Logan has spent most of his life looking for his soul mate. When he was a child she was his playmate and best friend that only he could see. But when he turned ten she was taken from him and “reborn”. Logan vowed to spend the rest of his life looking for her, and as he grew and dreamed about her he realized she was the only woman he would ever truly love.

Awww, so romantically sweet.

Flash forward twenty seven years and Logan’s now a rich, successful businessman and his lifelong search comes to an end when he sets eyes on waitress Amber Lewis. He immediately recognizes her as his one and only but she has no memory of their entwined pasts. She only knows he’s hot and she feels a connection. The remainder of the story follows them as they date, fall in love, travel around the world and uncover Amber’s buried past memories

Both characters were decent but for the most part there wasn’t a heck of a lot going on. Logan is a good, kind guy and she’s a hardworking gal who has had some rough breaks in life but their characters didn’t engage my emotions for a large part of the book. I didn’t feel that “spark” nor did I see enough depth and development to their relationship until near the end. I wanted to read some fun falling for you dialogue and feel what they were experiencing as they were falling in love which to me is the best part of a romance but much of the story is told in a way that kept me at an emotional distance.

Towards the latter end a big twist is introduced and it was then that the author hooked me and nabbed my emotions and, yeah, even made grumpy me tear up. I felt like I’d been kicked in the gut and if the rest of the story had been written with this same intensity I would have rated it much higher.

This one rates a three and ½ from me. Though it needed a bit more oomph in the first half it turned out to be a sweet little tear-jerker of a read.

Previously published on my blog: http://fictionfervor.wordpress.com/20...

Across Eternity was a fairly pleasant read for me. After finishing it in a few hours (it’s fairly short – only about 300 pages), I immediately wrote this review.

The main problem I had with reading the book were all of the grammatical errors. To normal people (yes, apparently I am not normal), the book’s typos would be easily forgiven. But I’m a grammar freak. Every time I stopped at a misspelled word, a misplaced apostrophe, or a superfluous comma, I grimaced. Because I’m just that obsessed with fixing grammatical errors.

Getting past all of the technical errors, the next thing I found wrong was how unrealistic the characters were. I know, I know, I’m always going on and on about how realistic (or unrealistic) things in books are, but to be honest, I can’t work with unrealistic books.

Logan Richards is a Marty Stue. He’s handsome. Rich. Smart – as in, genius standards. (He went to college when he was thirteen!) Kind. Understanding of the world. And all of that screams of “MARTY STUE!” And I know, in the end of the book, there’s an explanation provided for why he is all of those things – (spoiler!) – but those characteristics of his honestly don’t seem necessary to the plotline.

Amber Lewis is also a bit of a Mary Sue. Though I like her marginally more than Logan, she also has those unrealistic characteristics – pretty, smart, tragic past, you name it. Really, when am I going to meet a book character who’s not either unrealistic or clichéd these days?

And the plotline. I believe that the ideas expressed in this book are actual life lessons that others might benefit from. However, the plot? Sort of boring. Whenever a book focuses only on romance (and nothing else), I get bored. Where’s the action? Where are the guts? I should have known what I was getting into when Aris contacted me for a review request, but all the same, I miss those things.

My conclusion? Across Eternity was sort of a nice read. Sort of. I mean, I enjoyed the life lessons that I received from this book, but I wasn’t feeling the characters and the plotline. Add in the grammatical errors, and it just made me think that the book wasn’t professional enough.

I am so excited I was able to read an arc copy of Across Eternity by Aris Whittier. I was really intrigued by this story. After reading the first few chapters I was unable to put this book down. I was so drawn into the story that I had to see what happened next. This is a love story that pulls at your heart. I was balling in more than one place. ( so make sure you have some tissue near by) Aris has told a emotional love story that makes you stop and really think. It does contain a few swear words and a few love scenes with no graphic sexual content. A well written book with a good plot and vivid descriptions so you can see it all unfold. I look forward to Aris's next book. I would recommend this book. I am so excited to have discovered a new author!!!!

To my knowledge, I have read only one reincarnation romance before and it wasn't the main element or very well explained. To say I was curious is a mild understatement. I have the vague general notions that most people have about the belief of reincarnation so I wasn't sure what to expect. I confess that I can't quite wrap my mind around the idea. However, it was paired with romance and that I can definitely feel I have a solid foundation in as a reader so I plunged right in happily ready for what came.

Logan Richards knows that he shares a tie with a soulmate in a love affair that spans eternity. He and his love reincarnate and share a rich past lives and now he has found her once again. The twist is that only he remembers all the past lives and only he can feel the recognition when they meet. It is his job to coax her back into the knowledge of what they have together. Logan is good, handsome, and wealthy, but it is the connection he shares with Amber that means everything to him. Amber Lewis is struck by a sense of having known Logan before. She's pretty and works hard, has a good heart and now feels she's living her dream with Logan in her life. But all is not smooth sailing for the pair.

Across Eternity is a standalone romance and didn't take long to read actually, though I wouldn't say that it read particularly fast. In fact, there were times I felt it was basking in the glow of its mushy romantic feels rather than pushing forward through the plot.

So yes, this one was a sugary, touch-feely romance that was balanced by a bittersweet quality that comes out later and by the sense that I had from the reincarnation aspect that they would have to lose and then find and then re-establish their love again and again. I can't say that I disliked this story. However, I can't say that I was especially grabbed by it, either.

