She inherited a magical destiny—and a mission to stop a powerful family of dark sorcerers. She never expected to fall in love with one of them.
There's still so much Daire Santos has to learn about being the last Soul Seeker….and about herself. As her magical training becomes more intense, so does her relationship with Dace. But when she learns that his connection to the evil Richter family goes far deeper than she ever imagined, she begins to question if love really can conquer all.
Dace is painfully aware that he wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the Richters' dark magic—and now his brother Cade is determined to use his love for Daire against him. Dace is willing to sacrifice anything to protect the girl he loves —including his own life. But will Daire allow it? And what if defeating Cade costs not only his life, but his soul too?

🤔🧐🤯MY THOUGHTS:🤯🧐🤔
Daire is able to complete her prophecy but not with suffering and losing Dace in the process.
So much happened in this book of the series. What we don’t know is will Daire and Dace survive after fighting Cade in the lower world?
I really hope these to make it and Axel is able to save Daire. I want her and Dace to be together but there’s a chance that Daire will fall for the golden haired Axel.
This book is also a reread. Since I needed to find out who Axel was and Daire was with him upon starting book 3. I know now I can finish the other 2 books in the series.

I have removed this rating because I literally don't remember anything about this book. So it def wasn't my favourite. --- I was a little worried because the second one is the immortals series was the one that ruined it for me.
This is by far the best out of the two I read.
And, I have to say that ending was INTENSE!!!!
So we begin the story all happy, Daire and Dace are together and lad di da. But then, Cade has to ruin it. Like he ruins everything.
Every time that Daire and Dace are together, Cade gets stronger. Which means that they have to spend time apart.
That is so sad. They are two halves of a whole and yet, they do it, knowing that finishing Cade leads to their happily ever after. Easy, right? WRONG!
This book was eventful and never got laggy. The pace was very fast because we were switching perspective. That meant that we got to step into both the worlds of Daire and Dace (and some other ones at the end).
Although the ending was a cliffhanger, it felt right for this novel. The ending was perfect.
This is the second book in The Soul Seekers series. In this book I think we delve more into the characters themselves, into their growth and the personal obstacles they are trying to overcome. Also, into the relationship between Daire and Dace. The book is told in dual POV's which I really enjoyed. We switch back and forth between Daire and Dace which I think adds so much to how well we are able to connect with them.
Daire has grown so much towards the soul seeker she is prophesied to become. I sometimes ache for her because even though this is her main purpose, I still see her as a 16 year old teenage girl, struggling with love, the relationship between her and her mom, and her relationships with her girl friends, just like any other teenage girl. Before Daire moved to Enchantment, New Mexico, she had never attended public school. So having girl friends is an entirely new experience. I especially am liking her friend Lita. When Daire first started school, Lita was the ultimate mean girl. But she has really turned around. In her own way, she has become Daire's fiercest protector. I hope we get to see even more of her in the third book.
Dace sees nothing but his love for Daire. Dace and Daire have professed their love for one another. But, Dace has a twin bother, Cade. For everything good that Dace is, his brother equals with evil. When they were conceived, their souls were split, with Dace being everything light and Cade being everything Dark. Dace is referred to as Cade's echo. If I understand it correctly, it takes their connection to the utmost level in that whatever Dace feels can echo back to Cade. So, Cade is able to use the love Dace feels for Daire and turn it around to fuel his evil.
Cade has breached the underworld and is wreaking havoc on the natural balance of everything. Both Dace and Daire feel that in order to protect the other, they must be the one to kill Cade and this causes them both to put themselves in danger time and time again. When, in fact, if they had worked together they might have a better chance.
I am so proud of them both, though, at the levels they are willing to go to try to save one another and also their friends and loved ones. Alyson Noel does such a great job of painting such vivid pictures with her words and keeping us on the edge of our seats. The book has a huge heart attack worthy cliff hanger so I have no other choice then to go straight on into the third book.
