And what if you were one of them…? Brooke Keller's a high school junior who never spent much time living in one place. She's finally in a town long enough to almost snag the boy of her dreams, until her life is threatened by a fanged man in his attempt to kidnap her. Brooke begins a dangerous journey to find out who is after her and how to stop them. Thrown into a world with powerful and prejudiced vampires, Brooke must tap into the side of herself that she never knew existed, at the risk of losing her life in order to save it. Excerpt A twig snapped, and I jerked my head to the right. I caught the glint from the eyes of a mountain lion creeping toward us, his ears pulled back, teeth bared.I froze, hoping we weren’t the prey he stalked.Kaitlynn shrieked. She grabbed my arm and tried pulling me with her as she ran back to the cars. The lion rose from his crouch and started charging down the mountain straight for us.We didn’t have enough time for both of us to make it out of there alive, and the lion sped up at the site of Kaitlynn running away.I planted my feet. Something clicked inside of me; heat coursed through my veins. My vision intensified, and I could distinguish the areas of down between the lion’s coarse fur as his muscles flexed and stretched. I’d heard before that you shouldn’t look a wild animal directly in its eyes, but my instinct screamed for me to not turn my back on my attacker. I listened to my gut and looked the mountain lion square into his charging eyes. The lion and I connected on an intellectual predator versus predator. Only I knew, and I deemed the lion knew, as well, that I outranked him as the more fearsome predator. How I recognized this, or how I knew the lion realized this, I couldn’t fathom. I had never been hunting before, so this instinct didn’t come from a belief that man ruled supreme on the food chain. And this moment felt different somehow. It wasn’t man versus beast; it was beast versus beast.

Descended By Blood is ACTION packed- awesome from the very first pages!!! *Gasp* I'm not even sure where to start! The beginning?

Brooke is wicked freaked out and more than a little confused, after a mountain lion in the woods nearly attacked her and her best friend Kaitlynn. What's even more upsetting is she's also sure she saw a MAN beckon this lion back to him after their near attack. (I know right?)

Just her luck that some creepy guy with a weird pet would start following her around when Jaren FINALLY decides to ask her out! Jaren and Brooke are so super cute together!!!

"Jaren tasted sweet like faded strawberry red vines and bliss."
~ Aww, their first kiss! Red vines?? EPIC Win.

While settling in at Jaren's apartment, the man from the woods comes to the door and DEMANDS Brooke go with him- to his 'Lady'. Jaren tries to protect her, but the man throws him off like a rag doll! Brooke goes all Matrix on him and KILLS the guy.

Brooke calls her mother, tells her what happened and her mom is surprisingly calm when she tells her to go immediately to her Uncle's house and they'll take care of everything. *gasp* Come to find out, Brooke's mother has been keeping a very BIG secret from her...

Brooke is HALF VAMPIRE, born from her father's lineage. Jaren freaks out when he hears the news, and tells her that he needs some time to 'think'... but whether he likes it or not, he's in it for the long haul because the vampires that are after Brooke will be after him too.

Her mother and uncle decide the best course of action is to put her in the capable hands of Mirko. Sexy, dark, hot, sexy, yummy, delicious, dangerous Mirko...

Kaitlynn, Jaren, Mirko and Brooke all get to the compound and Jaren suddenly gets all goobery over some other vamp chick and Brooke is not happy,

"If Ms. Georgia [referring to said vamps southern accent]wanted to play games with me, I would knock her tiara off her head so fast , she'd get whiplash."
~Brooke... yeah, she's fiesty and I LOVE it!

Mirko is to train Brooke and help her learn to protect herself in case of an emergency situation. Then after an 'incident' forces Brooke to take drastic measures in self-defense against another person inside the compound- they leave to seek training from a very old and respected vampire...

They find out Brooke's secret is much bigger than they originally thought it to be... Greed, hate, love, envy, romance... and death. You will not believe the ending of this book, Descended by Blood will leave you BEGGING for more!

My Favorite Mirko Moments:

"I'm the man of your dreams. You just don't know it yet."
~Mirko...

"Will you mess up my bed with me?"
~Mirko...

He pulled away from me and cupped my head, stroking my outer ear lobe with his thumb.
"Please choose me." he pleaded. ~Mirko...

One of the best things about Descended By Blood was how REAL the characters felt to me. Kaitlynn and Brooke could have easily been my best friend and I in high school. They were so much fun and totally the perfect pair...

This book is a whirlwind of non-stop awesome! Seriously. The action is furious, the romance is HOT and the friendships are fabulous. Descended By Blood is absolute vamp perfection from Angeline Kace! I cannot WAIT for the second book!!

He pulled away from me and cupped my head, stroking my outer ear lobe with his thumb. “Please choose me” he pleaded.

When I first heard about Descended by Blood, I wanted to read it so bad, so I’d been eagerly awaiting its release. Imagine my excitement when the opportunity to get an advanced readers copy came up but also be involved with the blog tour too…..*Squeeeee* Yep, I was that excited.
So, want to know my thoughts after I read the book? Well, let me tell you this! Angeline DOES NOT disappoint….it was bloody FANTASTIC!

Brooke Keller is a high school student who moves from town to town because her mother doesn’t let them stay in one place for too long. With Brooke happily settled in Virginia, she is trying to bag the guy of her dreams; the handsome and popular Jaren, but when her life is turned upside down by a mysterious man with fangs, Brooke is thrown into a world she never knew existed and is suddenly faced with deadly situations and two boys battling for her heart.

This novel was just what I needed to get me back into the Vampire scene. I hadn’t read much Vampire books lately but from the first page of this book, I was hooked. Angeline knows how to draw you into a story that keeps you captivated from start to end. Not only does she manage to deliver a new and exciting take on Vampires but she also delivers with her unique and action packed story line. When reading the book, you can tell how much hard work has gone into the book and I for one think Angeline deserves a round of applause for her awesome work.

Our heroine ‘Brooke’ is one kick ass girl! She is strong, determined and confident. From the opening chapter, you see the kind of character she is and although she has a hard time standing up for herself to start with, that soon quickly changes once she becomes familiar with what is she. Jaren, I really enjoyed him as a character. He appealed to me to start with but that quickly changed when he dumps Brooke with the snap of his fingers, only soon to change his mind again. I hate men like that and I’m so glad we have Mirko, to drool over. Yes, I said drool! Mirko is one HOT guy! There’s not even any competition to who Brooke should be with. Mirko is tall, dark and gorgeous, who knows what he wants and he is determined to have Brooke and my god, she is a silly girl if she doesn’t pick him. ;)

The story line itself is fast paced, intense and exciting. Its action packed and with the new take on Vampire’s and with two very hot guys to obsess about there is not a dull moment. My only real complaint about the book was I sometimes felt the relationship between Brooke and Jaren was a little forced and happened far too quickly for my liking and for that, I didn’t really connect with their relationship. But now, Brooke and Mirko’s relationship was another story. Their relationship was at a good steady pace, one I felt connected with and enjoyed more. That’s probably because I’m team Mirko and I definitely think is Ms Kace is a Team Mirko fan deep down too ;)

Overall, Angeline has started off with a bang for her new series and I for one, will look forward to her future works. Her next book ‘Enemy Within’ cannot come soon enough!

