First published in 1899, Vitalogy is a home health reference, and its advice, both strangely prescient and very dated, is once more at the cutting edge.
Vitalogy, first published in 1899 and expanded and updated in 1930, was the most popular and influential home health encyclopedia of its day. In the 1990s it inspired a major album by the rock band Pearl Jam. We have selected and reproduced four chapters from the 1930 edition.
Yes, I was inspired to read this book but my favorite band Pearl Jam & I'm so so so glad that I did. I love this book not only for the medical aspect but for the ideas that they had back then regarding medical treatments and causes of diseases. It is interesting, comical at times, and it's thought-provoking and I absolutely love it!
Amazing 1930's compendium of medical and herbal knowledge! This was home medicine before the discovery of penicillin, complete with intricate paper-fold anatomical depictions of the human body, head & brain.
