Annelisa Fielding has had the blessings of wealth her entire life, thanks to her industrialist father. However, there is one thing even he can't give a title. So he arranges a marriage between his daughter and the Earl of Swindon, Thornton Sutcliffe. As long as his future bride is a virgin, the Earl will tolerate the marrying down because in return for taking Annelisa as his wife, her father will pay off his debts. Everyone wins, as far as the men are concerned, but Annelisa wants more out of marriage than a title and is willing to wait.
But she won't be able to wait if she doesn't find some way out of the marriage and fast because the deal is in one month she'll become Lady Annelisa Sutcliffe. The solution to her problem? Count Nikolai Shetkolov, a diplomat in the service of the Tsar and stationed in England. An honorable man, he's the perfect person to help a young lady lose the one thing her odious future husband prizes most. But Annelisa must watch out or she may get more than she bargained for with Nikolai.
***BRIEF SUMMARY Annelisa's father Andrew, has arranged for his daughter to marry an Earl named Thornton. Annelisa is disgusted with the idea as well as with Thornton; a man more than twice her age, broke and only wants to marry a virgin. Though her father means well, Annelisa is also upset that he only wants her to marry for a title and not love. With a scheme that involves Count Nikolai, Annelia's plan could backfire.
***THOUGHTS The moment the story began it dove right into the plot of the story and I love that. The author brought us another wonderful story that not only engaged you, but also gave us wonderful characters. Annelisa was very stubborn. Her family and a bit of her characteristics remind me of Lizzie from Pride & Prejudice, but only a tiny bit. However, in the end I still loved reading about her. Nikolai, what a Russian hunk, he had me at good afternoon Miss; he was so perfect for Annelisa. In addition, a good blackmail only heightens the storyline for me, a very good read from this trilogy.
Storyline: GOOD Intimacy: GOOD Enjoyment: GOOD
This was a wonderful end to a novella series. The series is The Victorian Erotic Trilogy. The series isn’t connected by people but by the era.
Titles Vampire Dreams /A sexy vampire who pleasures in dreams
Love's Master /A sexual lover who is Dominant and found the perfect pupil
Masquerade /A sexy Russian who makes blackmailing sexy
It’s official Gabrielle Bisset fans and fans-to-be—1878 London is so much more exciting than 2011 Nevada! Might I recommend you get yourself a copy of Masquerade and dive in to this book? I adore these characters; Annalisa is intelligent, willful and quick-witted, and Nikolai is sexy as sin, playful and romantic.
Annalisa Fielding is a 25-year-old exceptionally educated woman whose marriage has been arranged for her, much to her dismay. Mr. Fielding has attained substantial wealth in his chemical business, but cannot provide his heirs with a prestigious title. Lord Sutcliffe possesses a title which puts him at a higher social status, but he is virtually penniless. Seems to be a win-win, right? Maybe for all involved excluding Annalisa! Why on earth would such a modern thinking woman put up with betrothal to a man double her age? Upon overhearing that her virginity is of utmost importance, a real deal breaker, she devises a plan. With an upcoming masquerade party—her father’s Russian diplomatic friend, Nikolai Shetkolov—and a mask in hand, she sets out to lose her virginity. For such an educated woman, she certainly gets herself into quite a mess with her foolish scheming. BUT…Nikolai, well educated himself, is quite the match when it comes to scheming.
If you have a few spare hours and a bag of Kit-Kats (or carrots for healthier people who will live 1.7 years longer than me), there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be reading Masquerade right now!

My Thoughts: Annelisa Fielding our heroine is impulsive and independent. I sympathized with her character very much with the whole marriage arrangement to a much older man. I liked how she took charge and did something to rectify her marriage arrangement. Not the smartest plan, I admit, and pretty forward for a virginal miss but Annelisa is definitely a woman ahead of the times. She has spunk and plenty of it.
Now Nikolai Shetkolov our hero is one sexy Russian diplomat. When he realizes that he unknowingly compromised Annelisa, he sets out to marry her. Since Annelisa refuses to accept his proposal he blackmails her into sleeping with him in exchange for his silence. Now in real life I would have kneed Nikolai where it counts but it worked for me in this storyline. He wanted to buy more time to convince Annelisa they belong together since she is set in her ways.
Once these two get together without any subterfuge the chemistry was sizzling. I loved watching these two come together. I wish the book was longer so we could have had more time to really get to know them as a couple. With the length being a novella, the author was still able put as much detail as possible for me to believe that these two will ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after.
I really liked these two and I liked the concept. I enjoyed this sexy Victorian romp and will definitely check out more of Gabrielle's book.
The pacing is great, the second characters are intrinsic to the plot development and, as always, Gabrielle surprises us when you think that everything is lost.
Annelisa is very drastic in her actions and incredibly stubborn- almost unbearably so! Nikolai is the type of character that you fall in love at the first line of dialogue. They’re both really strong characters, but on the other hand, I did wonder if certain blackmails were threatening enough that couldn’t have been fought back with more blackmail! But again, this is a novella and we didn’t have enough time for come backs or further persuasion.
Even though the story has its simplicity, it is very well written and edited. The English setting is vivid and I really enjoyed how it ended – I loved Masquerade!
Loved this one!!! it's my 2nd favourite of Victorian Erotic series... I loved Nikolai... He's so hot, intellegent & patient and he is also a good tactician... I also loved Annelisa. Well, I loved all the characters in this series. <3
I'm didn't enjoy this book as much as the first two in the series. The story was good, but it just didn't grab me. Would definitely read more books by this author
Finished the trilogy. Think this one was my least favorite.
Girl seeks to lose virginity to avoid marriage to an odious earl.
Which she does, and despite her disguise (at a masquerade ball) her seducer figures out who she is and offers marriage. She refuses. He then blackmails her for sex.
This is a romance and of course we get our HEA--so true love ensues.
But what was with him ordering her to dress like a man when she came to his house? Thought that was just dumb.
Gabrielle Bisset has given us a wonderful story about a heroine who wants to get back at her father, by going to a masquade ball to find a certain someone
She finds more than she bargains for in gorgeous sensual Russian.
I really loved this story of Victorian England.
The heroine was a very modern miss for her time.
The hero was someone who I fell in love with. Hes one sensual romantic hero.
This book was incredible and I loved every minute. Gabrielle has a way of pulling you in from the beginning and creating such a wonderful world you will find it impossible to leave. The story that unfolded was very addicting and I loved the characters. I definitely recommend this book and I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
