Connie Brummel Crook is a historian, former teacher and the author of more than a dozen historical books for children that often focus on the history of Upper Canada. Connie lives in Peterborough, Ontario.
This book has been reissued under the title Acts of Courage: Laura Secord and the War of 1812 As that book is currently in print I have done a full review of it.
The newer edition has been highly edited, but the plot is identical. This older edition builds the characters a little more in Laura’s early life, however since this period in the book is almost entirely fiction, teachers may prefer the newer book.
The newer edition has also improved on some awkward dialogue removing poor dialect attempts. It also has more widely spaced text, which make for easier reading.
The author herself has not acknowledged this book in the list of her works at the back of the new edition, nor is included on her website.
