First time I read this author I became thoroughly intrigued, so much so, that I have read everything else of his that I could find. His books often come up on Amazon and occasionally, are affordable, so well worth watching for if one wants an in-depth journey into Jewish Life in the UK throughout the ages. Berl Make Tea is a book of its time in the 1960s, well written, very funny, dry wit and clever humour.
I bought this paperback in a 'sale' bin at Woolworths in Plymstock, in about 1972 - I think it cost 10p. I have still got it 40 years later, and I have read it at least 6 or 7 times, as have my parents, brother, and several friends. It is just very funny, and I will probably continue to read and enjoy it for the rest of my life. It's about this harmless, inept, and unlucky Jewish chap called Berl, and his sad life. I love it. By the way, the title is actually 'Berl Make Tea'. Now, where is ?....I think it's time I read it again...
