A Protector in Ter Chadain and a royal heir with claims to the throne he now held.
Logan and Teah Lassain witness the violent murder of their family and narrowly escape. They now find themselves not only thrust into the revolution, but the keys to the reunification of Ter Chadain.

I haven't read true fantasy since Mercedes Lackey back in high school but I have heard great things about this author so I gave it a go. Nice job! It was fresh and inventive with a perspective I enjoyed. We got to be in both main characters' heads often enough to round out the plot. So much would have been lost if we hadn't had that. Also, this is one that is safe for kids and readable for beginners to the fantasy realm, much like Harry Potter was. Unlike Tolkien and Brooks, which assume a certain level of knowledge, Yelle brings a reader in and gives them enough to enjoy and understand without burdening veterans with too much info.
I would recommend this one for anyone over the age of 12. Book 2 is in my sights and I hope to get to it very soon.

Amazing , I would recommend this book to anyone , the way it's written is so vivid I can clearly picture each and every move they made . OMG the last sentence made me want to go running to my bookshelf and grab the second book and start it right this moment but I can't since I have priorities but I will try my best to get to it as soon as possible .I never read something of this genre but I tried reading a few books from the same genre and always hated them but this book is amazing , It has it's own magic. A big thank you to C.S Yelle the author for sending me a copy of both the first and second book ,this book absolutely deserves to be in any library or bookshop in the best sellers shelf , I wish it is more popular I am going to recommend it to my friends both online and offline so it can start getting the attention it deserves .It is action-packed from the first sentence up to the last sentence , very fast paced and doesn't make you feel bored in the middle there is always something new and interesting .

The next part contains spoilers :

The setting : 9/10 It was amazing and very vividly described and my favorite setting was the citadel where Teah was learning to control her magic .

The characters : 10/10 great enemies and great heroes , I loved Teah so much and I also loved Saliday , I like Logan and Sasha and Galena and Grinwald but my favorites were Saliday and Teah .

The Plot : 10/10 not a single chapter was boring , it was action packed all the way with a bit of romance , I hope that Logan marries Saliday.I also want Teah to marry Talesaur ( sorry for the spelling mistakes in the names ) .I am very happy that King Englewood is dead.

The writing : 10/10 Love the writing style and the way C.S Yelle describes everything and he has a great imagination and is a great author .

Caldora and King Englewood are such nasty people and they both deserve to die .
Teah is so kind and friendly she is amazing and I love her magic skills.

All in all I love the book and can't wait to get to the second book .

What an amazing read! I am absolutely, beyond a shadow of any doubt whatsoever, in love with this book.

Okay, soooo....
I NEED to KNOW what happens next!

Holy cow, I really, seriously do!

Logan and Teah are 16-year-old twins who suddenly discover their world isn’t quite what they thought and are thrust headfirst into a journey that any one of us would lay down and die at the mere thought of. It’s told from Logan’s pov which is a little unusual for me – it almost always from the female pov and I find that I really like the male perspective.

R.T.C starts in the first few pages and doesn't let up until the last page (I kept checking the blank page at the end in the event that more words would somehow magically appear, but....nothing) It's so well written that I could feel every step they made, I met everyone they met and I felt the emotions they felt - I also felt the irritation at the people in their lives who made a career out of keeping them in the dark. I want to meet and hang out with all of them (well..not allll of them) and have coffee, and go to the movies and stroll around downtown...

There was no feeling of ‘separateness’ for me, I wasn’t on the outside looking in, I was there with them and I LOVE that.

This book actually surprised me. When I first started reading it, I wasn’t sure how it would turn out – I was worried that it would just be a repeat of all the other young ‘journey to self discovery’ books that I’ve read over the years.

I am happy to announce that I was wrong. Completely and utterly wrong.

C S Yelle is a fabulous writer and I will follow him always – he is now on my ‘auto buy’ list.

I really think that people from all across the genre’ board will love this – it’s one of the best I’ve read!!

(So, about that next book…..)

Reclaiming Ter Chadain opens with a young man, Logan, who witnesses his father's seemingly random murder while they're in the woods. He returns to his home to find his mother and sister dead. His twin sister Teah though is alive, hiding in the barn. It turns out that these two are more than rural almost 16 year olds, they're the last surviving members of the royal family. Apparently they don't remember being secreted out of the castle at age 3 when the rest of the royals were assassinated by the current King, Englewood.

Their land is protected with powerful magic, if a true member of the royal family isn't on the throne, then a Protector will appear (at age 16 or above apparently) who will reclaim the throne for the rightful Queen. The true Queen is apparently Teah, but both her and Logan are transformed into Protectors. The story follows their journey - fleeing from the kings troops, meeting up with magical people and working to over throw the King. The book ends at a point where you'd think all is well, but yeah, it's a series, so things aren't as great as they should be.

