Samuel Wainer was a visionary. It was really pleasent reading about his life: his actions were changing Brazilian imprense ALL THE TIME! It was magic!
Unfortunatelly, Samuel is a little full of himself (he has this right, but it's not because you can that you should) and this pissed me off a little bit.
What I liked the most about his entire life is his friendship with President Vargas. They had an unique relanshionship and Vargas supported him even when it could be bad to his politic.
My favorite part was when Sameul tried to 'broke up' with Vargas: he went to see him and couldn't. So he left a book and some pieces of paper that Vargas gave him on his house and left. Some time later, he receives a note, together with the book and papers. Vargas wrote: "There is no divorce in Brazil, Wainer.".
I LOVED THE JOKE! SO CREATIVE!
Still, it's a really good book and it helds, perhab, the most important period to Brazilian imprense, and stills true, even though it's so old (you can see by Vargas joke about the divorce).
I totally want to buy it and read it again sometime.

Leitura envolvente de uma autobiografia de rara sinceridade, que é também um livro de história do Brasil e do jornalismo brasileiro desde o Estado Novo até a ditadura militar. Wainer nos coloca nos bastidores do poder, o poder político, econômico e da mídia e sua interelação ( ou entrelação) promiscua. Imperdível

Um livro que nos foi passado ainda no primeiro ano do curso de Jornalismo e que se mostrou uma história fascinante, certamente despertando em nós o desejo de adentrarmos nesse mesmo mundo em que Samuel Weiner, contra todas as expectativas, brilhou (depois, é claro, a vida se encarregaria de nos trazer de volta à realidade).

Li esse livro no verão de 94/95, tinha 14 anos e me marcou profundamente. Amei o livro e acho que me estimulou a querer ler mais. Definitivamente um favorito.