A HUGE thank you to the author for providing me an ARC copy of this book!

Perhaps I've read too many vampire novels or perhaps I haven't read enough. Either way, I've realized that I'm not too picky when it comes to my beloved bloodsuckers. In fact, just mention the word 'vampire' and an electric thrill shoots through me. But when I read a vampire novel, I do expect certain things to happen...like maybe the actual drinking of blood?

As soon as Brooke Keller's life starts to seem perfect—with her devoted best friend, Kaitlynn, and adoring boyfriend, Jaren, in tow—an unexpected secret about her past turns her world upside down. Once the truth about her heritage is revealed, Brooke must learn to face the evil forces that are after her before they harm those she cares for most.

Brooke was a challenging character to support. Since the story is told by and revolves around her, I'd half-hoped, half-expected her to mature significantly as she embraced her vampire side, or at the very least, get to a place where I could understand her logic, but she remained largely naive and selfish throughout the course of the novel. Yes, I get that she's a teen who's suddenly thrust into a hidden world filled with creatures she never imagined existed, but any sympathy I felt for her plight was continuously batted away by her rash decisions and careless thoughts. And the deeply embedded love triangle she allowed to developed between herself, Jaren, and Mirko didn't help her case, either.

Aside from the lack of character development, the dialogue between characters and the narrative style wasn't always cohesive but rather awkward and strained. Sure, I'm willing to suspend belief so I can follow three teenagers as they take off on a private jet and miss weeks of school to train at a secret military base funded by the government, but at least give me some witty snark and palpable banter to be charmed by. As for the narrative style, the story is mainly told as First Person, Past Tense, but more than a few times it veered off into present tense territory.

When I initially picked up this novel, I think I was expecting something a bit different. And while I liked the new terms used for vampirism in Descended by Blood, I wished the mythology would have been better explained. Example, At first we are told that vampires can only be born not turned (or made), but then we meet a made vampire, and no explanation is offered on how this was possible. Also, I don't have many pet peeves in life, but when I see one that really irritate me, I have to call it out. Vampire do not drink blood for "substance!" That would be impossible. But they do drink blood for "sustenance." Yes, there is a difference.

Brooke and Kaitlynn friendship was great, and I appreciated how Brooke turned to Kaitlynn in her times of need instead of running off to the boy. But, I can't hide my disappointment in finding that no actual drinking of blood occurred in this vampire story. I got a glimpse of Brooke, a half-breed, craving blood for a moment, but wasn't enough. To read a whole novel and not 'see' a vampire drink blood was odd.

Descended by Blood proved to be fast paced, action filled start to a series that is full of promise. Brook is an emotional character that seems to be headed towards something interesting, and I hope the next part of her journey fills in the gaps that seemed underdeveloped in this first book.

"Will you mess up my bed with me?"

What a wondrous read this turned out to be! Descended by Blood by Angeline Kace has left me at awh as to how to put my thoughts on the computer screen. Descended by Blood takes on a paranormal that I for one am very picky about, vampires. I am a very picky person with vampire books, a lot of vampire books I have read in the past, have not appealed all that much to me. Descended by Blood was great. I loved it. I loved the characters I loved the world that Angeline so awesome-ly put together..I just loved this book.

Descended by Blood is in the eyes of Brooke, Brooke is a normal teenage girl she has her best friend Kaitlynn, and her new boyfriend Jaren who she is completly in love with. Brookes normal life gets turned upside down when she realizes she is being stalked by a strange man. One day while hanging out with Jaren the strange man breaks into Jarens apartment and attacks them and tries to kidnap Brooke..Brooke kills this man..and the scary part is? It was easy. Now Brookes whole life is being flipped, she is finding out she is half vampire, and her dad that she has never met is a very powerful vampire. Now Brooke has to hide, because someone is after her. Not only does Brooke have to hide, so does Kaitlynn, and so does Jaren who since finding out Brooke is half-vampire has said they need to take a break.

As if Brookes life isn't already complicated enough she also has Mirko, Mirko is there guide to taking them into hiding. Mirko is snarky, cocky, and a totally hot vampire. Even though he tries to act cool, Brooke knows deep down he is caring, and now she is finding herself caring for him in just the same way, but her and Jaren are still talking and her heart doesn't know what to do.

Descended by Blood was an amazing read, even though I feel the love between Jaren and Brooke didn't make as much sense. I am hoping that means that her and Mirko will be together in the end. The characters in this book were amazing, Brooke is such a strong character, but knows when to show her emotions. Kaitlynn is a wonderful delight for a best friend, Jaren is caring, but he was my least favorite character, he breaks up with Brooke after finding out she is half-vampire, but then right as soon as Mirko shows intrest in Brooke he gets protective of her, if he truely 'loved' her like he says over and over he does he would've went along things differently.

Mirko...ah Mirko I could talk about him alllll day long. He is sexy, he is cocky, but he is also caring and protective..and 100% yummy. I absoultely adored him. He was my favorite character of all, Angeline put him together perfetly. I seriously am gonna freak out if this series ends with Brooke and Jaren.

Anyways, Descnded by Blood is a wonderful debut it had a beautiful combination of everything anyone could want in a series, there was love, there was loss, there was action there was everything. Descended by Blood has left me yearning for book two. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read. (:

Reviewed for On a Book Bender.

I'm really, really wavering on what sort of rating to give this book. While it's not bad by any means, I had heard so much about it by the time I picked it up that my expectations were through the roof. Unfortunately, those expectations weren't met. So, I'm going back and forth. I did enjoy aspects of the book but I was expecting to be blown away and I wasn't.

To start with... Brooke. While I can appreciate that she's been thrown into a situation that she knows nothing about, I had a hard time (a) relating to her relationship woes when she was in the middle of what could potentially be a life and death situation and (b) listening to her harangue her ex-ish boyfriend on his flip-flopping emotions when she's doing some emotional flip-flopping of her own between him and Mirko. To be honest, I wasn't enamored of the love triangle aspect. It felt like Brooke "fell in love" with Jaran waaaaay too quickly and suddenly they were exchanging I love yous and gooey eyes. The Mirko steps into the picture and she's unwillingly attracted to him. But she still wants Jaran. Who's human. And will age. And is super easy to kill. I just... don't see that going anywhere.