I can't tell you why but I hated this book. I don't think I read even half of it. I tried. I tried so very hard. I think I read every word of the first two or so chapters before I started only reading dialogue till around page 140. After that I gave up and started skipping whole pages then whole chapters. I've never done this before. I've never disrespected a book or author like that before and I'm ashamed that I couldn't give this book the respect it deserves. I know how hard it is to write a book, that would be why I only write short stories. I can't imagine writing something this long only to get a horrible review but... Both Fated and Echo were very well written. I like the character (I absolutely loved the romance parts) but I didn't like the plot. I will not be reading the third installment.
Part of me really enjoys this series, loves reading it and learning tidbits of information.
But the other part of me just can't be bothered.
A lot of this book felt rushed. It was like "OK, Daire needs training, but that's boring to read, let's hit fast-forward" and all of a sudden Daire knows EVERYTHING. Almost. Ish.

Short Review: Ugh. Where to begin. First, listen up authors, DO NO NAME CHARACTERS ROUGHLY THE SAME NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, do not do that. Those of us who listen to the audio do not get to see the different spellings so i was so lost most of the time because one is Dace and the other is Daire, which sound kinda the same when you have a fast reading narrator. Secondly, the first 75% of this book is just nothing. Nothing major happens, it's just talking and do little things that aren't even related to the main "plot" (a term i use very lightly here.)
I really loved the first book in this series, Fated, because it was something so different to Alyson Noel’s other books. I really enjoyed the plot and setting and couldn’t wait to get on to book two.
In Echo, Daire is learning how to become a Soul Seeker. Although she has already had some training, she doesn’t know everything… not by a long shot. Unlike in Fated, Echo doesn’t have to spend numerous chapters letting the reader know backgrounds and information about what is going on. I felt like Fated was very much a ‘set up the story’ kind of book whereas Echo was able to just jump right in to the plot. It takes no time at all for us to be reunited with Daire and Dace, a couple in a very new relationship having to figure out what is going on in the world.
In Echo, Daire and Dace are faced with the massive problem of ridding the Lowerworld of the Richters. However, Dace’s twin brother Cade is determined to stop this from happening and he reveals some shocking truths which change everything. I really liked how Noel really dove right into the life of a Soul Seeker in this book, which made it extremely exciting. Not only do we get to learn more about what Daire can actually do but it is also put to use more this time around. Something which I loved in Fated, and also again here, was the use of Spirit Animals which again, is explored in more depth this time around.
As good as the plot was, it was Daire and Dace’s relationship that really made this book for me. As two people apparently destined to be together, their relationship was beautiful to read about. Not only were they wonderful together, their passion for each other shining through, but they were also great on their own. Each character was so strong in their feelings about each other that they didn’t care about voicing it to other people, which really made me like the both more. The strength of their feelings for each other, mixed in with some absolutely stunning scenes, makes for a super romantic relationship.
Although we get to know a hell of a lot more about Daire and Dace, other characters are around much more as well. Daire’s mother pays a visit which opens up a lot about the past and about what can happen from this point. Also, due to events from Fated, other minor characters are focused on more which was a good thing for me. Xotichl, Auden and now also Lita are in Daire and Dace’s close group of friends. While Lita was a bit of a bitch before, she has become much nicer and I think she added a lot of humour to this book, which was needed considering the seriousness of the plot.
As this is only the second book in the series, there is a lot left unanswered and also a huge cliff-hanger. The third book, Mystic is out in July and I’m pretty desperate to get my hands on it. Alyson Noel has created such likeable characters in an utterly magical setting that I cannot get enough of.
OMG, omg, omg!! This book sooo many turns that I was not prepared for. Book three I need you now.
This book was sooo much better than book one. In Echo (since we have the back story from fated), I feel like we were really able to get a start on the Soul Seeker story in here. We get to see our two main characters Dace and Daire, and I do like how we switch back and forth between POV in this book. I think it helped the story too, giving it a little something more to go on! I have to also say this book made so many better transitions in between moments and I also like how the entire story was building up certain moments. I also like how we get a look more at the friendships that are forming.
There were so many decisions that also had to be made, along with a lot of learning not just skills about about the characters true self and those moments were always intense, but I enjoy how much they mean to the overall story line. Especially with Daire, we get to see this side that I loved following. So Daire....
