland. Zij kunnen vluchten door de plaats in te nemen van twee patiënten in een hospitaaltrein. Later blijkt dat dit hoge ss-officieren waren en de hele trein op weg is naar een psychiatrisch ziekenhuis. Daar blijken meer simulanten op de zaal te liggen. Eén van de jongens weet na maanden te ontsnappen en gaat na de oorlog op zoek naar zijn vriend. Wel een interessant gegeven maar niet geweldig geschreven vind ik.

Ik heb 'De Bedrijfsterrorist' gelezen. Ik vond het een spannend en meeslepend verhaal. Zal nog eens iets van hem moeten lezen.

Groot fan van Serie Q. Dit is een eerder boek van Adler-Olsen, volkomen anders, maar ook zeer zeker de moeite waard.