Meanwhile, Mirko. He didn't endear himself to me when we first met him. He was rude and arrogant and I kept thinking "GEEZ! Show a little compassion, her whole life has been thrown out of whack. Jerk." Admittedly, he got better. But then he got all needy and I was all "WAIT A SEC! Why is he begging Brooke to pick him when she barely knows him?" His begging kind of threw me because it felt out of character. Did I miss something vital about him here? Something that would make this arrogant, strong character act so very differently from how he had acted previously? I don't know.

Then we have the best friend. Kaitlynn. I can't figure out why she was included in their little gathering other than to provide Brooke with some female companionship. By adding her to their group, she's now been put in the line of fire. Her life is in danger when it wasn't before. She has no physical skills. She's walking bait, basically. And... I can't figure out why she was included.

Honestly, I didn't hate this book by any stretch of the imagination but I could never quite get behind what was happening. If your life is in danger - and it's something that you've experienced firsthand after a brutal attack - is your focus really going to be on whether or not your ex-boyfriend is making eyes at the trampy vamp or is going to be on finding a way to make yourself stronger and faster and better able to take care of your friends? It isn't until Brooke's powers put her friends in danger that she starts taking her training seriously. By that point she had been attacked more than once and Kaitlynn had been held hostage (albeit briefly).

Interesting world-building and a nice take on the vampire genre, but I was never dragged into the story like I was expecting to be.

I love the cover on this book, that is what made me want to read it. I did like the plot, but I found that the characters were annoying enough that I had a very hard time finishing it. Brooke though she is an okay character, I found I didn't relate to her at all. One minute she is in love with one boy then the next she is in love with another boy, then finally she is in love with both boys. To me this is just too much. I understand the whole love triangle, but this is one I just don't really get some of the players. In the end I was just left wondering what Brooke was really feeling, was she in love with 2 guys or was she just leading them both on to make herself feel better.

So to start the book, we have Brooke who has finally gotten noticed by the boy of her dreams (Jaren) and he is now on the market for a new GF. They start to see each other, then low and behold the lovely Jaren gets caught out with the old GF and admits he kissed her. (Okay this is not very far into the book, kinda seems to happen a little fast) He then uses the lame excuse that he and Brooke have not really committed to each other so he was not cheating on her but now that he has kissed his ex he realizes he only wants to be with Brooke. So Brooke being the nice girl that she is she takes him back, though I can't see why.

Next bit of drama is that BF Jaren gets kicked out by his Dad on his 18th bday. Brooke and Jaren set out to find him an apartment and get him set up. A bit later some strange guy attacks her and she kills him at Jaren's place. She calls her Mom, finds out she is half Pijawikan (Vamp) and she needs to go into hiding. The lovely Jaren won't have anything to do with her and tells her he needs some space. Yes I don't like Jaren at all! To bad he has to go with her because now people know about him and he might be in danger as well.

Then we meet Mirko. Now here is the prize of this triangle. I can say I loved his personality, him and Kaitlynn are my favourite characters. Mirko is hired to protect and train Brooke, but along the way he falls for Brooke and talks about himself, telling her stuff he has never told anyone. Mirko made the book worth reading. He is a funny, kind, caring guy, who honestly seems to care for Brooke. Needless to say if there is any team in this, I am all TEAM MIRKO. So basically for the rest of the book it is training, fighting and trying to find out who is trying to grab Brooke.

I can't say I didn't enjoy the plot, I did, just with Brooke being such a weak pushover I had a hard time keeping with it. I would say this is a good book for someone who is into all the teenage angst that is going on. Just not for me.

This debut, the first of the Vampire Born trilogy novels from Angeline Kace, was an absolute smash hit for me. I read this in almost one sitting (would have, were it not for pesky things like responsibilities). I was totally sucked into this new world she created, and just could not get enough. Action packed from the beginning, Angeline Kace masterfully takes us on a journey full of new vampire lore, intense action, love, betrayal and self-discovery. This story is seriously amazing.

I love the fact that you can see how much research went into DESCENDED BY BLOOD. Kace really took a chance in creating a new set of rules for vampires. A lot of times that risk won't work out and results in a reader that is left unfulfilled and confused. Certainly not the case in this story. I was drawn in by Kace's storytelling and was genuinely interested in learning more about each character and the history of the Pijawikans (vampires to us, but to them, that term is degrading) and their native Croatia. At every turn we learn more and more about each detail of the story. I was completely captivated by page three, and could not read fast enough.

The characters, main, secondary and others were very well built (especially one in particular, named Mirko *ahem*). I was very emotionally invested and admit to choking up when disaster strikes and one of my favorites was taken out. I hate when that happens! But it just shows that Angeline Kace knows what's she's doing and isn't afraid to make a sacrifice to better her story, which is what happened in this certain scenario.

Angeline Kace is a new author that you definitely need to check out and keep your eye on. DESCENDED BY BLOOD is the first book in the Vampire Born trilogy, and I am (almost) literally chomping at the bit (and maybe drooling) to get my hands on book number two.

I really really enjoyed this book. I liked how it sort of twisted and changed throughout and left a really nail biting cliffhanger at the end that made me squeal with the thought of the next book.
Brooke finds out in a really awkward waythats she's half vamp, that someone wants her killed as she's considerd am abomination and has to go on the run whilst learning to control her new powers. Also there's two very hit guys to choose from!
In the beginning I love love loved Jaren! What girl couldn't? Popular, gorgeous, sweet and not afraid to let his feelings bleed through. But then what the hell? As soon as he finds out what Brooke is, he doesn't leg it like most-which is brave but he breaks it off with her? Douchebag. And then has the nerve to flirt with another Full blooded vampire? Please! Eugh.
Them enters Mirko, ah! Brave, also swoon worthy in the looks department but has that edge. The bad boy snarky attitude with confidence and not afraid to take what we wants. But has a bad past that makes you also want to admire him for. Yeah Mirko *sigh*.
But I will never forget Lijepa! I actually had a good cry when I found out what appeared to her! Made. E feel sick and angry for vengeance. Such a loving woman whom took on kind of a grandmotherly role. She dies protecting someone she came to love and as brave and honourable as she was I wished things turned out differently for her.
Kaitlynn-is every girls dream best friend! I love her and she was a great addition to this amazing novel/series whatever!
I love Brooke's kick-ass powers! They were wicked and how that 'bitter' taste of her powers was revealed when you least expected!
This novel was so soo well written and I enjoyed it immensely! The best part is that I had it for free! I can now go and buy the others knowing that my money would be well spent on a quality read!
Loved it that's all there is too it!!

Brooke is enjoying her life at her new school. Having been moved around very often by her mom, Brooke is excited to finally be somewhere long enough to make friends. When the boy she likes finally goes out with here, it looks likes things are really going great. A close call with a mountain lion puts Brooke and her friend on edge though. When it becomes obvious that someone is after her, Brooke is soon thrown into a world she had no idea existed. She learns vampires are real, and she has a much closer connection to them than she ever knew. Whether this connection will be enough to save her or not is another question entirely.

