Destiny's Revenge

Rate this book
There was no reason for Lauren to be in a coma. Her physical injuries had healed, but she had been non-responsive for so long that her doctors told her family and Max to move on. She awoke to find her life in a shambles; the man she loved was gone, her friends had moved on with their lives, and her family was ripped apart by her accident. No one knew of the evil forces watching, waiting for her in the shadows, in the lonely corners, even in the eyes of those she loved. Lauren needed to reclaim her destiny, to get her life back; the last thing she ever expected was Destiny’s Revenge.

Picking up where we left off, Lauren has woken up from the coma she was in for two years following her "bear attack". She is going through physical therapy and Max is in Afghanistan serving as a corpsman. Lauren has inherited the power of "sight" from her fight with the beast. She is able to leave her body and travel to where she wants to. She checks on Max in the desert saving a fellow soldier and waiting for rescue.

While recuperating from the coma she makes friends Joe, with an elderly gentleman that is recovering from hip surgery. Joe tells her he is getting a visitor and later comes to find her to introduce her to his grandson who is none other then....wait for it....MAX. Yay!

So if you want to know what happens next, quit looking at my review and get your own copy! I enjoyed this book even more then the first. Just when you are complacent, everything takes another turn. There is never a dull moment in the book and once again the book ends on another cliffhanger. Have Destiny's Wrath handy....

I had to read Destiny's Revenge right after I finished Meeting Destiny! I mean how could you have not with that cliff hanger! It killed me and then I read the first few chapters of Destiny's Revenge and it broke my heart! I was hoping for the cliff-hanger ending to be some type of fluke but it wasn't :( That's all I'm going to say about that because you people out there that haven't read Meeting Destiny don't want the ending to be spoiled because it is a biggy.
As you probably know every review I do I HAVE to mention the romance. It's just my favorite part and I can't help it! The romance in this book definitely did not disappoint and it definitely heated up a little bit! Max and Lauren go through plenty that tests their relationship but they get through it!
Ugh I really can't tell y'all much but this is definitely a great read and I loved going through the adventures with Max and Lauren and finding out how Lauren is Destiny! I loved finding out more about this world and I can't wait to get to Destiny's Wrath.

Another awesome installment in the Destiny series! Just as with the first, I couldn't put it down. I was so anxious to see how things worked out for Lauren and Max.

Loved the sarcasm and the action that I fould throughout. I also loved a twist on the "two sides to everything".

Can't wait to read the final book in the series. I have to know what happens. I have to read the resolution of the issues. I can't note the other things I need to know without spoilers.

Destiny's Revenge is the second book in Nancy Straight's Destiny series. I read book one as a R2R and liked it enough to carry on to book two and Im so glad I did.

I LOVED this book. A lot of my questions from book one were answered but more questions were raised leaving a terrific opening for Straight's third book. I really felt like the author grew as a writer from book one to this book. She really brought her A game!!! I was wholly impressed with her writing style as well as the character development. I also loved that we got two different POV's. In book one, we only got the heroin, Lauren's, POV. This time around, we also got an added bonus of having Max's POV to read from. That was a terrific switch up in my opinion. I think the author added a little something special to the events happening around Max and Lauren by giving us an insight into Max's POV as well as Lauren's.

I also really liked that, throughout book one and half way through book two, you are left feeling that you know whats happening with the two sides, the Counsel and the Cabinet. But then the author totally switches things around and you're not sure who the good guys are or who the bad guys are. I really liked that. I left me wondering and it also left me thinking about the characters, the story line as well as the event that had led up to that point in the story.

I also really fell in love with both the heroin and hero this go around. In book one, I liked Lauren and Max, but I was also a little put off by some of their action. In this book, I could really feel their struggles and my heart ached for both of them.

I would definitely suggest this book to anyone who likes a great story with great characters. I was impressed with the turn this book takes from book one and Im really looking forward to getting my hands on book three to finish out this fantastic story!

Meeting Destiny was an interesting tale of a young woman coming of age and recognizing her gift of clarivoyance.

Destiny's Revenge picks up the saga after Lauren's awakening from a two year coma. She wakes to a very different reality where family and friendshave seemingly moved on without her. Seth is with Amanda and Max has enlisted as a Corpsman in the Navy. She also discovers that she has awakened with a gift from her captor, the Beast. She now has the gift of sight which could be used to destroy him. Together with Max and assisted by Rewsna they work to foil the plans of the Beast and lead to his distruction.