At first, I enjoyed the meet-cute, the first misunderstanding, and then the early days together, but then the shine wore off gradually and I wasn't taken with the overwhelming romantic feels. It's possible that it was a mood thing, but I also struggled with the characters themselves. Logan was perfect. No flaws to speak of and little growth. He was just there and I felt that way somewhat about Amber. For the longest time, I felt the big moment was them finding each other in those first few pages and I was simply reading their warm fuzzy happily ever after for chapter after chapter. There did end up being a wrench in the works. I start caring then, but only to a moderate degree because of the smothering sweetness and the how I kept thinking in the back of my mind that this scenario (the whole set up and story) couldn't really work because of the way the reincarnation was explained- or not explained, in this case. I read paranormal and sci-fi and fantasy quite a bit so I'm going with the fact that the rules of the reincarnation world the author established were bothering me and not reincarnation in general.

So, in the end, between the overly romantic tone and my struggles with the way the reincarnation element fit, I was left only okay with the book. I think either a different mood for me or maybe I wasn't the right audience in the first place since I was looking for more challenge either action-wise or character-wise and more explanation about the ins and outs of reincarnation. As to recommendation, I would cautiously recommend it to those who are in the mood for a saccharine romance and a little something different with a romance that is timeless in nature.

I persevered to the end but found this book really sickly sweet and repetitive. Perhaps I am just not romantic enough!

One love for all your lives. The concept is so beautiful, so intriguing and is what made this book incredible and unique. Once I’d started, I just couldn’t stop reading. It was another of those so-beautiful-it-actually-hurts books, and I loved every minute of it.

Logan first met her when he was three, before she was born – well, born in this time, at least. No one else could see her, because she was his, and he was hers and it had always been that way. It all changed when he was ten, because she had to be born. Her leaving was the most painful thing Logan had been through, and all that kept him going was the knowledge that she was out there somewhere, and that one day he would find her. And he did, twenty-seven years later, and the connection was there for them both. For Logan it wasn’t the first time: they were made for each other, and their love survived across all eternity...

Soulmates and past lives are something that’s always intrigued me, and Aris really bought the two to life, making me believe that it was possible for love to be so strong it would last forever. Normally, instant-connection-love is a little hit-and-miss, but in this case it was absolutely perfect: sweet, believable and I could completely feel the connection.

Logan was sincere, confident, beautiful and a genius: the man a girl can instantly fall for. To begin with I thought he was a little formal, but after a while I realised that’s just how he was: too smart for his own good! I loved how self-conscious and... humble, is the word I’d use to describe him: he didn’t like to show off how smart he really was. That’s what made me really love him. Well, that and how he was with Amber. Amber was kind, sweet, with a good sense of humour. I loved how she purposefully made Logan uncomfortable with silly things, because the way he reacted made me laugh. Their love was what carried the book, what made it magical, unforgettable, stunning.

The supporting characters were just as loveable, Logan’s family in particular. They really made me laugh, and the dynamics were just so amazing that I literally could have read a whole book just about them. His mother was by far the best, with her over-the-top reactions and her wonderful insanity. She was a classic mother hen, and I loved her!

Aris asked me to review Across Eternity from a YA-fiction-reader angle, to see if it’s something teens would like. I think it’s perfect. When you’re at that stage when you feel you are looking for something a little more that what teen and YA romance books have to offer, but are too young for adult romances, I think that you are at the perfect stage for this book. Even if you aren’t there, and just want an amazing romance with a twist, I recommend it. It contains a few love scenes, but nothing graphic... come to think of it, I’ve seen more graphics in YA novels... But more than that, it has a beauty about it, about how to accept death, destiny and things that are beyond your control. So, yes, Aris, I think you can definitely call this an Adult-YA crossover.

I laughed, I smiled and I cried my eyes out. I questioned so many things: do I believe in past lives?; do I believe is soulmates?; do I believe in love so powerful it never goes away? And after reading Across Eternity, I feel like I do, because how can something so beautiful not exist?

Across Eternity begins with Logan Richards, glacially calm entrepreneur, who wants one thing in life - to find the one thing he doesn't have and has always yearned to find...again. Logan always had a "special friend", one that no one else could see or hear. When he turns ten, his best friend tells him its time for her to go, to be born. And he promises her he will find her. Fast forward 27 years. Logan finally finds her, this time in the body of Amber Lewis, waitress and a vet in the school of hard knocks. The connection is instantaneous and mutually felt. Together they find their way to be together - calm waters and rough.

When I started, my first thought was "Oh ...Just like Sundays at Tiffany's" but as I read on, it wasn't at all. I think it had great bones and a fresh take, and at the end, its just where you want it to be - you just have to get through the initial feeling of stand-offishness and distance from the main characters. I wanted to like Amber & Logan, and I did eventually, but I would have like some more in depth quality time with them, more personal feeling, both separate and together. They were a little too cool and aloof at the start. What I did hands down love was the slow burn between Amber and Logan; Across Eternity isn't showy or obvious and I dug that a lot. The description of surroundings and characters was fantastic, but it felt hit or miss (I kept forgetting Logan's coloring and build, besides his blue eyes and I'm a visual reader, which may be a completely made up term) and I relish it when the scene is so well set, so more consistency in that area would really shore up the story. I also found a fresh breath of air in Rachael....Can we get more on her? She was fun, as was the sister, Anne, and the nephew, Kevin.

I refuse to do spoilers, because I have certain friends who would disown me, but I will tell you this - I did the ugly cry. You know what the ugly cry is - You're watching Steel Magnolias and it's at the graveyard scene, and Sally Fields is all "I can run all the way to Texas and back, BUT MY DAUGHTER CAN'T!" and you're sitting there with a mountain of tissue or toilet paper, crying with snot running into the tears, just like every other time you watch it. That, my friends, is the ugly cry, and Across Eternity brought me that. And yes, it is a good thing. It also brings an honest and open ending, which leaves this reviewer wanting more.

Logan and Amber are destined to be together. They come together each time they are reincarnated. Before Amber was born this time, she was Logan's constant childhood companion. After she left to be born, Logan made it his mission to find her again. But Amber doesn't remember anything from before this current reincarnation. This is the story of their current meeting in time.