I loved this book! Vampire books and romance books (or vampire books with romance) are not exactly at the top of my list of favorites. I was very pleasantly surprised. I think Brooke could have easily become a sort of mopey character, but happily she avoided that. Her strengths and abilities had to be worked on, which is a welcome change from "special" leads magically being awesome at everything. She had an awesome friend, and all the other characters were interesting too. Like many romances, Brooke's was rather fast, but it never felt too rushed. It made sense in the context of the story.

I really liked the vampires in this book. Vampires typically seem very parasitic, drinking blood from their victims by force. This also forces the victims to become vampires. The vampire/non-vampire relationship in this book was much more symbiotic, which makes it much easier to actually like the vampires you're supposed to like. This book had a lot of fun elements. I think it is super enjoyable, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

I won Descended by Blood in a goodreads giveaway. It was signed and even came with a signed bookmark! I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised with it. There was some action, some adventure, and of course the romance. Brooke was a little emotional, and seemed to fall hard for the two guys in her life a little too quickly, but that could be chalked up to her vampire side. I just hope that's not what a normal 16 yr old girl is like, otherwise I'm in big trouble when my daughters get older! Angeline Kace did a wonderful job on her debut novel, and I think she's on the fast track to becoming one of the next big things! If her second book in the trilogy is as good as the first, I may have to compare her to Stephenie Meyer. Although I'm not going for team Mirko or team Jaren (I AM a straight man!) I will be for team Brooke. Any chick that can kick ass AND teleport deserves mad props.

What a great read! This is not some *copycat* vamp story, it is very refreshing and original! The characters are very lifelike and have depth. You are interested in them from the start. At one point I was like some of these don't speak like teenagers but yeah they are not supposed to :)

The story line is very interesting and full of suspense and action. There is a great foundation for a great series! I cannot wait to read more from Angeline she is truly a great author. Also, there is Mirko *umm yeah* I have picked my awesomeness now you go pick it up and see!! GO GET IT !!

This book was a free Kindle book that I had downloaded... I mean, free & vampires? Why not? Vampires are in at least my top 5 of subjects that I love to read about.

Overall, I would rate it "fair". It's not bad, but it wasn't one that I was hooked to. Unfortunately, it starts off fairly annoying... with the whole girl trying to get a boyfriend "because he's the popular hot guy at school, so why else" and being "in love" within a day or so. I understand it is a YA novel, but the whiny-ness & dialogue in the beginning was more of preteens.

But, I never give up on a book, and it did get a bit better. The take on vampires (how they are born, can procreate, etc) is unique. The characters are likable after awhile (although the human ones are written a little boring, making them hard to care for), and you do end up wondering where the romance aspect will go. This book is a pretty short read.

I enjoyed this. It wasn't a typical twilight type which was refreshing. I like how the world developed. I felt the story developed very fast after the first paranormal sighting. I liked the ideas used but just felt that it needed to be stretched out a little more. I felt that Brooke was a little immature at times and her friend just upping and leaving how she did is a little unbelievable.

WOW What a way to end a book! Talk about major cliffhanger!!! And the book hasn’t even come out yet! YIKES! How am I ever going to find out what she tells Jaren at the end! WOW! That was harsh 

The book was pretty great though – I think I was more excited about the Pijawika (Vampire) coming to Utah – about a 20 min drive from my house! *Squeals!*

ANYWAYS – So – the book was pretty exciting – I almost can’t remember how it starts – because once they get to Utah – lol – A LOT happens!

SO we start the book with Brooke meeting her BFF Kaitlin in the mountains for their normal early fall hike – They started talking about every day things – but mostly about Jaren *sigh*
Because Brooke had been looking at Jaren for 2 whole years – but word says – he and Tiffany broke up – for good this time .. YEAH! But See Brooke is a little shy – she didn’t feel comfortable asking jaren out on a date –
But it finally happened –they were flirting in class like they usually do – and she told him about the meteor shower that was coming up – and then Jaren asked who the lucky guy was that was going wit her.

Kaitlin – being her BFF – and her fun sense of humor was all excited about Brooke’s date –
But all of a sudden – a Mountain Lion stalks into their path on the mountain – and they freeze …..

So 2 days later when Brooke and Jaren actually went out on their date – everything went perfect! It was like they hit it off right away!
We learn all about their family life – how Jaren’s parent got a devoice and his dad is the biggest jerk around – yeah – keep reading – he turns into a TOTAL Sleez of a dad! Seriously! I was really ticked off at him!
We also learn about Brooke – her dad was also a loser who took off when he found out her mom was pregnant – and her mom is scared of something because she freaks out over every little thing and takes off – they have moved
Everywhere in the past 16 years of Brookes life – and she is so happy she has finally stayed in one p lace for longer then 2 years – she is starting to feel confident that she will have a permanent home 

SO they make plans for the next night – after Jaren gets off work – he and his Friend David come over and Brooke, Kaitlynn and the guys hang out and watch a movie – Brooke and David hit it off pretty quickly 

Everything was fine and everyone was happy and together – then one day after school, Brooke went shopping with Kaitlyn and her mom – when she got home, she got a phone call from Kaitylnn saying she heard that Jaren was out walking in the park with Tiffany –
Ugh-oh – So Brooke stayed up all night freaking out that jaren and Tiffany were getting back together –

Next day – Jaren comes over to Brookes house and they go for a long silent drive – when they pull over and start talking – Jaren wanted to get out what he had to say before Brooke said anything –
Brooke was heartbroken and felt betrayed – sure they hadn’t made it official yet but she really though that they were going out together –
So jaren explains what happens – and even though Jaren was a jerk – he said he loved Brooke – and felt that they were meant to be – awe – worm fuzziness 

SO more dating goes on and once again everyone is happy and in love –
Then Jaren has his 18th birthday …. Remember when I said his father was a really big jerk – this is the part that confirms it the most –

SO Jaren packs his stuff to move out – Brooke helps him find his new place and they unpack and get him settled in –

That’s when the stranger comes to the house and pretty much DEMANDS that Brooke goes with him – Well she wasn’t going anywhere – and Jaren – being the Oh so Awesome boyfriend does what he can to protect her…
But does she really need protection?? When this stranger gets Jaren in a choke hold and jaren’s face starts to turn blue … Brooke feels some strange powers coming up to the surface .. she lets it all lose and kills the man!

She freaks out and calls her mom – and her mom tells her and Jaren to meet her –

That’s when we discover what Brooke really is

I wont give away any more details – but let’s say that since there is a strange Pijawika showed up at Jaren’s house – they realized that Brooke is no longer safe – so they make a few calls, Jaren is a little freaked out about all the new information – but then again, so is Brooke –
Jaren decides he needs a little break to figure things out – of course Brooke assumes the worse and can’t believe that Jaren would break up with her right now!!

