My Husband's House

Rate this book
A new home. A loving wife. A secret that could kill…

With its peeling wallpaper and overgrown garden I know our new home isn’t perfect. But my husband Ben promises it’s the fresh start we need. I remind myself that he’s an amazing father to our two children, and that we have years of happy marriage behind us. He’s been distant for months but I’m desperate to believe the move will bring us back together.

When I meet our next-door neighbour Sara , I’m immediately relieved. She’s so welcoming and full of local gossip. But the moment she meets Ben I’m sure an angry frown flickers across her smiling face. Later he says I’m imagining things…

Why is my husband lying?

Then one night as I tuck our children into bed, the silence is broken by a knock on the front door. A stranger is standing on our doorstep. I turn to look at Ben’s face as he stares at her with unconcealed fury. Has he met this woman before? Nothing could prepare me for what she says: I know who you are. Get out of my house.

Gripping, twist filled and full of tension, My Husband's Houseis a taunt psychological thriller that kept me turning the pages wanting to know more. Secrets and lies are the name of the game in this shocking book.

Ben has convinced Naomi that moving to a new home is just what they need! They have two young children and a baby on the way. Sure, this home isn't perfect. It has peeling wallpaper and an overgrown yard, but it has been vacant for some time. A little TLC is all it needs.

Naomi is happy to meet Sara, her next-door neighbor. They have become instant friends, but Sara's face loses its welcoming smile when she meets Ben. She is not the only one who doesn't appear overjoyed to meet him. Then late one night there is a knock at the door....

I loved trying to figure out who could be trusted in this book. There are a lot of characters, and many appear to have secrets. How well do we really know the people in our lives? This was a juicy mystery that kept me on my toes the entire book. I found this book to be riveting and did not want to put it down.

There is a nice amount of tension and dread throughout the book. The old home with the peeling wallpaper and creepy shed provided atmosphere and set a chilling vibe. I enjoyed the various POV's and how everything played out. This was a well written and well thought out book.

Sheryl Browne delivers every time, and this book was shocking, intense, dark, gripping, and full of twists. Just the way I like my psychological thrillers.

Gripping, tense, shocking and captivating!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a well-written, entertaining, intense and gripping, psychological thriller. It is fast paced with a likable female protagonist, murder, mystery, suspense, tragedy, twists and turns, and an unexpected ending. Many thanks to Ms. Sheryl Browne, NetGalley, and the publisher, Bookouture, who kindly provided me with an ARC of this outstanding novel. This is my honest opinion.

I have read all of the authors books and really enjoyed them, there is always a distinct ‘theme’ to each book…..this book is based around ‘knowing people’ and ‘trust’ and ‘do you really, really know someone as you think you do?’
As always the story is full of the unexpected and although maybe this book had more ‘build up’ than BAM straight into it it was intriguing and kept you wondering just what was going on and what was about to happen….superb ending
Another taut and tense psychological thriller from one of the best writers of them.
( loved seeing Harborne where we lived for 8 years in print )

When Ben, Natalie and their two children move into their new home, life changes for everyone. I was gripped from the prologue. There were so many twists and turns that my head was spinning. It will make you question if you really know the person that you love. The characters were well fleshed out and I never knew which character I believed, there so many lies. I love Sheryl's writing style, she never disappoints. The ending was very creepy.

Sheryl Browne’s psychological suspense stories always encourage readers to ask questions about their own lives, this one is no exception.

How big a lie can you forgive? If the lie is told to protect you, does it make a difference?

Your heart will be racing within a few paragraphs of the prologue. You’ll suddenly realize you are gripped by the story, unable to put it down. Then anxiety will set in and give way to paranoia, and shock and then you’ll be left muttering, “Browne, you got me AGAIN!”

You’ve been warned - 13 Trowan Crescent holds some dark secrets!

After taking her time to allow Naomi Felton time to realize a threat, to understand the scope of it, who’s behind it, and then decide how she’s going to respond, Browne deliberately picks up the pace and relies on the disturbing eerieness to carry the story. Touching on monsters in our midst, dangerous neighbours, and manipulative and sociopathic behaviour, this story is FULL of surprises and paranoia-inducing, creepy happenings. My heart was pounding.