This is a very romantic love story, based on the idea of destined love repeating through time. It was a very sweet read.

I found Amber to be a very likeable character. She had fire and doubts. She was the "ordinary" one, without any knowledge of the extraordinary relationship she was about to have. I found her emotions and reactions very understandable and reasonable. Logan was a bit harder to like. Sure he was the ideal rich handsome guy who swept Amber off her feet, but he seemed slightly one-dimensional. His character didn't have the depth or personality I was hoping for.

I will admit that I was a bit disappointed in the story. I expected it to be more than just a love story. The fact that Logan and Amber have a love that reincarnates led me to believe that this was something significant, and that something more would happen. But it was really just the story about their current lives. The fact that they have been lovers in past lives doesn't really mean anything, except to deepen the romance between them.

I found that as I was reading this, I kept having deja vu feelings, like I've read this before. I know I haven't, but I couldn't shake the feeling. It didn't detract from my reading, it just stuck out to me. I would recommend this to fans of sweet romance stories. This one is definitely about innocent love.

So okay, My friend Debbie Robinson recommended this book. Before I continue...curses!!!!
The humanity.
I cried. A lot. Yes, this book is not for the faint of heart. If you like a sweet, uncomplicated HEA, then this book is not for you. It is a love story, but ugh...

Any who, I'm trying not to give anything away, other to say it is a beautifully, heartbreaking love story.
Logan remembers his soul mate through his lifetimes. After 37 years, he finally finds her. Amber.

Once Amber sees him, that's it. They begin the most sweet, unforgettable love story ever! Sunsets, hammock cuddles, traveling, you name it. Logan is the most perfect guy ever...until...

Oh yeah, that bad.
But never fear, I hung on tightly to denial, holding hands with hope and renewed faith of a HEA just around the corner...

Right? Anytime now. Then I get to 98%.

yup. So after I finished the book, I calmly left a FB post for the author but I think this says it all.

pretty much sums it up. Great book though. Don't forget the tissues when you sit down to read.

From first glance, this book reads as a love story that is at first sight, deep and life-changing, but upon further investigation the heart of this book is a matter of debate - reincarnation. First, let me express that I wasn't quite sure about this whole reincarnation thing as I was brought up that beyond your one life that you live there are two options - Heaven and Hell. Now that I studied religion in a school setting and I hold a minor in the study of religion - I respect the idea of reincarnation, but I still adhere to the one life that I live, now the after that one life I am still debating.

Now that you all know my thoughts on this aspect of the book which is the heart of it. I still enjoyed the book because I read it as a sweet love story that is so moving that I felt for these characters that they found each other and would eventually have to part from one another. Of course the language of the book, referenced that they would see each other again - take what you would like, but I was able to enjoy this book despite not completing believing in the reincarnation thought.

A love story that is endearing and makes you enjoy the thought that true love exists and can sneak up on you around any corner.

Despite the many good reviews this book has received, I can't do it. This is one of those books I finished reading just because I wanted it over with. The reason it's not rated a one, is because at least I wanted to get the book finished and didn't just brush it aside.

The characters are so unbelievable. And while that could be tolerable since the plot was also unbelievable (two people fall in love and reincarnation and that jazz,) it just wasn't handled well.

Plot: Man and woman are two souls that have lived many lives together. Man remembers those past lives. Woman doesn't. Man spends whole life searching for woman. Man finds woman. They fall madly in love. Woman remembers some things. Man dies.

The book was just cheesy. So much staring into each other's eyes and whatnot.

One of the things that threw me the most about the book though was that Logan (the man) was able to see Amber (the woman) when he was a kid, before her soul was born into a new body. He couldn't see ghosts. He just could see Amber. That has never been my understanding of reincarnation and it jarred me from the start. Their souls may be intertwined, but seeing ghosts? I don't get it.

What if you only had one love for all of your lives? What if you keep meeting again and again during each reincarnation from Roman times to present? How would you react? How would you explain it to the other person who is completely innocent of it all?
Across Eternity answers these questions and more. Logan Richards met Amber when he was three and she had yet to be born this time around. She was his waitress and they felt an immediate “knowing” that they kinda sorta knew each other. But they had never met in this lifetime. Logan knows everything about Amber and she has little knowledge of him. She doesn’t even know he owns the restaurant!
A chance meeting turns into a time of revealing. Amber doesn’t really know if she should play along with Logan or not but, after several weeks together; she comes full circle and understands it all. But does she make this discovery in time?
Excellent writing, splendid characters and beautiful descriptions of the world. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to rereading it with more knowledge than I had the first time around.

Across Eternity is the story of Amber Lewis, a twenty-something waitress. One night she waits on Logan Richards, a wealthy, successful and smart thirty-seven year old man. Over the course of twenty-fours they fall madly in love. Logan seems familiar to Amber and he's desperate to get her to remember why.

I think this book had a good plot outline for the most part, it just needed a lot more story and character development. There was too much telling me the story instead of showing me the story. I didn't feel any chemistry between Logan and Amber and most of their dialogue seemed stilted and awkward. Consequently, I didn't care that much how things ended up between them.

In reading other reviews on GoodReads and Amazon, it appears I'm in the minority in not liking this book so feel free to poke around on those sites and see what others are saying.

I am so thankful that this book was recommended to me because I'm afraid I might never have found it if it wasn't for that and I'm beyond thankful I did.

The premise behind this story pulled me in right from the beginning. Two souls bound together through multiple lifetimes lived and finding each other in a current one. It was well written, the characters were well developed and it pulls at your heartstrings and never stops pulling right up until the very end.

This is an emotional read, so those that read it should have tissues on hand and be ready for ugly crying because I assure you, it's so beautiful and tragic it will happen. A truly beautiful read that has the ability to stay with you long after it's been read.