Daire is one heck of a strong character, there is no way to get mad or hate her because all she is trying to do is right everything. Make it better, and fix all the problems one can imagine that are too horrible for words. You definitely get a lot more character development with Daire a long with the others. But the difference with Daire is we see her grow up even more, become even stronger and of course watch as she becomes more attuned to herself, which bus so important.
Just saying the way this book went I did not expect and I'm so happy about that because now I have to pick up book 3 immediately or I might cry or scream, I need to know! It will be so interesting and exciting to see what becomes of everything and everyone in Mystic.
Now, diving deeper into her destiny, I found this book quite intriguing. While the first book is filled with lots of information, in this story, we get more answers.
What I loved most about this story is the great back round history. The reader is informed more of Daire and what she is meant to do. Each chapter reveals more of what she is too become as well as the twins, Dace and Cade. The battle between them is raging and I KNOW it's only a matter of time. The author did a great job in giving the reader a dive into deep emotions. I love a good story that brings my heart soaring, then gasping, then hurting. Call me crazy, but a book with overflowing feelings makes me connect to the characters on a whole new level.
The love interest didn't quite go as I wanted it to. Is it still strained? YES! I want them to have peace, but I also understand that both of them have important parts to play before they can have they peace. Of course, everything is falling in their way as well. One minute their fighting together and the next, their falling apart. Though it did annoy me a bit, I'm hoping the next book will be lighter on my heart.
Echo is a seemingly fantastic story! Engrossing in drama, the story is written well and never lacking. If you love a good story that has great world building, Echo is for you!
I enjoyed Echo a bit more than I did Fated. I thought this story had better character developement and the story was more interesting. The only real complaints I have is the romance. I couldn't help finding myself role my eyes on numerous occasions. It's just, personally, not for me. I think that is what bugs me in most YA books. The cheesy, mushy, unrealistic boyfriends. I know they are written like this for a reason, but it would still be nice, to try at least, to make them human in a sense.
The story begins where it left off in Fated, with Daire being completely in love with Dace, trying to end his twin Cade, and with Daire's grandmother teaching her how to be a Seeker and the powers that come with it.
I enjoy some of the side characters and liked that they played a bigger role this time around.
I am still not loving the series, but I do like it. I could use more paranormal and less romance. But for the romance lovers, you will probably enjoy this more than I did.
I await the next book. From the ending, it looks like things are going to get more interesting.
I'M FREAKING THE FREAK OUT YOU GUYS. BECAUSE THIS BOOK, THIS FREAKIN' BOOK RIGHT HERE? WAIT DEEP BREATH, NO NEED FOR CAPS LOCK. ... Okay. Phoo. Let's talk about Echo. More like let's talk about what was the most awesome YA PNR I've read in quite some time. Especially coming from Alyson Noel. There was so much going on in this book and it all cumulated into something fantastic. Noel laid the law down with Daire and Dace coming into their respective power, with side characters adding to the forward movement of the plot (and giving us a breath of fresh air with comic relief at times), and while I was so pissed off that Daire and Dace never once we're like "LET'S DO THIS TOGETHER" how they were always there for each other totally won me over. I did see the one plot twist, which should have been obvious to everyone since Dace is Cade's echo. But that ending? THOSE EPILOGUE CHAPTERS? I'M SO PUMPED FOR THE REST OF THIS SERIES. I REALLY HOPE NOEL DOESN'T LET ME DOWN.
I really enjoyed reading it. Before reading it, I was questioning the choice of Alyson in picking such a title, but I figured it out around halfway through it. I will share some of the inspiring quotations that I loved:
"We’re destined. Fated. But now, after weeks of being his girlfriend, this is the very first time the L word was mentioned. Dace cocks his head, shooting me a look so dreamy, I’m sure he’s going to say it—those three not-so little words—and I ready myself to utter them too." (This is just so sweet!!)