This is an easy read, the story moves along pretty quickly, and I liked it overall. However, I may be the only one that felt this way, but there was a "Lannister-ish" (if you read A Song of Ice and Fire or watch Game of Thrones you'll get this) vibe between Logan and Teah. I don't have a twin brother, but I do have a brother, and I'd never think about him the way that Logan and Teah seem to think about one another! It was skeevy - "Gently, he stroked her cheek", or " Anguish spread across Teah's face. "I don't want to be away from you.' she said, looking at Logan. He took her in his arms." and "He fell asleep remembering his sister's face.". I guess I'm not close with my brother or something, but yeah.

King Englewood thought that he had killed all the members of the royal family, but three year old twins Logan and Teah were hidden away.

Since the murders King Englewood reads the prophecy every day.

“If the true bloodline does not rule Ter Chadain, the protector should appear and reclaim the throne to the rightful queen.”

When the twins reach sixteen they can activate the magic spell that would make his worse fears a reality.

Logan and Teah will become part of the revolution to reclaim Ter Chadain and have a big part to play in its reunification.

Logan must keep to the path of the greater good and get support from the dukes and duchesses of Ter Chadain. Teah is trained by the Magus an order of sorceresses to enable her to claim the throne.

Can Logan and Teah overcome King Englewood and reclaim Ter Chadain and accept their destiny?

If you are looking for a fantasy book that takes you on an adventure that is action packed and a great story then this is the book for you. The characters go through so much and grow in this story and this is only the first book in the series, so it will be interesting to see how the story and characters develop in the following books especially due to the fact that C S Yelle leaves the reader wondering what will happen next at the end of the book too.

This book is about an epic quest, a boy and a girl’s journey to not only battle for the throne but also their struggle to accept their new stations. Action-packed, I would really enjoy seeing this made into a movie just to see all of the sword fights, archery, and battle scenes. Yeah, I am a girl, but I love a good fight. There was plenty of that. This was not gory either, if you are worried about stomaching all of the blood and guts. In fact, it would be appropriate for all audiences. With a little romance and magic, too, there is a little something for everyone. I can safely recommend it to anyone young, old, male, female, lover of any genre. If you like to read and are breathing, you will like this book.

I have to admit that in the beginning I groaned with the fear of another fantasy story of characters on a cookie-cutter journey following a predictable roadmap to achieve some well-known goal in the end. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised to find along the way new discoveries, new magic, new characters and twists in events that kept me wondering. I found myself trying to figure out developments right alongside the main characters.

The ending was jaw-dropping brilliant. I am just so glad I am lucky

Reclaiming Ter Chadain is a wonderful addition to any fantasy-lover's bookshelf. The story follows teenage twins, Logan and Teah Lassain, as they come into their birthrights. Readers experience the twins assuming their powers and abilities as a revolution occurs around them. It's a fantastic journey, indeed!

This book was a true page-turner for me. I didn't want to stop reading to find out what would happen next. The plot itself was unpredictable, keeping me guessing and surprising me at several turns. The fact that the twins can kick some serious tail didn't hurt matters, either.

C.S. Yelle does a wonderful job of world-building and character development. I thought the characters were well-written and believable. In particular, I liked the spirits that resided in Logan's head. Their interactions with Logan were fresh, often humorous and quite engaging. I will definitely read the next book in the series, Black Stones of Ter Chadain.

In the first book of this series, Reclaiming Ter Chadain, we meet Logan and Teah, twin brother and sister. Life as they know it is quickly interrupted when they find out that they are actually very powerful members of the Lassain family, leaders of Ter Chadain. With Teah slated to become the next Queen of Ter Chadain, and both of them being Protectors, these teenagers are forced into positions of power that they never expected. They are being sought by the current King, Englewood, and his Magical Advisor, Caldora. There is so much build-up and excitement in this book with both Teah and Logan's new positions and all that it entails. There is such a vast group of characters, and we get to know them well. They are all so entertaining in their own way. I was absolutely sucked into this story and was shocked at how it ended. I was thankful that I had Book 2 at hand.

This was an amazing fantasy novel. Mr. Yelle has created a world that I suspect we can return to again and again for new adventures. His characters are young and have the whole world in front of them. While young, they are maturing rapidly and I find them compelling. I stayed up until 2AM to finish; I was unable to put it down. The reader is quickly and immediately plunged into the action. The story moves swiftly. I just can't say enough good things about it. I'll be first in line to buy the next book because Mr. Yelle left us with a cliffhanger!! I feel as giddy about this book as I did with the first Ranger Apprentice book I picked up.

Please support this incredible author and the wonderful world of Ter Chadain! Buy this book. You'll love it and be clamoring for more.

I enjoyed this book very much. It was something different, magical and in a world that was fun to escape to every time I picked the book up. I enjoyed the relationship of brother and sister and their relationships with all the new characters they meet. I enjoyed the fact that in a way it was a coming of age story for Teah and Logan. At the very beginning they are kids, but they are thrust into a world where they have no choice but to grow up. They have to accept the responsibilities of being the royal and guards of the kingdom.