Across Eternity is a bittersweet love story about star-crossed soul mates who have spent many lifetimes together. After our intrepid hero spends his entire thirty-seven years searching the globe for his one true love, they finally reunite only to have this lifetime cut short. I've never read a love story centering around the idea of reincarnation, and I found it to be a unique and interesting premise. I really enjoyed the deep connection that Logan and Amber share, and can very much relate to a relationship which transcends the physical, crossing over into the intellectual and spiritual. I feel that I have that in my own marriage, and believe those relationships are the best and most fulfilling that life has to offer. I couldn't help but love all the deeply romantic moments that the author created between this couple: Their first night together on the beach, their first kiss, lunch at the English Tea Room, watching the sunset at Logan's quiet spot, and Logan's proposal, to name a few. They were all brimming with sweetness and intimacy. I also love how Logan and Amber's conversations take on a teasing tone as they get to know each other. Everything simply came together to create a truly romantic atmosphere and give the sense that this couple was definitely connected in a way that cannot be explained through the natural world.

Logan is an absolute charmer and a persistent one at that. Without the reincarnation element, his initial pursuit of Amber might have seemed a bit stalkerish, and her willingness to go to his house after only knowing him for one day would have been weird too. However, Logan never behaved as anything other than a perfect and chivalrous gentleman. In fact, he held back his desires for a long time, out of consideration for her feelings and wanting her to remember their past lives together, even when Amber was making it abundantly clear that she wanted to take their relationship to the next level. I loved that Logan was an absolute genius, yet was extremely humble about his intelligence and accomplishments. I also adored that he was an avid reader, and the man's library was positively to die for. Logan was a great family man too. The scenes with him, his mother, sister and nephew were just brimming with love and humor. Logan was quite simply a sweet, gentle, loving, giving and all-around amazing man which is part of why this story broke my heart into a million pieces.

Amber is a waitress who is struggling both financially and with the meaning of life itself when Logan “rides to her rescue.” The only real family she had was her sister, Heather, who taught her a lot about both living and dying. I could really relate to Amber's fears and her admiration for Heather for her lack of it, as well as Amber's feelings of not quite knowing where she belongs in the world. I liked that Amber was open-minded enough to believe Logan when he told her that they had spent past lives together, even though she couldn't remember the way he did and initially only had a gut feeling that she'd met him before. She does go back and forth quite a bit between getting upset and getting over it. At first, this was a little troubling and I wished that the author had explained her feelings a bit more in depth. Later though, I fully understood that she was wrestling with a sense of denial and not wanting to let go of the love she had just found. Ultimately, Amber was every bit as loving and generous as Logan even though it tore her heart out to give him that part of herself.

Across Eternity was certainly a poignant love story, but as with many self-published works I've read, it tended to get bogged down by editing and technical issues. I found numerous small errors such as typos, misspelled/incorrect/missing words, run-on sentences, etc. In some places, the dialog was just about perfect for conveying the emotions and atmosphere of the scene, but in others, it seemed to drag, with a lot of words being spoken but not a lot being said. I also felt that the narrative in general could have benefited from a bit more detail, and the prose could have been much richer and more varied. As is, the composition had a rather amateurish feel to it, in my opinion. However, I have to give the author extra points for drawing me into this couple's journey and really taking me through all the emotional highs and lows that they experienced throughout the story. In the end, even knowing that they will eventually find each other again, I was still torn up inside, and although it didn't exactly feel good, it was still quite beautiful. I have to give Ms. Whittier credit for making me feel that way and for making me care so much about her characters. As long as the reader isn't bothered by a lot of composition errors, I would recommend Across Eternity to anyone who enjoys a good tear-jerker. Now, I have to go find an HEA romance to heal my poor, wounded heart.:-)

Sweet, Heartbreaking and Uplifting!

The Rundown:
What would you do with your life if you knew your time was limited or transmigratory? What would you do if you knew things others didn't? If you could see into the past, know the outcome of the present and have a certainty of the future that was unwavering?

Logan Richards has this insight. From a very young age, he knew he was different because he could feel and see things from lives long past, he could see and feel his other half and he knew without a doubt how things would turn out. He knew searching for his one true soul mate would keep him bound to this place and time and once he found her, he knew his life would be complete.

Amber Lewis has a straightforward life. Though she didn't have the best parental role models growing up, her one constant was her older sister who she took care of until she wasted away to nothing from disease. Now she works two jobs, over extending herself to take care of the heavy medical expenses. She’s going nowhere fast and is stuck in the mundane, not really living, just surviving. Her life is simple, busy yet uneventful. That is until one night when she meets the eyes of a perfect stranger who feels so familiar.

She can tell from the moment she meets him, something is different, a knowing, a connection so intense, she can’t fight the feelings he causes within her or the urge to be with him. She knows he feels it too but she can also tell he’s hiding things. When he finally opens up to her, things are never the same and thats when they both truly begin to live.

The Review:
Though Logan seems to have some special gift, this is not a paranormal story but a romantic story of strong beliefs and love that can span Across Eternity. I really enjoyed this read, the message it delivers and the idea of a perfect love. Can you imagine there is one person who completes you and fulfills you throughout all of eternity and that connection is so strong, you live infinite lifetimes searching out and pairing with that one soul? Soul mates is a hard concept for a lot of people but I could tell from the start, there was more to this couple then merely a love story. Their connection was a bit hard to grasp in the beginning but the reader believes it because Logan believes it so firmly.

This story has a strong theme thats powerful, inspiring, heartbreaking and absolutely beautiful.

The writing and world and character building were very well done. In fact, I'm not a crier but I’ll admit, this story was so poignant, it had me in tears by the end.

