From single in Hawaii to 'it’s complicated' in Boston! In this Boston Christmas Miracles story, top of paediatric nurse Ailani’s wish-list is a white Christmas, so swapping sunny Hawaii for a stint on a Boston children’s ward is unmissable. Ailani expects icy temperatures…but her boss, Javier, is scorching hot! This single dad’s disillusioned with everything . And while Ailani has lost more than most, she’s determined to prove he’s wrong. Can she do it before the holidays are over?
Author Ann McIntosh was born in the tropics, lived in the frozen North for a number of years, and now resides in sunny central Florida with her husband. She’s a proud Mama to three grown children, loves tea, crafting, animals (except reptiles!), bacon, and the ocean. She believes in the power of diverse romances to heal, inspire and provide hope in our complex world.
This is a Medical Romance, and this is the first book in the Boston Christmas Miracles series. I really loved getting to know the characters in this book. I love the slow moving romance in this book. I love the little bits of medical stuff that was mixed into this book. I also loved the little bit of Christmas mixed into this book. This book was just a really cute and fun read. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Good slow-burn romance with an unusual hero. Ailani is a pediatric nurse from Hawaii who did a job swap with a nurse from Boston. She's always wanted to experience a white Christmas, so she jumped at the opportunity. One of the first people she met was Javi, one of the pediatricians. She is attracted to him, but when she learns he is recently divorced from his husband, she figures he is out of her reach. Not that it really matters, as she is only there for three months and has no intention of getting involved in a fling.
Javi is a pansexual divorced single dad of an adorable little girl. He's feeling a bit disillusioned about life in general, with the only bright spot being little Mabel. He's tired of being looked at with pity by his coworkers but hasn't been able to do anything about it. Then, sunny Hawaiian nurse Ailani bursts into his life.
I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Ailani and Javi. Because she believes Javi is gay, Ailani first looks at him as a friend. I loved how well they worked together; that comradeship bled over into their developing friendship. Then, they bonded over Mabel, who quickly grew attached to Ailani. Ailani worked hard to bury her attraction to Javi, believing it was useless. At the same time, Javi discovers he is attracted to Ailani. But he fears history repeating itself, so he denies his growing feelings.
When he finally admits those feelings, he makes a boneheaded move that makes Ailani feel that her desires and needs aren't important. This disregard drives her away from Javi. I liked the self-examination that opened his eyes to how he let his past dictate the future. Once he saw that, he realized he was ready to change. I loved seeing him go to Ailani and explain what happened and promise to keep the lines of communication open if she'd give them a second chance.
The epilogue was terrific and showed what a difference a year makes.
I received a ARC from NetGalley and Mils and Boon in exchange for a honest review.
Sadly, I found this book rather boring and pedestrian. If there hadn’t been the additional plot element about Java’s sexuality, there would have been nothing of interest in the relationship arc at all. There was no realistic tension or conflict. I felt the issues were manipulated rather than real.
This was so sweet and saccharine as to risk sugar overload.
Two people meet and are attracted. But, they can’t go further because they know thee is no future and it’s too risky.. wtf!
If people stopped themselves from getting involved with another person - without having firm guarantees it would lead somewhere - the human race would have died out. I felt this book was a cynical tickbox of ‘issues tackled’ rather than a satisfying, emotionally authentic romance. Very disappointed - especially as I have really enjoyed books by this author.
This is the 1st book in the “Boston Christmas Miracles Series” and it is a Medical Romance book. Ailani is a nurse and she is from Hawaii working at the Boston hospital on a nurse swap for three months. She has always wanted to experience a white Christmas and spread her wings. Dr. Javi is head of pediatrics at the Boston hospital, he is pansexual, and a divorced single father to his daughter Mabel. Aliani is very much attracted to Javi but knows that she is no match for him. Javi is also attracted to Aliani and he’s not ready to go down that road again. The two develop a friendship and bond over Mabel. This is an enjoyable read, love the friendship and bonding the couple had. Little Mabel is such a cutie pie.