After my fifth book by this author, I decided to stop trying to predict what was going to happen because Browne always has a twist that comes from left field and leaves me gobsmacked. Her writing is her passion, her soul food, and it shows. I’m never disappointed with twisty suspense written by this author.

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Oooh yes please!!!! Everything about this book big huge yes!!! Sheryl Browne certainly knows how to write a psychological thriller. Page after page more drama going on I couldn't wait to see how this ended. And still pulling punches to the very end! Yes please is always the answer to reading any book from her.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

Naomi can’t tell why her new neighbors, most notably Sara, take a strong dislike to her husband Ben. Naomi and Sara have children of a similar age and the two woman begin a friendship. However, things become strained almost immediately and quite naturally this concerns Naomi. Then when Ben is introduced to Sara’s partner, the dislike turns to animosity, further perplexingly Naomi.

Moving to a new home and befriending new neighbors can indeed be daunting. Factor in lies and secrets being part and parcel in this latest thriller by Sheryl Browne, even more so. With excellent pacing, past and present collide, illustrating that hiding one’s past from those closest to you is not really a good idea. This thrilling read was so compelling that it was impossible to put down, and it managed to leave me breathless.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This complex thriller is the first I’ve read by this author. It has many twists and turns, making your head spin. The tension starts from the beginning and doesn’t let up. At first, you are wondering if the mysteries lie in the house. Then, you wonder what characters hold the real mysteries. Who is lying? Is anybody innocent? There’s a bunch happening in this well written thriller. My only complaint is the last chapter. It just added confusion and only took away from the satisfaction.

I was hooked on the first page. Ben and Naomi move into an old home with a haunting history. They have two children and one of the way. Naomi has no idea that a little girl went missing from the family that lived in that home. It’s been vacant for a long time and they got a good deal on the outdated home.

Naomi feels isolated until she meets the neighbors Sara and her boyfriend Paul. Sara has children and the kids become friends.

Ben personality starts changing and he is short with her but she attributes it to the move, his new job and the impending birth of their third child. Secrets start to come out and throws this family in turmoil.

Another amazing psychological thriller. Browne is the master when it comes to this genre. Chilling, haunting and twisted!

3.5/5, rounded up | Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love a good mystery/thriller so I was excited to dive into this. My Husband’s House is a fast paced, quick read that keeps you sucked in thanks to the multiple POVs and cliffhangers. There were plenty of twists and turns, some that I predicted and others that were a surprise.

Pros:
- page turner
- suspense building
- quick read

Cons:
- it felt a bit jumbled - I was anticipating the reveal to unanswered questions, which I got, but it all kind of poured out at once as opposed to a slower reveal which I personally would’ve appreciated more
- the ending (literally the last page) wasn’t as satisfying as the rest of the book

Minor, but I don’t think the cover or blurb match the story as well as it could’ve.

This was my first read by Browne and I’m excited to check out her other works!

Review for 'My Husband's House' by Sheryl Browne.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Sheryl Browne, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 5th June 2023.

This is the sixth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'My Husbands Girlfriend', 'Her First Child' 'The Invite', 'Do I Know You?' and 'The Liar's Child' and would highly recommend them all!!

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'If you enjoyed reading The Housemaid, The Perfect Marriage and The Wife, you will love My Husband’s House.Gripping and totally addictive, you’ll be hooked from the first page.' I am a huge fan of 'The Housemaid'' and 'The Wife' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Sheryl and if this is half as good as 'My Husband's Girlfriend', 'The Invite', 'Do I Really Know You?', 'Her First Child ' and 'The Liar's Child' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists a prologue, 71 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in a mix of third and first person perspective and the protagonists are Naomi Felton, Joan, Sara, Ben Felton and Lily. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are, as long as they are well written, it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. To have the benefit of both first and third person perspective ensures you don't miss out on anything.

'My Husband's House' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Sheryl discusses miscarriage.

Wow!!! What did I just read!!! What twists and a half fairplay, I most certainly was NOT expecting any of that!!! Anyway, we shall return to that!!! This book is extremely well written and completely drew me in from start to end. The synopsis, title and cover worked perfectly with the storyline.