Wishlist...
The beginning and end of this read was what pulled it out of a lower star rating. I really enjoyed watching Logan and Amber come together and I loved the ending in all its emotional angsty-ness. However, the middle stalled a bit for me. Not much happened and it seemed to drag a bit as we watched Logan and Amber go through their daily lives with family activities and inconsequential events.

Also, I would have loved if we got further insight as to “why” Logan was special. There’s a twist at the end that could explain it all away but I wanted definitive answers as to why he could see the spirit of who would eventually become Amber, when he was a child and why he retained his memories of her when she couldn’t remember anything. There was an “eternity” of emotional memories, events and passion to pull from but with Amber not remembering and Logan not talking about it, it left a lot of unanswered questions. But at the same time, it left a bit of mystery to the story so both were equal parts good and frustrating.

The Wrap Up:
This was an unconventional and unique story that was sweet, romantic and fun. There were laugh out loud moments, meaningful moments and tear jerking moments. I would totally re-read this one again and definitely suggest it to my friends for a quick but profound read and I'll certainly be checking out other reads by Aris Whittier.

Across Eternity is.... something. It's a beautiful love story, written by Aris Whittier. But it's not a typical love story. It is the story of soul mates Logan and Amber. It begins with Logan spotting Amber as he's driving down the street in the California coastal town he lives in. She is walking into a restaurant, and the prologue ends with the words "It's really her." Then the first chapter begins with the first time Logan meets her, when he is three years old.

Warning: This will be a bit spoilery, but there is no way for me to talk about this book otherwise.

Logan has a best friend, who no one else can see. She is a little girl that is his constant companion, playing together and reading books together. She is there for him through the difficult times in his life. Then, when Logan is ten, she tells him she's about to be born into a body, and she won't remember him. He is special, she tells him, because he can see her when not many other people can, and he will remember her. She, however, won't be able to remember him. When he is fifteen, he starts dreaming about her, but as a partner, lover, spouse, instead of just as a friend. He goes to college, earns several degrees, and travels the world repeatedly.

But I'm getting ahead of the story. He gets a table at the restaurant she entered, because it turns out she's a waitress there. He watches her for a while, then convinces the manager to let her join him and they talk for two hours. She things he's familiar, but can't place him. He knows who she is, and they have a connection that confuses her as it thrills him. She later finds out he owns the restaurant, along with several others, and gets angry, thinking he's playing a game to find a girl to have some fun with. They end up talking all night after she confronts him, and start to spend more time together. He knows she is his soul mate, the spirit of his childhood, and knows from his dreams that they have always been together, married in many past lives. She can't understand the connection and familiarity she feels with him, but the memories of him that haven't happened convince her to give their relationship a try.

He tells her that all his degrees were killing time, and his world travels were searching for her. He knew when she was born, when he was ten, but not where or in which body. He was shocked to learn she lived in the same town as him. She meets his family, and eventually leaves her waitressing job and they travel together for a while. Before they start traveling, he reveals a secret to her: he is going to die soon. He insists he is not sick, and definitely not suicidal, but he just knows his time is near. He had been waiting for her since he was ten, and now that he found her he is sure it won't be much longer. They end their trip in Ireland, since she mentioned once she'd always wanted to visit there. He surprises her with a cottage, and proposes over dinner at a local pub. A judge is dining the same night and marries them on the spot.

A few weeks after returning from their travels, he begins having strange symptoms. Dizziness, headaches, fatigue, and then he passes away in his sleep, holding onto Amber as he goes. Heartbroken, she calls his family. When they arrive, his mother tells Amber that when Logan was four he was diagnosed with a rare, terminal disease. His insomnia, and his intellect (he began college at age 13) were caused by the disease. The doctors had predicted he'd die by the age of 12, but he always told his mother he would live until he found his mate. He made it possible for Amber to fulfill her dreams of going to college and becoming a doctor. The book ends ten years later, with Amber watching the sunset from the balcony of a restaurant they loved, and being addressed as Doctor Richards.

What I liked: This was a beautiful story. Logan and Amber have something special and it's easy to see. I loved Logan's relationships with his mother, sister, and nephew. I also liked the book's way of viewing death: everyone will die, so there is no need to be afraid. Instead, live life fully and without regret.

What I didn't like: The mystery, unnamed terminal illness with no symptoms other than genius and insomnia. It's reminiscent of the John Travolta movie Phenomenon. Also, I was getting a City of Angels feeling from the book. so the ending did not really surprise me.

Overall, I give the book four stars.

Goodreads book blurb

Born a genius; education, wealth, and prestige came easy to Logan Richards. Actually, there wasn't much that Logan couldn't learn or acquire. However, he knew there was more to life than money and power. Logan was determined to find the woman who he'd dreamed of his entire life and know what it was like to love her before he died.
Amber Lewis, a waitress for a five-star restaurant in, Dana Point, California, was overworked, stressed, and wary of life since her sister, Heather, had passed away. Then, one evening while working she fell hopelessly in love with Logan Richards, a chivalrous man who felt deeply familiar.
For Amber, it was the beginning of a voyage of self-discovery and renewal. For Logan, it was the completion of life. For each of them it was the deepest sort of love.

My Thoughts

First I would like to say thank you to the author for approaching me to read
Across Eternity
, even though it made me cry so hard I could not see in many places it also gave me a sense of peace and joy by the time I finished the book!

For the first time in my entire romance reader's journey I have found a book that encompassed an entire spectrum of feelings that left me totally drained and yet emotionally calm at the end... Logan and Amber are the most evocative characters in a book that I have come across and enjoyed meeting in many years. Not only did I truly connect with them logically as characters who could be real people but I connected with them emotionally as well... Author Aris Whittier has created a truly thought provoking romance story that will bring you to your knees with grief, will make you shout from the rooftops with the happiness you share with the couple and ultimately make you think long and hard about love and family and life in all it's many twists and turns! Everything in this book from the scenery to the relationships to the life changing dramas that it portrays will draw you in and never let you go until the story is over. This is truly a book that many people will read and feel totally enriched from the wonderful message of hope it contains!

