As a favor to her private-detective cousin, she's supposed to investigate Seahaven businessman Grady Palmer. From afar, not up close and personal. That’s impossible now that he’s spotted her.
So what’s an undercover PI to do when she starts falling for her subject? Especially because corruption’s afoot and Grady’s keeping almost as many secrets as Tori. Should she trust the clues – or her heart?
Darlene Gardner left her life as a newspaper sportswriter behind for love and romance. She has more than 30 books in print, from single-title romantic comedies to emotionally charged family dramas. She’s currently self publishing updated editions from her backlist and working on a series of Young Adult romances with paranormal elements. That is, when she’s not playing tennis.
The description of the book I am listing below is from the back jacket of the book. I'm adding it because I believe the one on the Goodreads page does not depict this story.
Tori Whitley is possibly the world's worst snoop. Who else would fall for the man she was investigating? As a favor to her private-detective cousin, she agrees to tail Seahaven businessman Grady Palmer. How hard can it be—especially following a man with such a cute rear end? But checking out Grady proves easy on the eyes and hard on her heart. He's packing charm, intelligence, and too many secrets. Tori has no choice but to discover the truth—by going undercover instead of going under the covers. And all the clues lead to one conclusion: To be a successful private eye, sometimes you have to follow your instincts . . . and hope you bag the man of your dreams.
Light & cheesy rom-com. Also featured a secondary romance as well. The plot is a bit ridiculous and the ending predictable. However, that's the style this book was going for. Felt like a fun Hallmark-y story. And a great book to distract me from too many heavy and serious novels in a row.
This book was horrible! The author couldn't even keep the names straight, so how is the reader supposed to? There were times when the author wrote the wrong name during conversations between two people that were talking, it made the book difficult to read and just annoying because it confused you to the point where you had to reread the entire conversation so you really knew who was talking. For example when Grady was telling Tori that he was adopted, the author called him by the wrong name. I mean, seriously come on!
3.5, really. I liked this book! It was fun and sweet and easy. It actually got better as it went along I think. The 'plot' is sort of nonsensical and you can see where its all going, but it made me happy. I actually liked the secondary romance - the sister and the guy - more than th emain one. Also I know incompetent is funny, but for awhile the heroine was like, TOO incompetent to be enjoyable. Still, it was sweet and funny and fun and I definitely enjoyed it.
It's listed as a romantic comedy and its far from humorous. The beginning of the book showed such promise and I did laugh once or twice but then the author got lost. After reading half the book, I gave up. The lead character was so pathetic and incompetent that I just couldn't get interested.
This book accomplishes it mission: cheesy-chic-lit romance with a bit of mystery thrown in (the main character is an inept PI), but there were too many grammatical errors, forcing me to deduct a star.
Quick read, good fun. Don't read this for the plot - which falls apart a bit at the end - but enjoy some pleasantly witty dialogue, a couple of decent set-piece scenes, and a bit of sparkle between H & h.
I liked the first two chapters and then I was over it. The characters weren't interesting and then new characters were introduced and I couldn't remember them by the time I picked up the book the following day. Could not finish.
I found the book a little slow moving at times and some of the characters too one dimensional. The plot line itself kept me reading through to the end.
Funny, cheezie and unrealistic. Please tell me how the FBI, during Grady's background check and job clearance, would not have known about the adoption.
Being a associate to an investigation organization does not justify breaking laws. The person is knowingly breaking the laws to get a supposed law breaker-- that is not clever or sound, to me.
Got this book free from Amazon. Its cute and likeable but it needs a lot of work. I didn't rate it since I didn't feel it would be fair since the book itself felt "incomplete" but it has potential.