"Five minutes without her is unbearable. A lifetime is completely unthinkable." (Can't we have more guys like Dace :( He is adorable)
The following quotation is my favorite. I can't believe I never heard of this fence in Paris. Now I desperately wanna go there. "There’s a place in Paris with an old chain-link fence, much like this one.” She hooks her finger around one of the links and rattles it for emphasis—the move, along with her words, leaving me even more perplexed than before. “Only that fence, the one in Paris, is completely covered with locks. The entire thing is crammed chock full of locks of all kinds. And, well, it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Or at least it is once you realize what it is the locks symbolize.” I look at her, clueless as to where this is going. “It’s a fence for lovers.” Her voice softens. “It’s a place where couples go to declare their love for each other. As a show of devotion, they attach the lock to the fence, and then each person gets a key. If at any point one of them decides their feelings have changed, they’re free to use their key to remove the lock. But from the looks of that fence, it rarely happens."
I won't lie but I kinda don't want Cade to die. I know he is the bad guy and everything but that's because everyone deems him pure evil and never offer him second chances. Throughout the novel, I didn't develop hatred towards the antagonist and I don't know if it is my fault or Alyson's.
But really I wanna know what happened to Cade, Daire and Dace. What a cliffhanger!!
There's nothing better than seeing all three main characters die and your favorite side character deeply traumatized at the end of a book. The end was nothing but a flurry(haha) of raw emotion and gore and really, what's better than having every character you felt an ounce of joy toward die a terrible death in a place some poor unfortunate soul is going to stumble upon later?
I haven't read the first book, so I had no idea what was going on the entire time. This book was pure vibes for me despite the author's attempts to make me understand things that were probably mentioned in the first book. Did I have any idea what was going on or why the characters did what they did? Absolutely not. Did it pass the vibe check? 100%. Anytime the characters did anything I was like "Ohhh you're so cute okay go say some cute things and have your whole character arc while I eat my popcorn okay *hugs them* you're going to do great good luck sweetie"
8/10, points off for my pure confusion and for having the sweet moment between Auden and his girl ruined because she was ✨traumatized✨.

I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only few, but Echo definitely seemed to suffer Second Book Syndrome. Not in action or world-building, but in the characters and romance. And while everything besides those were wonderful, characters and the romance are big things for me, so it affected my opinion greatly.
The characters...they were so much more self-centered than in Fated. Dace was more egoistical, Daire decided she was Miss-Know-it-All (at least in the beginning) and we got introduced to new characters. At least two more! And while I love meeting new characters...one (Axel) was mainly introduced near the end so I was confused, one (Phyre) was apparently very important, but we literally find out near the end of the book how important. Or, rather, the book tells us. We already know how important when she was first introduced. And then some minor characters who you'll have to read to find out about!
Dace...wasn't as...sweet, per say. Sure he was adorable in some moments, but it's like he didn't really care as much about defeating the antagonist as he was about their romance and how he looked in Daire's eyes. When he (slight spoiler) failed to kill Cade, he was so ashamed because Daire was there so he went back AGAIN after being almost killed. Ugh. And Daire just annoyed me in this book, but it was how she acted overall, so I can't quite put my finger on what annoyed me.
The romance was so completely, utterly sappy. And I'm not a fan of those at all. I like my romance dark, forbidden, etc. But definitely not sappy. And while the romance had forbidden down, it was just so...like I said in my review of Fated, it was a bit too innocent for my tastes. And Dace and Daire... Ex: "Content to just stand there and fill my eyes with the glorious sight of her." Not my type of romance, I'm sad to say.
Now, the plot was just stunning! There were definitely twists I didn't expect, some completely out of the blue, but others just purely shocked me. Seriously. Alyson Noel may not have the best characters, but she knows how to spin a story! The pacing wasn't slow and I found myself flipping through it, despite character and romance issues! It continues Daire's story beautifully, alternating between Daire's and Dace's POV.
Short paragraph part: Love the world-building and descriptions! Seriously I wish I could live in the Enchanted Spring...when it's actually Enchanted and not tainted by the Richters.
Overall, I'd recommend reading a few chapters of Fated before you buy and if you liked that, buy Fated! and if you like Fated, buy Echo (obviously). It was a fun read that, while I didn't absolutely love, I did enjoy while reading. It's one of those in-the-moment books where it's good when you read it, but not as good when you analyze it or overthink it!