Yet another absolutely addictive psychological thriller by this absolutely incredible author!!!

The storyline was extremely compelling and I was completely addicted from the beginning starting with a prologue putting my heart in my throat to absolutely explosive ending!!! I started it this morning and finished it in a day!! It was filled with mysteries, drama, friendship, crime, secrets, cover ups, twists, lies and surprises and and had me completely absorbed throughout. This book ticked absolutely every single box!!! It was filled with suspense, lies, romance, twists, heartbreak, deceit and shocks!! It had me on tenterhooks on the edge of my seat and biting my nails to get to the truth. I absolutely loved how it completely shocked me at the end!! There's not much worse in a book than when you have already figured out what is going on by 50%!! This book is told from multiple perspectives which gives the reader a huge insight into what is going on and how the different characters are feeling without giving too much away and Sheryl weaves the different chapters told by the different characters together perfectly at just the right times. It really is one of those books that I kept telling myself one more chapter as I was walking around with the kindle glued to my hand but each and every time the chapter ended in a way that there was no chance I could end there so I just had to read another and another until I completely devoured it in one sitting in the end!!! The storyline is multilayered, multigenerational, creepy, dark, twisty, complex, suspense rammed and just seriously everything you could ask for when looking for a show stopper!!! It starts of with the tragic story of a family torn apart with 9 year old Holly disappearing and her father committing suicide. Ben, Naomi, Liam and Maya move into home 20 years later and Naomi and Ben are expecting their son to be born not long after they have moved in. The home has been abandoned for 20 years and is filled with creaky doors, a tattered teddy and a ghostly rocking chair. Ben is working in his new job, Liam and Maya have started a new school and Naomi gets to know the neighbours Sara, her partner Paul and Sara's children James and Ellie. She also meets her other neighbour Joan. However, Sara, Paul and Joan seem to take an instant dislike to Ben and then strange things start happening which leads to tragedy. Why is everyone against Ben? Is Ben hiding something from his past? Why does Paul never talk about his ex wife and daughter? Who is the strange woman having around the park and then the school? Grab your copy now to find out the reasons to all of these questions and more in this fantastic page turner!!!
This book is not only an epic psychological thriller filled with twists and turns that I would have never expected all the way to the end but it is also quite sad and heartbreaking at times and it definitely makes you question why certain people didn't get the help they needed sooner. It also ends in a very thought provoking way leaving the reader to think and talk about it long after they have finished reading the book which is definitely a sign of an amazing author and an addictive successful book!!! In this book Sheryl discusses very important subjects that include miscarriage, mental health and Gaslighting and manages to weave them all into an addictive, realistic and emotional storyline. A huge well down to you Sheryl you should be extremely proud of yourself!! I would love to see this book turned into what would promise to be a massive hit movie!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Absolutely addictive, unputdownable and most definitely EXPLOSIVE!!!

The characters were vivid, realistic, unique and very compelling. Throughout the book I liked, disliked and questioned most of the main characters unsure of who was to blame and who was doing what wrong and right. After I had done all that I was still wrong!!! Throughout the book I flicked from feeling sorry for either Naomi, Lily, Sara and Joan and then by the next chapter I thought that some of the characters seriously needed help or were just horrific. I became suspect of them all. This really is one of those books who you really have no idea who to trust and because I have finished the book I have different feelings on some of them so I won't say anymore as I don't want to risk dropping any hints that may spoil the storyline for future readers. However I do want to say a HUGE Well done Sheryl!!! Sheryl has created the perfect eclectic mix of strong and realistic characters came together to make this book a real page turner!!! Each of them played their parts perfectly and Sheryl's evocative writing skills really did bring each one of them to lore!!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first two chapters of Sheryl's 'The Affair' which promises to be just as addictive as this book and I cannot wait to get stuck into it!!!

This book would make a truly captivating movie which I would love to see and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by Sheryl. Congratulations Sheryl on yet another amazing read!!! Here's to your next success 🥂

This is exactly why Sheryl is one of my favourite authors. I love every book yet she still manages to make them better and better which is not an easy feat!!

