Emerging at last from a disturbing, vision-plagued coma, Rita is confronted by a stranger who is convinced she knows more than she's telling about her own past-and his brother's. I would give it a 3.5, but couldn't make the stars comply.

Rita Brooks is a psychologist who has plenty of problems of her own. Her biggest issue is a failure to develop and maintain an intimate relationship with a man until now. She knows she’s found “the one,” even though he’s hundreds of miles away. There is the fact they’ve never met face to face. Maybe that’s what makes their relationship work. Only emails and calls are no longer enough. Rita is ready for the next step in Tina Wainscott’s romantic suspense novel, WHAT SHE DOESN'T KNOW.

Rita Brooks is a buttoned down type of gal. Her hometown of Boston suits her. How could she fall for a smooth talking Southern gentleman from New Orleans, but fall she did. Now, all she has to do is meet him, and just maybe, love will follow, then who knows. Suddenly, everything literally goes black when a car crash puts her in a coma. The last thing she sees before the impact is a feathered mask, a Mardi Gras one. While in the coma, a man tries to communicate with her giving her cryptic messages and horrific images. She tells no one. It is never good for people to wonder if the head doctor is crazy too. The accident, along with the blond man haunting her dreams, plus the fact her potential sweetie is ignoring her emails and calls adds up to one bad day. Then he walks through her door, a man wearing the face of the man in her dream, demanding answers and making accusations.

Christopher LaPorte was always the lesser son, the bad prince in all the family dramas. That’s why he stayed away from his family and New Orleans. He figured everyone liked it better that way. It worked for him to until his brother jumped from a balcony. Now he’s determined to find out what would cause his charismatic brother to hurl himself from the gallery of the family home. He believes Rita Brooks is at the bottom of it. The woman is definitely hiding something.

WHAT SHE DOESN'T KNOW moves fast creating a sense of urgency. Using the colorful backdrop of New Orleans during Mardi Gras develops the complexity of the story. The antagonist while interesting is at first mesmerizing, but tends to bog the story down near the end when info dumping pages of backstory about how he became so twisted. There are a few glitches in the story that shouldn’t bother most readers. The chemistry between Christopher and Rita works. They both grow through the novel providing a satisfying conclusion.

WHAT SHE DOESN'T KNOW is a novel worthy of mysterious New Orleans. This is an early novel of Miss Wainscott. It makes me want to investigate her newer works. I would recommend this book. It kept me riveted on the plane with two crying babies, and a snorer nearby.

I love that there are a variety of free downloads for the Kindle, and I can cheerfully say that this was one of the better ones. The story is a little dated (it was written in 2004, before the proliferation of all things wireless) which does have an effect on how the story is read, but other than that, I quite enjoyed it.

Dr. Rita Brooks is a psychologist with a side business dealing collectibles online. She develops a rapport with one of her clients, and begins considering a long distance romance, but is derailed by a horrific car accident that leaves her in a coma. While in her coma she dreams that her potential long distance lover has been murdered, and he comes to her to plead help. When she awakes she is visited by Christopher LaPorte, Brian's brother, and learns that Brian committed suicide immediately prior to her car accident. Rita is convinced there's something foul afoot, and she won't rest until she figures out if her vision was real or the a product of her deluded mind.

Although the story was a little predictable, I enjoyed the cast of characters and the descriptions of Mardi Gras and New Orleans. There was a good blend of local color, backstory, and plot, and it made for a fun read that made me wonder why I hadn't come across this author before. Oh, Kindle people and your insidious free books, Mission Accomplished: I will be buying books from this author in the future.

What She Doesn't Know has something for everyone... mystery, suspense, romance, even a touch of paranormal and fantasy. This is one of the books that I downloaded from Amazon for free this month.

As a mystery and/or suspense novel this book is great. The storyline is fast paced, but not rushed. The plot is dark, twisty, and not at all obvious. The editing errors were few and far between.

As a romance, it isn't highly believable, but what romance books are really? Two people who both have commitment and intimacy issues meet and are irresistibly drawn to each other. A little too close to my last relationship for comfort maybe.

All in all a good read that was hard to put down.

This book started off great. It was a great look at Mardi Gras and New Orleans from an inside view. There were some twists and turns that took you down one path and then another. However, when the villian was finally identified, you got a quick one page synopsis of why the villian had done they were doing. The book seemed to be rushed at that point. It appeared as if the author knew what type of villian she wanted, but did not know how to explain the villian.

I wanted to check this book out as I like the author's other works. This one was a miss for me, I gave up around page 70. From the start I wasn't drawn in, I couldn't really buy into the potential between Rita and Brian, or why Brian was such a catch that someone wanted to kill him and the woman he was interested in. In the end, this one just wasn't for me,

This was a free Kindle download. As far as they go, this was o.eof the better freebies.
The book grabs your attention at the beginning. It keeps you wondering exactly where the story is going.
I think that the author got overwhelmed with the directions that the book could take, because around the middle, the book was just not right. And this is coming from a Louisiana Mardi Gras kinda girl. The game could have been a book unto itself

On a plus note, the book is never boring. It keeps you guessing. I do think that I will try another book from this author.

Great book... I was not sure about it to begin with.. and during part of it I had already figured out the main twist. I thought it a bit weird but still a good story non the less.. I am not sure about the romantic part of the book .. I didnt think of it as a very romantic anything. The story was interesting but I could have done without the extra info about the main twist.. idk.. was writted well so I do not want to give a bad review.. so to sum it up.. I guess it all comes down to ... this is not the type of book that I would normally like to read.

Everything on the internet has to be true, you know! LOL! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Dr Rita Brooks meets a man on the internet and feels he may be "it". But before she meets him she is involved in a car accident. Christopher LaPorte is the brother of Brian, the man Rita was to meet. A very gripping and suspenseful romantic suspense.

WOW this one has a surprise ending. I love books that have you guessing till the end and then still manages to solve everything and not leave you hanging. The bad guys in this one seemed to be staring you in the face as you read but towards the end takes a wonderfully mastered turn for a surprise. Anyone who enjoys a good who done it would love this book.

Mystery and intrigue!

I had never read a book set in New Orleans, but the idea of masquerades and secret organizations intrigued me. As most of Jaime's books, she adds just enough of a paranormal element that the story remains believable. And of course, there is always a deep, dark secret that you have to unravel, which I love.

I really enjoyed this Kindle free download. I figured out the twist early on but since I've been to New Orleans and Mardi Gras a number of times I still enjoyed the book. The local references brought back lots of memories and although I don't like chicory in my coffee ya gotta love those bignets.

I liked the first half of this book a lot. I zipped through it. When it got into the second half and the game part I thought it was a little all over the place. Overall it was a good read though.

A little slow in the middle. Ended strong enough that I looked into another book from her. I then read Unforgivable and I am now hooked on this writer.