One of my favorite quotes from the book made perfect sense well before I turned the last page.

"It is what it is and it's okay. I'll be okay, you'll be okay, and the world will keep turning."

Quite simply no matter what happens the world does not stop when someone is at the end of their journey, we still have plenty to be thankful for and plenty that is worth living for and enjoying from one day to the next... This particular lesson is one that Logan taught Amber and maybe if we take it to heart we can learn it as well!

I have to disclose that this book was an e-arc copy submitted to me by the author for an honest review and that there is no other compensation from her or the publisher except my reading pleasure and enjoyment of the characters depicted in the story.

WHAT I THOUGHT

I would like to see this as a movie is what I thought.

It’s what you dream about, isn’t it, love that is so strong it lasts for eternity. In this case love lasted and travelled across time. Logan had waited a very long time for his love to be realised and oh what a love that was. Logan was completely and utterly in love with Amber and after finding her it didn’t take long for his love to be reciprocated, romance to blossom and deepen and become one of those everlasting loves which makes the heart feel full and like it’s cloaked in soft red velvet.

Across Eternity is a beautiful love story. I admit to being lost in the romance of it all. It just had this whimsical, romantic, good vibe about it. Right from the beginning I thought this was a fantastic idea for a novel and I loved the storyline. As mentioned above, I think it would be great for a movie and I already have in mind who will play the lead characters (which I’ll keep in my mind so as not to put pictures in your head if you are going to read this one).

Speaking of characters, I found them completely likeable and equally so. There was a realness about them and speaking of that, I read this like it could happen – didn’t find anything strange about the storyline at all. I mean, who knows, perhaps these kinds of things do happen in a roundabout kind of way and if they don’t then I still don’t think it is that far-fetched. For a love story of this kind there didn’t seem to be anything too fantastical about it – it was just meant to be.

And now I feel I must also mention the following:

The editing was not up to scratch and it altered my reading experience. It seemed to get worse the longer I kept reading and unfortunately it did take away my good vibe feeling and I believe it took away from the story. It has been a while since I read Across Eternity and so I cannot be more specific other than to say the editing was poor and it left a lasting impression.

However, I contacted Aris to give the heads up about my editing comment and was advised that I was provided with an uncorrected proof. Aris very kindly provided me with a corrected proof. Unfortunately I have not had time to re-read the updated version which Aris sent me so I cannot compare.

I mention this because I must give a true account of the copy I did read but please remember it was not the finished product.

And lastly I would like to say Aris has been very patient. I have very limited time to read from my computer and it was roughly 6 months before I read Across Eternity and following that it has been a further few months before I have posted this review (I was thinking I could read the updated version but decided I just don’t have the time).

My thanks to Aris Whittier for providing me with a copy of Across Eternity and for being so patient – thanks, Aris!

"Remember, anything is possible." Those are Logan's words to Amber, shortly after he meets her in the fancy restaurant where she works.

Yes, anything is possible. It is possible that two souls meant to be together, continuously find one another, time after time. That even death does not destroy the connection the two souls have to one another. Death simply disrupts their time, until they can be together again. That is what happens between Logan and Amber.

Logan is a rich entrepreneur who is seeking out his soul-mate. He knows her well. Her name, face and features may change, but the person inside and the connection they have cannot be broken. Logan is special. He is someone who loves with every ounce of his being. He traveled the world to find her. He remembers everything. When he finds Amber, he has to learn who she is now and help her to remember who they had been before. He's known her all his life and if he can convince her to give him a chance, he can help her to learn what love is and bring her to a place where she can have everything she's ever dreamed of. The only problem is explaining everything to her. Instead of just telling her, he goes about trying to show her and helping her to see the amazing truth herself.

Amber feels a connection to Logan the moment she sets eyes on him. She can't explain it, but she is drawn to him. She agrees to spend time with him, not knowing who he is but feeling that she wants to understand him. They start off slow and Amber learns that Logan is a man with many talents and has a good heart. The more time they spend together, the more she questions everything. Logan shares some details with her, but yet she doesn't remember him. The closer the two become, the more Amber falls for him.

If you've ever read a Nicholas Sparks book, you will enjoy Across Eternity. You will need a box of tissues at the end though because this love story is romantic and bittersweet. I won't spoil the ending or tell you too many details, because that would ruin it for you. I will just say that Ms. Whittier has created a beautiful story that engages the heart and makes the reader wonder about true love and soul mates. I felt my heart soar throughout the story and ache by the end. Bittersweet covers the essence of this story the best.

Learn to love, learn to live, and learn to let go. These are the greatest gifts we can give to others. Live the life you heart begs for. Love the people in your life. When it's time, let them go from this place, knowing they are never truly gone.

4,5/5

I feel extremely lucky that Aris Whittier asked me to review her book Across Eternity, and that I had a chance to read this amazing book. As soon as I read the summary, I was sold immediately and once I started reading I couldn't put it down.

This book is about love, love, love, love! Eternal and unconditional love.
Logan has spent all his life looking for the woman he could only dream about when he was young. Now, he finally finds her in Amber, a waiter in a five-star restaurant.
Amber imediattely falls for Logan, all the while feeling like she've known him all her life in some deep subconscious level. She doesn't hesitate to embark on a journey with him, where they discover that the love they felt, feel and will feel for each other is forever.