So they find out they need to go to Utah to hide out – Brooke calls kaitlynn to let her know that she’s going away for a bit and that kaitlynn will be safer at home – but of course Kaitlynn is her BFF – there is NO WAY she is going to stay home when Brooke was in danger

And that’s how Brooke, Jaren, and Kaitlynn end up in Utah – with sexy Mirko at command post and Ace as security – this group goes through a LOT of ups and downs – physically AND emotionally –

Great book – I’m REALLY excited to read the next one now 

My Cover Thoughts: I absolutely love the cover. It is of a girl looking out at something. She is not sure what she is seeing but she is deep in thought.

My Thoughts/Review: Brooke is your normal teenage high school girl. She has a best friend that she shares everything with and is excited it is their Junior year and soon they will be out of school and on to college where they can be free. See Brooke has moved around more times than she can count so she is excited that she has stayed so long where she is and she has a best friend and a secret crush on the hottest senior in school that is now officially single. With her friends encouragement she accepts a date with Jaren. They hit it off so well on there date they decide to see each other again.

All that is glitter is not gold though because Brookes mother is keeping a secret from her that just may kill her. Out on one of their dates Brooke realizes she is being followed by a guy. At first she does not say anything but then while she is at Jarens apartment the man shows up and tells her she must go with him on her own or he will remove her physically. Brooke looks at him like he is stupid and Jaren asks him to leave but the guy storms in and throws Jaren against the wall and goes after Brooke. Brookes adrenaline kicks in and she fights the guy off and kills him. She is shaken and calls her mother and her mother tells her she has to go to her uncle’s house where she will be safe and she has to bring Jaren.

When they get to her uncles house she is told the truth about her and who she really is. Shocked by what she hears she retreats to her room because she is told she is leaving to be protected by someone named Mirko. To make matters worse Jaren can’t handle the secret and becomes hostile towards Brooke and tells her the relationship is done. When she talks to her mother she decides she will leave but she has to take her best friend to. All the plans are set in motion and the three of them start their journey to meet Mirko. When they reach him Brooke is instantly curious about him because he looks like a teen to so how is this teen going to protect her but everything is not what it seems.
Brooke will have to trust Mirko and trust her friends with her life and learn that loving someone and having a crush on them can make a world of difference when you are not sure you are going to survive the day. What is a girl to do? Can she stand up and become the one thing she fears? Will she chose the right love? You’ll just have to read the book to find out!

Memorable Quotes: Page 189 Jaren talking to Brooke: He got up from the bed. “Fine. I’ll be civil with him until Jelena is taken care of, but this is not over for him. I may have been stupid before by not fighting to keep you, but I won’t make that mistake twice. You loved me first, and I intend to keep you.” He walked toward the door. When he opened it, he paused and looked over his shoulder. “I really am glad you’re okay.” Then he turned so that he faced me. “I love you, Brooke.” My jaw dropped, and he stepped outside the door and closed it.

Page 219 Mirko talking to Brooke: “Mirko?” I gasped. Tears filled my eyes and a relieved sob escaped my throat. I didn’t pay any attention to the other man who stepped out of the back of the car and onto the concrete, or the men who moments ago, had prepared to attack me. Mirko sped toward me, jumping up and sliding his hip along the trunk of the car to get to me. He caught me under my arms and lifted me in the air, spinning me in a tight embrace. The ruffles in my gown expanded, encircling us in an amethyst river of silk. He dropped me enough that my feet touched the ground, but he didn’t release me. He pressed his lips to mine, saying everything that words did not: fear, excitement, passion, and power. When he withdrew, his eyes blazed with flecks of copper, and his lips curled. “I love you,” he said and linked his lips to mine again. At that moment, I knew I felt the same way for him.

Advice: This book is a must read. I loved how Angeline weaved a different story of vampires and how they came to be. This story had me on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down. When I was done I wanted more, I was not ready to stop reading about Mirko and Jaren and Brooke.

Just so everyone is prepared going into this review…. I loved this book, therefore there will be gushing. Consider yourself warned!

I picked Descended by Blood up as a free Amazon download. Honestly, I can’t turn down free, so downloading the book was a no brainer on my part. Then, as with a lot of my ‘freebies,’ I let it sit on my Kindle for a while before I opened it up and started reading it. Soon I started to see all the chatter surrounding this book. Not just from random tweets and posts, and Goodreads updates, but from bloggers and readers whose opinion I trust (and have also been known to bully me into quite a few great reads I might add.) I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about, and boy am I glad I did. This book was so much more than I expected. Wow… just wow!

I went into Descended by Blood knowing that it was about vampires. Honestly, the name kinda gave it away, but I started reading it without going back to read the synopsis. I’m kind of glad that I did that because the suspense that Angeline Kane builds in the story and her characters is worth just going along for the ride… and what a ride it is. The first chapter in this book is full of action and it doesn’t slow much from there. The mystery behind the action helps to build the suspense. Trust me, every bit of suspense, every question that is posed and every bit of frustration that Brooke is faced with you will experience and it is all worth it. *sigh*

The characters in Descended by Blood have depth and make you want to get to know them better. Kaitlynn, Brooke’s best friend, is worthy of her loyalty and friendship. Jaren does his best to be the perfect first boy friend, most of the time. Mirko… well, we’ll get to Mirko later. *swoon* Just know that as you read this book you will feel like you not only know but can relate to each of these characters. Kace helps you feel their pain, anger and so much more. None of the characters are perfect, but that just makes them more endearing. What’s not to love?

That brings us to the bad guys and Kace has provided readers with some really, really bad ones. The kind that are easy to hate and fear. Characters you would be crazy not to fear.

Yeah, this story is about vampires, but if that was all it was about I wouldn’t be rambling…. I don’t ramble for just any read. I ramble for the books that make me think and make me feel. The books that have depth and make you care. Descended by Blood does all that. At least it did for me. Brooke came to some pretty deep realizations about herself and others in her journey. They were lessons that were hard to learn but if they would have been easy they wouldn’t have meant as much. I loved watching her grow, mature and find the strength and knowledge she needed to survive. She had to make some tough decisions and grew with each one she made. Accepting herself was the first step. A great message for a YA book to portray.

And then there was Mirko…. I honestly don’t want to give anything away, and I hope that I haven’t. Mirko enters the story later in the book but he pretty much steals the show from his first scene. I’m not the only reader who wasn’t impressed with him at first and I honestly didn’t know what the fuss was about when I saw all the ‘Team Mirko’ references that started popping up. I’m going to end this review with a little secret. I don’t think that I have ever intentionally picked a ‘team’ when it comes to love triangles or interests. I prefer to let the author lead me and the character in whatever direction they are pulled. Not so with Descended by Blood. Sure, I’ve had preferences before. One character that I liked a little more than the other, but this is the very first time that I can honestly say that I have a real preference and may become ‘fan girl’ over it. I am totally ‘Team Mirko’ and am proud to say it! *swoon* big time!