Overall a page turning, gripping and addictive psychological thriller that will shock you at times and break your heart on others!!

Genres covered in this novel include Crime, Thriller And Mystery Adventures, Women's Psychological Fiction, Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Women's Popular Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Literary Fiction, Suspense Thriller, Psychological Literary Fiction, Psychological Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Psychological Theiler, Noir Fiction, Womens Psychological, Domestic Thriller, Thriller, Mystery ,Thriller & Suspense Literary Fiction, Romantic Suspense, Psychological Suspense, Domestic Fiction, Domestic Thriller and Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Jewell, Rachel Abbott, K.L Slater, T.M Logan,The Housemaid, The Widow, The Housewarming, The Perfect Marriage, The Wife, Daniel Hurst and anyone after an addictive psychological thriller.

393 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited and £8.99 in paperback via Amazon at time of review, which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

His dream home...her worst nightmare...and a secret that could kill...

Hold onto your hats - Sheryl Browne is back with a bang! I have read umpteen of her thrillers and she never fails to keep me guessing but has yet to hoodwink me...lol MY HUSBAND'S HOUSE is a different story of sorts in that it is more of a slow burn. But don't let that fool you because you are not bored during the build up. Oh no. Sheryl keeps us proper entertained with a little neighbourly spat here and there, a bit of sibling rivalry, some jealousy maybe, plenty of secrets, a few lies thrown in...and a whole lot of wondering what the hell was going on and where it was all going to lead.

Naomi and Ben have just moved into what they are sure will be their dream home. It's not perfect; the decor fairly dated; it's clearly in need of some love. But it's their's. And it's just the fresh start they need. Despite her looming superstitions, Naomi is looking forward to settling in here and making some new friends. One such opportunity comes along when a knock at the door reveals a smiling face. Sara lives next door with her two children, James and Ellie, of similar ages to her own Liam (9) and Maya (5). The two women fall into an easy friendship and Naomi is immediately relieved, desperately needing a friend to help her settle in.

Until she meets Ben. There's a flicker of something Naomi can't quite interpret on Sara's face but it seems from the very beginning, she doesn't warm to him. The question is...why? Ben is quick to dismiss her worries, saying she is imagining things. Baby brain, maybe? After all, she is six months pregnant. But no matter how much the two try to disguise it, it is clear they both harbour an obvious dislike for the other. But it's not just Sara. Her partner Paul doesn't seem to like him either. And when Joan, the elderly neighbour from across the street, meets him there's a sense of eeriness as the two glare at each other. Joan knows her husband. But from where? And it is clear that Ben recognises Joan. The darkened look he gave her is like one Naomi has never seen in her usually placid husband's eyes. Which begs the question as to why? And why is Ben lying to her?

Slowly but surely, Naomi's world begins to crumble leaving her wondering if they should have moved into this house to begin with. Particularly after she heard the disturbing history of the place. Her superstitious nature would have her believing all sorts from the creaking of the rocking chair that meant a ghost's spirit remains to the disturbing dreams she has of a child crying for help.

But when the startling truth is revealed nothing will prepare Naomi for the shock that is about to befall her as all the secrets and lies come bubbling to the surface.

So much drama and so much tragedy is woven into this tautly driven psychological thriller. It is thrilling, engaging and entertaining on so many levels and such an addictive read that was impossible to put down. It is one of Browne's best to date though it did leave a few unanswered questions at the end that I felt could have been clarified. Such as the drowning of the doll - I didn't understand that - nor the final pages of the book which I felt were unnecessary. But that aside, this is a five star read that is compelling and unputdownable.

Sheryl Browne, you've done it again!

I would like to thank #SherylBrowne, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #MyHusbandsHouse in exchange for an honest review.

Another great psychological thriller from Sheryl Browne.
It’s hard to describe this story without giving too much away but it’s definitely got a few surprises in store.
Naomi and Ben move into a house that needs a lot of TLC and their neighbour, Sara is there to say hello and offers to look after their children for a bit as she has two of a similar age.
Ben is a bit off towards Sara but Naomi can’t understand why and he just brushes this off.
When he meets Sara’s partner the animosity is clear for all to see but again Naomi doesn’t understand why.
This is a gripping psychological thriller that will definitely have you racing through the pages.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Spannung, Thriller, Twist…

A family moves to a new town and the wife discovers her husband has been keeping secrets from her.