I received an ARC via NetGalley and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
The Nurse's Holiday Swap by Ann McIntosh, book one in the Boston Christmas Miracles series, is sweet tale with a nurse and doctor who shouldn't fall in love. Dr. Javi Pascal is pansexual, single, and divorced father to Mabel. He was married to another man and is the head of pediatrics at a Boston hospital. Nurse Ailani Kekoa, from Molokai, is in Boston for three months on a nurse swap. This smart and very capable nurse is there to spread her wings and stretch her abilities, not look for a fling. These two walk the fine line between professionalism and their attraction and need to figure out their futures before Ailani is set to return home. I recommend The Nurse's Holiday Swap to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Thank you to Mills & Boon/ Net Galley for allowing me to read this early🫶🏻 this book was such a cute cosy read for the coming winter. Ailani is a temporary paediatric nurse in a Boston hospital covering for another as she usually works/lives in Hawaii. She falls in love with her boss Javi, a pansexual dad to the cutest daughter Mabel. This book is a slow-burn but easy read with great writing and representation of the LGBTQ+ community as well as various ethnicities. I would have liked a little more drama/excitement but I was overall happy with the ending and I enjoyed this book. I would rate it 3.5/5⭐️
I absolutely adored this sweet medical romance Christmas novel. It had everything that I wanted in a festive novel and more. The story line was easy to follow and the two main characters chemistry was sweet and slow burn. I kept rooting for them to get together. A brilliant novel that's perfect for curling up with on a cold day with a hot chocolate. I definitely recommend it. 💖 Thank you to netgalley, Mills and Boon and the author, Ann McIntosh for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
The Nurse's Holiday Swap is the story of Ailani and Javier. Ailani lives in Hawaii and works as a nurse. She longs to travel, when an opportunity to sway for the hoildays with another nurse in Boston comes up. Ailani says yes. She has always wanted to see snow. Javier is a doctor and single father of a cute little girl. When his ex husband left them to travel the world. Javier concentrated in bringing up their daughter. Ailani fits right in at the hospital with staff and paitents. Javier can't help being attracted to her. The attraction grows as they spend more time with each other. Both try to resist their feelings at first. Will the magic of Christmas help these two find their happily ever after? Recommended for fans of medical and contemporary romance.
Dr. Javi Pascal is pansexual (props for being inclusive). He's a single, divorced father to Mabel. He was married to another man and he's the head of pediatrics in Boston. Nurse Ailani Kekoa is in Boston for three months on a nurse swap. She's there to spread her wings and stretch her abilities, not look for a fling. She's smart and very capable. They walk the fine line between professionalism and their attraction. Enjoyed the nods to Hawaii.
This is a medical romance by Harlequin about a travel nurse from Hawaii who wanted to see snow for the first time at Christmas, so she decided to swap assignments with a nurse from Boston. There she met a handsome pediatrician who had a 6 year old daughter. They spent lots of time together but she had plans to go back home to Hawaii after her assignment was over and the pediatrician knew this and he gave her an ultimatum.
Single nurse from Hawaii comes to Boston on a job/life swap and meets with her boss head of pediatrics Javier, a single dad. With this one we get a Pan rep, cute kid, boston setting, snow, great hospital setting as well and more of the cute kid! Javier and Ailani start to become friends with lunch everyday to a football game and then more. This was a cute start to this series and can’t wait to see who else gets some HEA.
This was a cute quick read mills and boon. I love a medical romance and a Christmas one is even better. Lovely , sweet and a fluffy read. Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review
This was a cute, sweet tale with a nurse and doctor who shouldn't fall in love. The idea of a house-swap is fun, Swapping lives for a period of time, ,not knowing what you're getting into. It was nice their jobs even allowed them to swap so they weren't without income while on holiday. I would read more by this author. The Medical Romances are my favorite line of Harlequins.