I found this book very vague. Likewise, this book reminds me of another vampire book I've read with poor writing. But at least, i found it way better than the other book. However, is it that i'm not a fan of vampires that makes me rate this book low or not. But perhaps not, maybe it is the writing that disturbs me. It was too frustrating for me and on the first chapter i just wanted to give up on reading it.

Brooke's life starts off with her being a typical teenage girl. A best friend who she can trust, a boyfriend she'd a crush on for years. But when she realises that she's been stalked. Brooke learns her true self and as she is the catalyst to bringing the old ways back. With the encounters of vampires, she learns how to fight against evil in order for her to be safe and as well as those close to her.

I found Brooke, herself as a protagonist pretty annoying. She's naive and it seems as the world revolves around her. Brooke is also very immature and thought to realise that she won't just grow up. The two guys that been wanting her seems to put me off. I mean none of the guys are good enough for her and honestly Brooke as selfish as she is, i don't think she deserves to be with a gentle guy.

The book lack a few things including the fragility of the writing in dialogues as well as descriptions. The characters were also boring, Kace's description of the characters had naively lack development. It was also a short read. When i first saw this book, i'd really wanted to read it due to it's title and cover. I know, i'm so bad. But i can't help it. It's just my habit of judging a book. I thought that this book would surprise me and the story would be different. But it turns out it was a vampire story. Not that i have anything against it...
Its just that i'm not a fan of it.

I was very disappointed and was hoping more development. What i really dislike about books is when author makes the protagonist fall in love with guys so quickly. And this book had it, which disappoints me.

The only character that i was please with was Lijepa. Unfortunately for her, i won't be reading much about her anymore. The pacing of the book was also slow even though it was a short read. Some of the characters in this book didn't seem very important, for instance, Jaren is just there in part of Brooke's love life. The love triangle between Jaren, Brooke and Mirko did not entertained me. It illustrates as though i'm reading a love scene of very immature kids.

Now the story line i did like. The action in it was alright but the part when she gets into action and kills someone was just too fast. I mean just because she's from a very strong line of vampires doesn't mean she has to be. Her learning to fight seem quick but her intelligence is very poor. Kace could have done a good job in writing her book if it wasn't rushed. But i'm hoping the next installments had developed and improved but if not at least the story line would be interesting. And yes, i will continue to read this series even though it was a disappointment.

I just hope, that the next installments will not disappoint me.

2 rating.

My summary:

Although Brooke hasn’t spent a lot of time in one place, she has lived in Virginia for two years. For the first time, she has a BFF and a potential boyfriend. That boyfriend is Jaren the boy she has had a crush on for the whole two years she’s lived there. Her life could be perfect except that a strange man is following her and then tries to kidnap her. Her self-defense gets a little over the top and Brooke kills the man. Why doesn’t her mom want her calling the police? How did she defend herself from a man with fangs? With little to no choices, Brooke leaves to protect those she loves and find out more about who she really is. Someone wants her or wants her dead. Not a good feeling.

My Thoughts:

5 stars – a must read

I want to start with the cover. I love this cover and it suits the book so well. Brooke is this strong beautiful girl who hasn’t quite found herself yet. The picture on the front is the Brooke more at the end, a determined, confident girl with just a little edginess to her. I loved how Brooke grew in this book. She started out not always standing up for what she wanted to but when she figures out who she is things change. Her strength of character and body come out clearly. I love that about her. She's not perfect, but needs to grow into herself.

She has excellent taste in a BFF’s. Kaitlynn is fabulous. Talk about friendship. I could tell you about this wonderful scene where Kaitlynn probably wishes she wasn't with Brooke but I don't want to ruin it for you. The point is that Kaitlynn risks for her friend.

I love Brooke's choice of Jaren to crush on. It’s sweet how the relationship between Jaren and Brooke develops. The beginning of the book really focuses on that and it drew me right in. I had read ¼ of it without putting it down. I finished the book the next day. (I had work the next day or I would have been up all night finishing it.)

Things I really liked about this book:

The different spin Angeline puts on things.

Not love at first sight – well maybe it's lust at first sight

Brooke struggling to accept what and who she is

Brooke needing to learn to control what she is with some surprises

Kaitlynn as the BFF

Lots of cool magical powers

Great world building with a few twists on the normal lore

Gorgeous teacher for Brooke

Love triangle (Yep I liked this. Went from team A to team B to conflicted)

Mirko's confidence - I can still see him dancing on the... oh I shouldn't tell you that

Loved the jealousy from Jaren - poor boy shouldn't have... oh I can't say

Things that I didn’t like about this book:

Oh, wait there weren't any.

This is a great paranormal romance read. Check it out.

First and foremost, a warning: This review will be full of ooohs and aaahs. And also very much of this !!! That's all. Proceed with reading ;)
Oh my God! This book. If I start naming all of the reasons for liking it, it will be a LOOOONG list.
Okay, with this review I'll do a different tehnique. I'll start with what you see first. A.K.A. - the cover. Don't you just love it?? It's mysterious, it's magical, it's reddish! What more do I ask for?
Second, the title. Descended By Blood. It's got so much power in it and it's very captivating. Another point.
Third, the blurb (I'll insert it at the beggining). Boy of her dreams, a kidnapp, dangerous journey. WIN!
Next, the story itself was fresh and fun. Angeline managed to make me laugh, cry, giggle and everything else that comes with a book from the very beggining. I loved the romance, I loved Brooke and Kaitlynn's friendship, which proves that some bonds can last forever and suffer everything and still stay strong.
Now, let me skip to the end a bit here. I did not approve. I mean, Angeline, it's brillantly written and intense and all, but I do not like cliffhangers ;) I mean, it's my fault, not the author's, but I die when I have to wait. *wails* BUT then again, it is another plus, because it means it is THAT good. That you would do anything to get the sequel. Btw, Angeline, can you list me for ARC? ;) *winky winky*
And now, the reason number one why I fell in love with this book soooo much: Croatia
I think you want an explanation now, so, I'm from Croatia, sitting in chair in its capital city, like, right now. So imagine my surprise when I found out that Mirko, Jelena, Lijepa and couple of other characters are from here too?!?
I know you're wondering who the heck are 'Mirko, Jelena, Lijepa and couple of other characters'. I can't tell you everything about them, because it can be considered as a spoiler, but I can say this: Mirko is HOT ;) He is one of those blow-your-mind type of guys.
I liked his sarcasm, his lines, his nickname for Brooke. It was really CUTE *hint hint* - it is on Croatian, I understand it and you don't *sticks out tongue*
There were some sad moments in the book, one in specific. I don't wanna talk about it. :(
Anyway, Brooke is an awesome character. No matter that 'little sectret', she still stays cool and strong and brave. Kaitlynn, I admit, annoyed me a little. Now, the heroine's best friend always annoys me in books. Can't explain why, really can't. But like I said, it's not author's fault. So, I think I covered all major bits.
Oh, that's right! There are palačinke in this novel. Read it and find out what delicious dessert is that ;))
5 stars :)

English review: http://fridgeofbooks.blogspot.com/201...