Across Eternity is such a beautiful and emotional book! It's not a question of whether I liked the plot or the characters because there really was nothing NOT to like! I loved both Logan and Amber.
Logan is a man that has been through a lot in his life and it shows. Granted, he was super smart (college at 13) and very very rich, but you could tell that none of that filled the void in his life and in his heart. And the, what seems, eternal search for his soulmate, has worn him down a lot. It was worth it though, because when he finds Amber, he feels alive again.
Amber has some baggage of her own. Having gone through the tragedy of her sister's untimely death, she struggles to find something in her life that will give her the hope and the strength she needs to go on. Then she finds Logan, someone that loves her truly, deeply and unconditionally and she just can't believe how lucky she is.

I loved Across Eternity, it's story and the message that it gets across.
Never has a book made me cry. Even if I said so in my previous reviews, don't believe me! Because I didn't know what crying was until I read Across Eternity. And that's all I'm gonna leave you with.
Despite how sad you feel by the end of the book though, I believe that what the reader should learn/gain from Across Eternity is optimism, hopefulness and encouragement to do anything they want in life because they simply can, and to enjoy it to the fullest.

If you are contemporary romance fans, read Across Eternity now! if you aren't, read it anyway. It's that good!

To be frank, the reason that Across Eternity really blew me away was because, going into it, I didn't know what to expect. When I first read the synopsis, I thought interesting. But then, thinking about it, I was really of a mind to believe that it was going to be your typical romance novel so I didn't go into it expecting something new and different from what I've read before.

This book deserves the highest of praises from me, as it went so far as to have me laughing out loud and then tearing up like crazy while I was reading it. I love books that truly tap into my emotions; Across Eternity definitely does that. And, as another plus in its favor, I was so absorbed in the tale that I really couldn't put it down and finished it within two hours. Although it has the typical elements of romance novels, something about it just clicked with me and had me speeding through the pages.

I thought, however, that Logan and Amber were slightly too stereotypical for my tastes - he being the handsome, intelligent, rich, mysterious man and she the beautiful, naive girl that he falls for. This did not prevent me, however, from enjoying myself as I got a front row seat to watching their relationship unfold. I thought it was sweet, and I just about died of the romantic bits in the book. Aris wrote some really great scenes between the pair, scenes that had me believing in them and rooting for them to get their happy ending.

I also enjoyed reading the little parts with secondary characters, especially Logan's family Kevin, Anna and Marian. They were all such interesting personalities, and their warmth and love for Logan and Amber made me love them as well. Plus, it's always fun for me to read about families in books!

The story's quite simple, but Aris weaves the plot together tightly and effortlessly. She effectively showcases Logan and Amber's relationship and entices us into falling in love with the pair - before she suddenly and abruptly pulls the rug out from underneath our feet, so to speak.

Though the book is bittersweet, I commend Aris for writing a beautiful love story and would definitely recommend this to fans of romance.

Do you believe in a soulmate? I do, I believe my husband is mine. He completes my heart and I truly would feel lost without him. What will happen when one of us dies? Will we meet again someday in Heaven or in another life?

Across Eternity answers these questions in a profound story about how deep a love can be. I was drawn to Logan and Amber’s story and want to believe that their love can last through many lifetimes. The story starts in the present day with Logan’s desperate need to meet the woman who has just crossed the street in front of his car. He knows it’s the woman from his dreams and he must meet her.

The author gave us periodic flashbacks of Logan and Amber’s past life and how the last time they saw each other, Logan made a promise to Amber that not even death could make him forget. The flashbacks helped to develop the character’s backstory and I wish there were more details from their past to really demonstrate the purity and depth of their love. I felt like Logan told me in so many words how much he loved Amber but wanted more in their development and backstory.

Logan was a charming and interesting character. A handsome, genius billionaire who doted on his girlfriend and tried to make all her wishes come true lifetime after lifetime, what girl wouldn’t fall for that? He has his quirks and secrets though which made for some very unique twists in the book. Amber has had a hard life for such a young woman. She lost her sister, her roommate and best friend, to cancer and was her caregiver before her sister’s death. Her experience has made her question her life and the afterlife, will she ever see or feel her sister again? Amber has reservations when the handsome stranger enters her life and tries to sweep her off her feet. How can she trust someone she hardly knows? Yet she finds him strangely familiar, should she trust her heart?

Overall, I enjoyed the twists and turns in the story that reminds me of The Time Traveler’s Wife. This was an enjoyable and easy read with thought-provoking notions, bringing up questions about the afterlife and how long can true love really last. If you’re a romantic at heart, you might enjoy this book.

Logan Richards grew up in Napa Valley - a genius who started college at the age of 13, until he was 10 years old, he had an imaginary friend that visited him and talked to him all of the time.

Amber Lewis is a waitress whose sister Heather died of cancer a year ago. Now she is just trying to work and find her way through life.

When Logan sees Amber at a restaurant, he is instantly drawn to her. For this reader, the deep attraction was puzzling until we realize that Logan feels that he's known Amber before ... actually, forever .. through many lives.

Amber is, quite intelligently, a bit put off by the seemingly wealthy man and his keen interest, although she is encouraged by a fellow waitress and friend to see what happens.

As their relationship develops, the reader is taken with them on their discovery of each other, their life and travels together, Logan's wonderful family, and their parting (serious romantics should have tissue ready).

This book is pure clean romance. In the beginning, I found the prose a bit overblown and stilted; however, as I read, I almost couldn't help being interested in the back story of these two souls who seem to find each other through every life. I rejoiced along with Amber at her feeling of belonging, and could almost picture the Irish countryside and pub that they visited on one journey.

There are some editing issues (transitions, flow, etc.) - for me, the biggest gaffe was that Logan speaks of his father and we see two different names (Dennis and Adam). It is also a bit saccharine for my personal taste, but for lovers of sweet romance it should perfectly fit the bill.

QUOTE:

He wanted her to know that they always met up. No matter what the lifetime or who they were they always connected. But he knew it would be better if she remembered on her own.

