This book is not too long, and so was necessarily somewhat superficial in it's treatment of the subject. But it gives a nice overview and is filled with a lot of great pictures that I enjoyed seeing.

I was completely fascinated by this portrait of the day "that saved the world" from Hitler and his Nazi war machine. The organization - hour by hour mixed with a focus on specific beaches and military specialties, etc, was excellent. The photographs, largely taken from Time magazine's collection, are amazing, as are the snippets of reminiscences from surviving D-Day participants. I learned so much, and loved every minute of it!

I liked the way the book covers elements of D-Day through short segments - from each beach to different topics such as troops, leaders, equipment, etc. A solid overview while also adding specifics in each section to keep it intriguing.

I knew about D-Day of course, but this short book opened my eyes to the sheer number of people, planes, artillery, etc. that participated in the assault on the Normandy beaches. I have always had visiting Normandy on my bucket list, and this book just whet my appetite even more. It also made me deeply grateful for the sacrifices made by so many in the name of freedom. The writing is a bit dated, but the facts are real. It's staggering what men can do when motivated by patriotism--no matter what your country.

This short history of D-Day is perfect for tourists looking to bone up prior to a visit to Normandy. Loaded with maps, photos, and easily parsed text, this book educates and entertains - and all in a format made for easy consumption over one rainy afternoon or several shorter (ahem) reading sessions.

Recommended for: armchair historians, travelers.

11-11-10 The book is so far good tells you about world war 2 and D-day. It also tells you abount how did everything happened like Operation: Overlord. It also tells you about the tech they used during the war like paratroopers use a small metal cricket to find other soliders during the night. I'll keep on reading.

11-16-10 The book is starting to tell about what happened during the war like the allies landed on omaha beach and as they make thier way into germany. I'll keep on reading this book.

12-1-10 I finished the book and it was good gave you a lot of infomation on the stuff they used and the battles like Operation: overlord. It also had infomation on people who were in the war and a lot of pictures to show you. I rate this book a 5 star.

Another interesting and informative book-zine by Time. Lots of pictures. What a horror show this invasion was. Unbelievable bravery and heroism, a war that was clearly just. I tried a few years ago to get through Ambrose's comprehensive coverage of the same subject but didn't make it through. Maybe it's just too hard to read that much about this subject.

This book was about d-day all of the events that lead up to it what the Germans and the allies were planning at the time of d-day and who was in it. I recommend this book to people who like to read time magazine and non fiction factual books.