Descended by Blood (Vampire Born #1)
By: Angeline Kace
ISBN: 9780983803713
Published August 26, 2011 by Accendo Press
Available format: Paperbook, ebook

My Rating: ★★★★★

Brooke Keller has spent her life starting over moving from town to town. When she finally settles in one place long enough to really build a life, she is suddenly attacked by both a mountain lion and a fanged man! Brooke soon learns her mother has kept a very important secret from her, and she embarks on a journey to find the one responsible for her attacks. Quickly exploring a side of herself she never even knew existed, Brooke is required to risk her life as well as those she loves the most.

First of all, I love this cover! I love the subtle colors and the dark, edgy hair and the enigmatic feel of it all. It is a perfect introduction to what is held within the book. Kace develops each character and the overall story at a perfect pace. There is plenty of mystery and action so that it isn’t all girly, love-triangle, teenage angst like a lot of the YA vampire books out there. Don’t be alarmed about the love-triangle, it is very much in the background of the main flow of things. There’s a little romance, but it really is all about Brooke finding out who she really is and setting out to learn more about herself and what is after her.

I think Mirko and Lijepa are my favorite characters. I just wish we had more explanation about how Mirko was made, and I wish there was more of Lijepa, period. Mirko definitely wins over Jaren for me. He obviously has the normal guy “primal” side, but he also has a sensitive, understanding side. And, well, he can kick some booty too.

Brooke is no weak heroine either, thank goodness! She has spunk and fire and strength, and I am loving that more and more these days. She is scared and confused, but she knows how to stand up for herself, even in the face of strong, angry vampires. She sets a wonderful example with her determination and self-sufficiency, something that has been rather hard to find in a lot of YA novels.

Gosh, I don’t know what else to say about this great read! I just can’t believe she left us hanging like that! I definitely can’t wait for the next installment of the series…

I wasn't sure what to expect when starting this book. I haven't been really into stories about vampires lately, but I am so glad I read this one. It's not just your typical vampire story. I was pulled in right from the beginning of the book, and it progressed wonderfully right through to the cliffhanger ending. It was an adrenaline rush from the start. The story moves fast and brings you from one thing to the next. The characters developed nicely and you really get a feel for them. I liked seeing Brooke change and really learn to stand up for herself and her friends, instead of being the girl who won't even defend herself against Jaren's snotty ex-girlfriend. She comes to accept her vampire blood and learns to embrace it and use it, though it does take a while and some help from Mirko, a wise very old vampire Lijepa, and her BFF Kaitlyn. Mirko helps train Brook how to fight, and Lijepa helps her to learn to use her special skills. Kaitlyn is the awesome BFF who is understanding and non judgmental and I really like her personality. I hope we get to see more of her in the future books. She really helps Brooke to just be who she is meant to be, and not to be so afraid. Onto the whole love triangle thing. I love how now being an adult I look back and laugh because I remember the drama of being a teenage girl with a crush, and how one minute it's heaven and the next you are an emotion wreck. The whole falling in love quick thing usually does bother me, but it doesn't so much in this book because it's a typical teenager thing. Brooke is so head over heals over Jaren, and has liked him forever so I can see how she's "in love" with him. I kinda don't really like Jaren much. I mean I feel a little bad for him because he's had a rough upbringing with a dad who doesn't care, but I don't think he is deserving of Brooke at all. He thinks he can just want her, and then not want her, and then want her again, all while expecting her to just take him back. Mirko on the other hand has wanted her the whole time he has known her and never wavered in his decision at all. Yes he's a little arrogant, but really he has every right to be so I am team Mirko all the way. I hope we get to know more about his deep dark past. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, and hope it continues on a fast paced thrill ride like this one.

Why I read the book: I was missing the vampire genre. It had been a while since I had read anything that featured vampires as the main characters in the story. Angeline’s book seemed to be something I was looking for to kick start my ventures back into the vampire coven.

What I liked: Angeline’s characters were well developed. There is Brooke, Jaren, and Mirko. They make up the love triangle. I never really liked geometry much but I love a well written triangle. Angeline writes the love interests in such a way that you root for each one and are torn between who you really want Brooke to be with. I know that I have chosen a side but I’m not telling who that is. Besides figuring out who will get her heart, Brooke has to come to terms with learning some life changing information about who she really is. Nothing is the same after that. I loved the story line. It made the genre feel new to me once again and I couldn’t put the story away. I pressed on until the end. Oh yeah, the ending. OMG! I finished the book and thought “Seriously, I didn’t see that coming.” What a tease you are Angeline 
What I didn’t like: The ending was a tease and I love that. What I don’t like is that I have too many questions now that I don’t have answers to until Angeline finishes book 2. She has assured me that a second book is in the works. Although I like the characters and their appeal, I was quite disappointed in Jaren for a while. That has nothing to do with the book just the way the character went from hot to cold back to hot in his feelings. I liked Brooke but she wavered in her decision about training a little too long for my liking. I see her as a strong character and I just felt she would have made up her mind a little sooner to train no matter what.
Recommendation: This is the first book from Angeline Kace. She has done an exceptional job on this story. Her story telling is solid and so are her characters. Anyone who loves a good vampire or paranormal romance will not be left disappointed. She has given the reader a love triangle to mix up the emotions, action to keep us on the edge of our seats, and a best friend relationship to keep Brooke grounded. The perfect recipe for a great read.

This book starts out action packed. Brooke (main character) & her best friend Kaitlyn are almost attacked in the woods by a mountain lion. The weird, crazy, strange thing about the attack. The man she saw standing in the woods is the one who made this lion attack them.
As freaky as this was. This was not the only attempt the man took in trying to get Brooke.
Brooke has been crushing super hard on Jaren. And finally, finally they are an item.
The creepy man in the woods, comes back to find Brooke. While she is at Jarens house. Jaren who tries .. key word being "tries" to protect Brooke is not match for mystery man. But, Brooke, my new favorite bad chick, really gives it to him.
Mystery Creep- 0 | Brooke- 1
After she tells her mother. They meet at her uncle's house to talk about this... situation. & the "situation" gets a little bigger. Seeing as how Brooke is Half Vampire. Yes, you heard it. Her mother tells her a little bit of information about herself that she has been keeping a secret. Even though this is thrown at her, she handles it well. I would have been FREAKING OUT!!!
Jaren being the chump he is- now needs some time away from Brook to absorb this information in his petty (I said petty, not pretty) little brain.
Yes, I guess you can tell I do not like Jaren. When Brooke needs him the most, he runs... chump.