I wanted to love this book, and did in fact love much of the plot and especially the twist towards the end. However, all the good parts of the story did not equal to a good book. The main issue is the dialogue between anybody and everybody. Almost none of it felt real or even plausible at times, too much conversing with the small children who are not a pivotal part in most of the drama, Naomi and Ben seemed bi-polar and nonsensical most of the time, and Joan appeared senile at times, completely lucid at other times. A more developed and intricate plot and less talking would have worked better for me.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

WOW WHAT A BOOK!

This one started out strong and kept getting better. From the first chapter I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.
There are so many secrets and twists weaving all of the characters together. I really don’t even want to say anything else and spoil even a tiny bit for anyone. It’s that good!

Also a bonus (for me anyways) short chapters!!!
I really enjoy a book more for some reason when the chapters are short.

My only question is, what was with the jam (or bloody) hand print in the kitchen? We never got an answer for that, and it’ll drive me nuts forever.

This was my first book by Sheryl, and it most definitely will not be my last.

My Review:
Enjoyed!!!!! I was hooked from the very first page. I read this one in just a few sittings. It was so good and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. There were so many twists and turns that I never knew what was going to happen next. Be warned you will get nothing done until you finish this book. Ok so what first attracted me to this one was the blurb. I love any kind of book that has a bunch of deep dark secrets that are waiting to finally be revealed. With that being said every character in this one were shady as heck and not trust worthy what so ever. I didn’t know what to think about any of them if I’m being honest. They could’ve told me the sky was blue and I still wouldn’t have believed them. Next up is that wow of an ending. Once all the secrets were let out it became complete chaos. Everyone paid for their choices that they made whether they were good or bad. Sheryl Browne really wrote a fantastic book and I can’t wait to read her next one.

In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Stop reading here because I’m about to spoil it…

Married couple and their little boy and girl move to a new town. The wife is pregnant with their third. The husband is sort of creepy and is keeping secrets. The lady next door is dating a guy that seems perfect but seems to despise the new neighbor’s husband. Turns out they are half brothers. The boyfriend is psycho. He was always jealous of his half brother and blamed him for taking away his dad’s attention. He tries to destroy his life by turning all against him and framing him for murdering their kid sister that went missing when they were kids. Their dad couldn’t live with guilt of knowing his son killed his daughter and hiding her body in the walls of their house to protect him so he hung himself. The wife went nuts, ran away and abandoned the two boys. The killer son goes back to living with his single mom but the other brother ends up in foster care and never tells anyone about the family secret. There’s a lot more to it but that’s the gist of the story. I liked it because it kept me guessing til the end.

Sheryl Browne delivers every time, and this book was shocking, intense, dark, gripping, and full of twists. Just the way I like my psychological thrillers.

Gripping, tense, shocking and captivating!

‘My Husband’s Secret’ instantly gripped me. I loved the premise of a family moving into their dream home, only for superstitious new home owner, Naomi, to start finding things to feel uncomfortable with. Some of the descriptions were almost haunting to the point I got a shiver up my spine. I enjoyed the introduction of Little Buttons. The toy brought with it as much intrigue as the house’s past did.

The children added to the layers and I loved their interactions with the neighbour, Sara’s children. Then the two families, entwined by their proximity and at similar life stages brought the drama. So many questions popped up and the answers were coming at a high price for the characters. There were tragedy, tears, danger and twists - everything needed to make a great psych thriller.

I found this book to be a real nail biter with a WOW ending. Another cracker and definitely a must read!

This was my first book by Sheryl Browne and now I need more. A well written thriller with tension and suspense throughout the whole book. I loved the different points of view and trying to figure out who was lying, who could be trusted. So many twists, I partly figured one out but the big twist I did not see coming!

*Basic warning that this review is for personal recall of this book- not review, possible spoilers. Not intended to be informative for other readers, only myself *

Hooked at the beginning, eventually saw the twist coming in the middle but enough side quests to keep me engaged