This book has a brilliant theme and great reading. I was surprised by this romance and the way it was laid down on the pages. It is based on a theme of re-incarnation or the existence of more than just one life that hasn’t been overdone yet. This author picked a great theme, one that many adults wonder about and would love to read.
Logan is a young boy who has a very special gift. He is aware of a lot more things than the adults around him know. He has a really special playmate, a girl who is always with him and has been for as long as he remembers. She even spent days and nights with him when his father died. The loneliness was easier with her at his side.
Everything is perfect for him and his playmate until he turns ten and she has to be born. That should thrill him to no end, because now she will be real and he can touch her. But the problem is that when she is born she will forget him completely. He swears to her that he will wait and find her and remind her how close they were before she was born. The other problem is that he doesn’t know where she will be born or what she will look like. Yet, true to his words, he lives his life fully and on the lookout for her.
Time passes slowly and lonely for him. Now a successful entrepreneur of 37, he has the chance to visit the whole world to see if she is somewhere. This he does until he finally finds her. But how does a man approach the love of his life and tell her that they knew each other before she was born? Even worse, how does he convince her to love him the way he has loved her all these years? What about the feelings that they have been a couple in other lives and times? There is a long wait ahead for him, but patience is the key to their relationship. Except that he is running out of time rapidly.
The story is interesting, yet it has some unnecessary swearing and some repetitions that slow the story down somewhat. I believe that some editing will bring out the true potential of this story. I recommend it to adults, because of scattered adult talk and scenes.

I enjoyed many things about this book. First, I liked the unwavering devotion of Logan. He was a man of strength and determination as well as patience. His persistence in finding his love was touching. While I, myself, do not believe in reincarnation, I do believe that we existed before this earth and that we continue on after this life. I really do believe that love can last an eternity and you are lucky if you can find and make a life of love and devotion with someone that will be fulfilling throughout eternity.

Second, I was very touched by the real emotions towards the end of the book. I cried, and that is saying something because I tend to be pretty good at keeping those emotions in check. It takes a fair amount of talent to bring real and raw emotions across in a book.

I guess I could relate better to Amber as she is a bit confused through most of the book. Because she doesn't have access to the inside track of memories from her lives before with Logan, she feels frustration and sometimes anger. I liked how Amber learned more about herself with Logan. He taught her to have courage and believe in herself. He taught her to live life fully. Of course, it didn't hurt that Logan was filthy rich and could give her anything she wanted.

I sort of wished that because the story was built on reincarnation that we could have had more story before or after the life we were watching. The focus was just on the right now life and I guess I just wish I could have seen more of them together and satisfied in previous or next lives. Gee, I hope that made sense.

This book did have sex and it wasn't behind closed doors. That's not to say it was crass or overly detailed, but it crossed a line that I, personally, have set for myself. It also contained swearing.

My thanks to Aris for sending me her book to read. I wish her the best with her writing efforts as she has much talent to offer the world. :)

Logan has spent his whole life loving one woman. A woman he knew lifetime after lifetime. A woman he has to find in this lifetime before it is too late. Eventually, fate finds a way to bring them together.
Amber has had a tough life. Absentee parents, the death of her sister and massive debt have made her not trust easily. But when her eyes meet Logan’s, she has no choice but to fall head over heels and give him both her heart and her trust.
Across Eternity by Aris Whittier is a book about true love that spans lifetimes. Two souls are destined to find each other each time they live, no matter how long it takes. The premise is sweet and the characters are lovable, but as I read more and more of the story, I found myself growing less attached to them.
The idea of fated love is a favorite of mine. Two souls burning only for each other with a passion that can set eternity on fire is as desirable as it is hard to imagine. I found the beginning of Across Eternity drew a picture of this passion that made me want to read more. I was hooked. As I moved ahead, it seemed as if the passion ebbed. The story became somber and I couldn’t help but feel that Logan was willing his own fate. Even though this is explained at the end, I was still left with a feeling that he wasn’t playing fair. It made the ending for me anticlimactic. Amber’s character was also somewhat of a mystery to me as I read on. She started as a strong, independent female lead, but she walked away from her life without a backward glance. What happened to her debt and her day to day life? This really wasn’t explained. Even when we’re swept away with love, there are still loose ends that have to be tied up.
All in all, Across Eternity is a sweet novel about two souls destined to be together forever. A nice smooth read for a rainy day. I thank the author for a review copy and I give the book 3 stars.

From my blog:

When Logan Richards was just a small boy, a girl suddenly appeared to him. Not an imaginery friend, but, a kindred soul who was always at his side. No one else could see this girl, or even knew that she existed. But, for Logan, she was his best friend and constant companion. He knew, even at his young age, that she was his soulmate. Years later, during adolescence, things changed. The girl told Logan that she was going away. It was time for her to be born into the real world. And, once she became part of the real world, she would no longer remember Logan and their special times together. It would be up to him to find her, somewhere out there in the world, and help her remember.

Now, Logan Richards is a highly successful businessman. He has money and power but is still missing something. That girl who meant so much to him as a child, that he spent years dreaming of after she was gone...he simply knows he has to find her to be complete. And, find her he does - a waitress named Amber who works in one of his restaurants. Amber feels an instant connection to Logan, but she doesn't quite understand it. Will he be able to make her remember their special bond and fulfill their destiny? And, will an unforeseen twist tear them apart or make their relationship even more meaningful?

This is a love story that transcends time. It's a quick, romantic read. There are certain things about the story that do not unfold right away, and when they do, it's pretty heart-wrenching (you may want to have some tissues nearby). I like the mystical and spiritual aspects of Logan and Amber's relationship. It's a little different from the typical romance novels and the story twist that eventually unfolds was very unexpected.