Brooke, I assure you, doesn't have an easy life. Her mother for some reason she can't understand doesn't like to stay too long in a place so she could never have real friends. But now things are a little different. She has spent a couple of years in the same little town, got a BFF and her secret crush is finally available! Life couldn't be better.

Until the day she helps her boyfriend, Jaren, to move to his new place... A man that had been following Brooke (something that she knew but feared to tell if it meant moving again) entered the apartment and told her to go with him. Of course Jaren tried to stop the man but the only thing he got was a horrible bruise in the head and then something very odd happened... Brooke went for the man with an incredible speed and strength and killed him.

Panic rushed upon her and after calling her mother, who told her to meet and talk at her uncle's house, Brooke discovers that she is far away from been normal and that they've been hiding all these years. Now she has to take Jaren and Kaitlyn (her BFF) and run away to meet with a guy, Mirko, who will protect her.

The story is well developed and each character is perfectly defined. Brooke is strong and nice but at the same time lacks confidence. Despite that she ends up with the hot guy who turns out to be... well, I'm not going to spoil anything but I'm 100% Team Mirko! He is just the perfect guy and I'm completely in love with him.

The only thing I didn't like to much: why, o why, a girl would think that being a vampire is like being a monster?! Please, tell me. The fact that Brooke kept thinking that (she being a monster) annoyed me a little bit... But, don't get me wrong, this book is a MUST read. When I finished it I couldn't stop pressing the buttons hoping that I would find more hidden pages... I seriously need to read the second book right now!

Go and buy it, I promise you will have a terrific time reading it ;)

This is not your typical vampire story. These vampires can go out during the day and actually are born into what they are. They are called Pijawikas and Brooke finds out that she is half Pijawikas and half human. Just when her life was going along perfectly.

After finding out her true nature, Brooke, her best friend Kaitlynn and her boyfriend Jaren are all whisked away into hiding. She soon finds out that the Pijawikas people look at her as an abomination due to being a half breed and actually will threaten her life.

Along with all of that, there also begins a love triangle. I really enjoy the love triangles in stories. I think it makes the book more intense and this triangle was really intense! I cannot say whom I like more, Jaren or Mirka. They are both pretty great, but I will probably end up being Team Mirka. He seems to have a little more “bad boy” in him;-)

“Whoa, Jaren,” I stepped in front of him. “You broke up with me. Remember? Either I’m your girlfriend, or I’m not. But you do not get to push me away and then stake a claim on me when another dog comes sniffing around.”

Dear Ms. Kace, How can you leave me hanging like this? Cliffhanger ending! The story builds up leaving you wanting to have the next book right there…NOW! There is a little shock factor at the end and I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next book!

Will Brooke choose whom she loves more? Will she finally find out whom is threatening her life? Will she and her friends be safe enough to return home? Not sure, but the next book seems to be scheduled for release sometime in 2012. It cannot come soon enough!!!

He pulled away from me and cupped my head, stroking my outer ear lobe with his thumb. “Please choose me,” he pleaded.

Review originally posted at The Starry-Eyed Revue.

Before I proceed, I’d like to note that this was really more of a 3.5 star read for me. I can see the potential future novels have in this series, and so I wanted to rate it higher, but I’m rating this particular book, not the potential it garners.

The best thing about this novel? The inclusion of a hot Russian guy. The worst thing? The parallels I kept drawing between this novel and the Vampire Academy series (see aforementioned hot Russian guy). Not a terrible thing considering how much I enjoyed that series, but I did notice some similarities. However, I’d prefer not to be snarky and point those out, so I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions.

The first thing I observed was the immaturity of the protagonist’s voice. I noticed the same thing with Julie Kagawa’s The Iron King, though, and the subsequent novels totally blew me away and I actually found myself liking the main character in that series, so much that I didn’t like the fourth novel as well because she wasn’t featured in it much. So, I’m trusting the author of this book to do the same, and I believe Brooke’s character will grow and develop into a worthy character through the trials and experiences she undergoes in forthcoming books.

The premise, while not entirely unique, was intriguing and easy to follow, though not quite up to par with what I expected from this novel. I’m looking forward to seeing how everything pans out for Brooke, though, especially with that ending. Like I said, this story has definite potential, and it was a fun read. So, if you’re into vampires or hot Russian guys, or both, give this book a try. Per the Amazon product listing, the Kindle edition is on sale for $0.99 through September, so you can’t really go wrong!

Brooke Keller finally has been in one town long enough to have BFF Kaitlynn in her life and a date with cutie Jaren. After years of moving from one town to the next with her mom, this is huge that she has managed to stay in one place this long. Just when she thinks she might actually be able to lead a normal teenage life, in walks trouble. Unfortunately trouble is a shady-trench-coat-wearing-dude stalking Brooke. Once the guy tries and fails to kidnap Brooke, she learns she is not just a normal teen, but something more. Now her relationship with Jaren is taking a hit and she is forced to leave home to some where safe. Will Brooke get back to what she thought was a normal life or will things spiral out of control even more?

I found Kace’s view on vampires fascinating as well as the differences between the 2 types of vampires in the story. It really is an interesting and refreshing take she has on the world of vampires. You don’t leave feeling as if you have read it before. No sparkly vampires in this book!

I enjoyed the characters and the love triangle that emerges out of the story. I like that Brooke and Kaitlynn were so close. It took me back to my high school days and my best friends, and how I would have done anything for them. I did go into the book knowing beforehand that there would be a triangle. And once I started the story I figured I would be Team Jaren, then Mirko entered and all that changed. All I can say is whooo hellooo Mirko!

Descended by Blood is definitely a page turner filled with action, romance and twists you won’t see coming! There was so much goodness in this book you will not want to put it down.

This book was SO close to going on my 'Abandoned' shelf, but I forced myself to finish it because I don't like to give up on books.

The first nine chapters were EXTREMELY slow; "blah, blah, blah, Jaren is my huge crush and I want him to notice me," Brooke whines to Kaitlynn. Personally, I don't think that it was necessary to use NINE chapters in order to develop Brooke & Jaren's relationship. I also didn't see Jaren as an important character -- it seemed like he was just there to end the book with a love triangle in order to persuade readers to pick up the second book to find out what happens. Secondly, Brooke and Mirko. Brooke barely knows the guy, he's described as hot, dangerous etc etc etc and several chapters later they are in love with each other; WTH?

Overall, the storyline for Descended by Blood seemed underdeveloped and it was really hard for me to support the main character. I also didn't enjoy the romance -- sparks did not fly between the characters.

If you're looking for a story that is action packed and has a fantastic love triangle, I would recommend the following book:

The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis #1) by Sandy Williams