A prophecy must be fulfilled, and although open to interpretation, someone must die. Daire is convinced that her generation of Seekers is about to face things far worse than any Seeker before her as the strength and cunning of the Richters and their demon minions grows and evolves. Cade’s evil grows, his madness is dark and menacing as he uses the love Daire and Dace share as a weapon against them. Alternating chapter POVs between Daire and Dace, the story becomes more intense, the full horror deepened and gives insight into the plans they each secretly harbor to save the other from the destruction. Will Cade finally win? What lengths will Daire and Dace go to to save the world? Are they strong enough to see the prophecy through to the end? Are their versions the same?
Echo by Alyson Noel starts off quickly, but slows down to build more on the story, introducing new characters, new twists and deepening the romance between the two main characters as they learn the potential joys and pains of love. Daire’s growth makes her more likable; while Dace continues to be a source of goodness until he decides the only way to beat his evil twin is to become more like him.
Will Alyson Noel let her characters meet their demise or will they put their own spin on the prophecy? With her signature style, the twists become too many to unravel until that final moment, that final battle and then…the snow that rarely falls in new Mexico begins, is it a sign? Echo is a welcome addition to the Soul Seeker Series. I received this review copy as part of the Horizon/Soul Seeker Review Tour and Giveaway stopping at Tome Tender November 8, 2013 in exchange for my honest review.

Oh my God. Oh my God. That was literally the only thing running through my head when I finished the book. If you thought that this book was going to answer all of the questions Fated left, you were wrong. It answers a lot of those questions, but leaves countless others in its wake. Daire is still stubborn and thick-headed, but everything she does is with good intentions. Dace does everything with good intentions too, but most of the times I wanted to beat his head and tell him that he was wrong! In Fated, most of the time it was Daire's head I wanted to beat for all of the choices she made, but in Echo it was obvious she grew and matured. Her choices were better and she had a better grasp on her powers and purpose. On the other hand, Dace seemed to make more mistakes and choose the worst option, and one of his choices specifically left me screaming at him NOT TO DO IT. Did he listen? Of course not, he's a character in a book. But still, I wanted him to see the mistake he was making and not make it. Cade is still a complete and total jerk, but we see more of him here and more of his motives, etc. He's the antagonist and I hate him, especially for what Dace decided to do because of him. There's a lot in this book, just like with Fated, that confuses you until the last second. That's great, because it left me turning the page to figure out what the heck it meant, but it was also frustrating because it kept me turning the page to figure out what the heck it meant. And the ending. OH MY GOD, the ending. What? What?!?! I am impatiently waiting for the third and final book in the series, Mystic, to see what's going to happen. Because, seriously. The ending is going to shock the pants off of you. I recommend this for people who enjoyed Fated (duh) and who love strong-willed heroines and love that you just can't help put your faith in. Oh, and evil and action and magic and a bunch of other stuff that leaves you with your mouth hanging open and shut like a fish.
This was the book that took most of my time to get my hands on, so in some ways this will hold a special place in my mind. That said, the whole of this series has already found a new home since I'm never going to read these books again (:D).
In the first book it was found that Daire Santos is a soul seeker and she and her crush Dace are meant for each other, in other words "Fated" (as the title says). In Echo the reader will find out that Dace is basically nothing more than an echo of his evil twin Cade, hence the title. What ever the other has the other will as well, and the love between Daire and Dace makes Cade also stronger. And neither cannot be killed without the other one dying as well.
Can we first take a pause to appreciate the names of our main characters? Seriously, a love story between Daire and Dace. I just can't. Moreover, the naming of the twins - even the author got them mixed up at least once. It was a bit confusing to have Cade popping out of nowhere when Daire and Dace were making out or something like that.
I truly like the concept of spirit animals and spirit world, as well as the magic of this series. The characters are also pretty neat - I do love myself some Lita, the mean girl turns sassy new best friend is one of my favorite tropes.
The end of the world - theme is already pretty close on this book even if this is only the second one in the four book series. Underworld or lower world is already pretty much ruined and corrupted thanks to Cades machinations, and the spirit guides are no use. That is a pity, because I would have loved to see more of raven.