I enjoyed reading this book. Twins, a boy and a girl, learn that their lineage is not what they thought. They are two of the most powerful people in their land, and that scares others who are eager to keep power that is not rightfully theirs. The twins work to become the people they were meant to be in this story, taking the lessons learned from their adoptive family and combining them with the duties of their birth family. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 once I finish another book :)

This book had me reading with adrenaline from beginning to end. It is an awesome fantasy story with the perfect amount of action and magic. I always like when a series leaves me with the right amount of closure from one book to the next but yet leaving me with anticipation and this book fits that.

I'm still interested enough to find the second book and find out if it's any better, but...

There's a good plot line here, yet it seems lacking in detail, too much jumping from one thing to another with little explanation between.

Upon meeting some characters, the trust seems to come about too swiftly with no explanation as to if it's guttural or just a careless whim. Relationships strengthen with little interaction between characters being known to the reader.

The age differences are not a maturity guide, most of the adults are just as immature as the children, and in just as much need of disciplining. They jump to their own assumptions without questioning the punished actions, making the young adults more mature in the moment.

It was worth reading, I'm still curious enough to read the next book and learn what happens.

Exceptional fantasy book that reminded me of The Chronicles of Narnia. C.S. Yelle does an excellent job using realistic dialogue to propel the story forward. I was hooked right away and it quickly turned into one of those books that I couldn't put down. Well done, C.S. Yelle. I will be buying the second book in the series shortly.

I picked up Reclaiming Ter Chadain for free. That day it was the number 1 ranked free epic fantasy on the Kindle.

I got my money's worth. It's a lengthy novel with a straight forward plot. It is written in a pleasant, easy, style, though it could use another editing pass to clean up some typos (extra words, missing words, 'sole' when it should read 'soul', 'road' when it should read 'rode', etc.)

I had a few issues with charactization. The magus' in particular, both male and female versions, were all liars and paranoids. I saw very little rationale on the part of the main characters to have anything to do with them, other than gleaning a bit of education. In a life or death situation, you can't have someone you can't trust at your back. Worse still the main enemy is a female magus that is allowed to walk unhindered through the ranks of the female magus college without any of the powerful magus' that have sided with the protagonist raising a finger to stop her.

That made me scratch my head, but a lot of other scenes did as well. Motivations, reactions, and choices made by all the characters was questionable and unrealistic. Yeah it's fantasy and yeah there is magic and big mojo happening, but they were all still supposed to be human. At times everyone is just worried about their slice of the pie and at others they are looking at the big picture, this was jarring to me and made me feel the author's heavy handedness.

I liked the magic system, although it seems strange to me that they would have spells for pulling hair and spanking someone's behind, but nothing to clear ice and snow out of their path--nothing to keep them warm and comfortable when it got cold. Just some basic utilitarian stuff?

I did not like the combat. Every scene with action was very short, no hanging on a dramatic moment. Actions were often illogical (a master swordsman should not go down on their knees if there are more opponents around, immobility is death--if the enemey hellbent on killing you falls back into the bushes do not just leave it at that and turn away). Things were written for a more cinematic look, which is fine, but I could not visualize the scenes well enough from the hasty descriptions to put myself in the thick of things with the characters. There were lots of flourishes and whirling steel, but for me it fell flat and each fight ended anticlimactically.

One more that nagged at me was the author's tendancy to describe things as 'colorful', and in one case 'colors he had never seen before'. This rolls off the tongue well, but it does nothing to help me form an image in my mind of what I am seeing. On the other hand, the colors used in the magic were very well done and made instant sense... I could 'see' the magic being cast, but there were just too many other places where I could 'see' nothing at all.

2 stars means it was ok... and it was, just ok. Not quite enough to make me go forward with the next book.

Although there are things about the story that make me wish I could give more, this book earns only a weak 2.5 star rating from me. There are some nice unexpected twists in the story that I like, but it ends on a cliffhanger, which is a major minus in my book. It was doing a great job of making a satisfying ending then insists on sticking in a cliffhanger to try to make people buy the sequel. I don't go for that. If your book is good enough on its own, people will buy the sequel because they care about the characters and want to see what happens to them.

The other major minus is a serious need of proper editing. The author apparently didn't bother with getting a decent editor (or else ignored the editor), because the book is filled with wrong word errors. It seems totally random whether "you're" or "your" is used, as both show up both right and wrong and usually the same spelling is used several times in a row when the meaning is obviously different in these usages. To that I can easily add "insure" instead of "ensure," "precede" instead of "proceed," and "soars" instead of "sores." There are also serious tense issues. I almost put the book down several times because I was so fed up with all the errors. And the POV isn't completely satisfying for me either... it felt more unstable than omniscient.