Maybe the funniest thing of all is the secret spring part, where somehow the only place not ruined is the secret base of Daire and Dace, it's so not ruined it's practically shimmering! But no alarms are ringing in neither of the two lovers ears as they get to lovemaking business and Cade oversees the whole business. Seriously :D But the ending has a nice twist to it and if I really cared for any of these characters I might have felt a bit bad because of such a cliffhanger.
Echo is the sequel to Fated in the Soul Seekers series and reintroduces readers to Daire, Dace, Xotichl, Cade, Lita, and Paloma to name the main cast. I'm not really sure what I think about this particular ending other than I was ready to scream my bloody head off. I mean, if you weren't awake while reading the first and middle parts of this book, you were by the time the ending came around. I'm sure I am not the only one who thought WTH, is this the end? How can Noel end a series like this?
It was interesting to me when Noel decided to dual POV her story between Daire, and Dace. Daire has slowly come into her powers as a Soul Seeker: one who can navigate the worlds between the living and dead while Dace firmly believes that he has to do everything in his power to save Daire from the "prophecy." Each character has found a way to read the prophecy in their own ways which causes nothing but strife and headaches. Noel also decides that it is time to allow Daire and Dace to explore each other sexually.
Cade, the villain of this series, has a few surprises up his sleeve as well and doesn't feel as though he has to worry about Daire's challenge to stopping his world domination or his ability to tear down the walls to Lowerworld, Middleworld, and Upperworld.
Several new characters were added as well. They are Phyre and Axel. Can't really tell you who these characters are since Noel doesn't really explain them in much detail. I do know that Phyre once was smitten with Dace, while Axel does something interesting to help Dace in the end. NO spoilers!
I have Mystic on hold at my library. That way, if the story doesn't impress me, I can always return it without losing any money!

"Fated" by Alyson Noel began the series with the story of Daire Santos, thought to be psychotic because she sees things. Finding someone understanding in her grandmother, she learns that she is a Seeker, someone with special powers to see different worlds.
In "Echo," the second novel in the series, Daire and Dace, her boyfriend, must fight an evil family that is determined to destroy the world. Specifically, they must fight Dace's evil twin, Cade, whose powers get stronger and stronger.
There is magic galore in these pages: prophecies, demons, undead, and shape-shifters. Daire and Dace's love for each other turns into a kind of magic that serves to strengthen their enemy, Cade (notice the clever anagrams of each other's names).
As Daire's powers also get stronger, she becomes a more likable person. In the first book, she was barely able to tolerate her mother -- a woman with many issues of her own. In this book, because of her ability to sense what others are feeling, she senses her mother's insecurity and her sadness and is able to treat her with much more kindness than before.
Daire's friends also come through for her by helping her and protecting her. A word of advice for those who read "Fated" a long time ago. Reread it. There are many names in these books, and it's good to review them before reading "Echo."
The revelations in this book are many, and they will not be spoiled here. But suffice to say that Daire shows how unselfish she is at the end of this book. Her love for others and her desire to do the right thing are virtually absolute.
ECHO picked up where Fated ends. But unlike Fated, the second book doesn't dwell more on backstories and information, Echo jumps right into the plot.
But I really believe what makes ECHO so gripping is the main characters' relationship; their love has become stronger as well as the complications and danger that comes with Daire as a Soul Seeker and Dace as the Echo. It's so heartbreaking to see them perfect for each other but they cannot be together for the greater good.
Daire does a lot of growing in ECHO, in the earlier part, she is naïve and afraid but eventually she becomes confident, braver and the warrior her Abuela believes she should be. Dace opens himself through his own POV. We get to learn his thoughts, his fears, and his love for Daire. The descriptions of the elemental song and the majestic scenes make this book entertaining. However, I must admit that there are boring parts but it won't deter a fan from continuing.
This book had lots, and I mean lots of turns and twists. Decisions made, choices undertaken and the consequences that result are all surprising. The book ends with a beautiful and frustrating cliffhanger that reveals nothing but more questions. ECHO will surely make you wish Mystic is out already.
ECHO is an epic, fast-paced, magical page-turner that leaves the reader captivated and enthralled. It ends with chills, shivers, goosebumps and an insatiable want to read what's next!