I actually enjoyed this book more than I did Meeting Destiny. I felt for Max and Lauren because they had so much adversity in their fledgling relationship that it just didn't seem as if they would make it. It was interesting reading the interplay between them. Lauren's strength of character as a heroine was amazing. She knew what her gift was and she decided to use it to help others, no matter the cost to herself, and even at times, her relationship with Max. The pace was faster and Lauren's "powers" are more advanced in this book. Ms. Straight once again did an exemplary job conveying a unique and engaging story.

The ending to Meeting Destiny shook me up so badly, that I had to run and get the sequel before I burst. Learning that Max couldn't handle the pain and anguish and left Lauren there in a coma was excrutiating. But Lauren is strong and brave and independent and used her pain to carry her through her recovery.
It's a rare find for a sequel to outdo it's predecessor. But Nancy Straight has done just that in Destiny's Revenge. This novel is nothing short of riveting. The action, suspense, mystery, love and pain are present times two in this installment. When are these two going to learn that together they conquer but divided they fall? We'll have to see if they learn their lesson in book 3. And it can't come quick enough for me!

A continuation of Lauren and Max's adventure in life, after Lauren wakes up from her "coma" which was induced by with lack of a better word a demon named Samuel. Lauren again has to make her way back to Max who has gone off the be in the war since he couldn't stand to see Lauren in her "coma" which she is in for two years. Then Max is playing host for Samuel who has a strong obsession with Lauren. So again this story of love and faith has me infatuated, and leaves me wanting more.

Firstly, my thoughts on the cover. I think this model is so beautiful. Even better when you look at the paperback. She is simply stunning. I am a self-confessed cover-magpie, as regular visitors to my blog know by now. For me, there is something to be said about a remarkable cover as opposed to a cover that fades into the background. The cover for DESTINY'S REVENGE is one that stays with me. The colour is bold and striking. I could not have wished for better. The whole trilogy actually have some of the nicest covers I've ever seen.

I know you're thinking 'Oh just get on with it' so here goes:

Anyone who has read my review of it knows that I had a broken heart at the end of MEETING DESTINY.
I had a book hangover and could not read for a couple of days afterwards because the emotions stayed with me and I could not enjoy another book.
I read, a lot. So anyone who knows me knows that 2 days without reading is like a lifetime! But I was just too emotionally battered and raw. Seriously, if you think I'm being over-dramatic, go and read it for yourself. It will leave you reeling. I went through loss, sadness, hurt, heartbreak, anger. I defy you not to feel the same.

After reading a few others to give myself some distance, I finally managed to pluck up the courage to pick up DESTINY'S REVENGE. I knew I was in for another emotional battering so I mentally prepared myself.
Or so I thought.

I wasn't in fact as prepared as I had hoped. I got 17% through and I am not ashamed to admit, I cried like a baby. I will share with you my status update from Goodreads at the time:

"For all the hurt I felt, all the anger and frustration - I really felt broken at the end of Meeting Destiny. So much so, I delayed reading Destiny's Revenge. But now I've picked it up & am 6 chapters in. Now my heart has been put back. I just pray it doesn't get torn out again. I sometimes cry at the END of a book but this time, i've just started and am in floods."

DESTINY'S REVENGE starts where we left off at the end of MEETING DESTINY. Lauren was in an unexplained coma. Her physical injuries were healed and there was no other reason for her to still be in a coma. The doctors thought it best to move her to a care home where she would receive the best care, in the hopes that one day she would wake up.
It had been 2 and a half years since Lauren had been attacked by the bear whilst camping with her boyfriend Max. For all that time she had been in the coma. Max was by her side day and night for the first year but then he gave up hope that she would ever come out of it.

At this point I must make a little jump forward. I am too scared that I will a) reveal too much and b) start crying all over again.

So... fast forward to Max being home.

The man I love - I mean Lauren loves, Max is home from war. [no explanation, read the book & see what I mean] He goes to visit his grandfather, Joe who happens to be in the same care home as Lauren. [Lauren doesn't know that Max and Joe are related. Joe doesn't know she's Max's girlfriend. Max doesn't know that Lauren is out of the coma] He and Lauren have a wonderful, emotional reunion.

*Insert me crying like a baby here*

So now the pair are happily reunited, they can get on with a normal life. Right? Couldn't be more wrong!

I can't and won't tell you of the journey that awaits them. I don't like to overdo the details. All you need to know is this is one heck of a ride. From beginning to end, I was hooked. The only time I put it down was to go to bed last night (very grudgingly) and to take my son to school/collect him from school today. I really could not put it down. Too much was happening.

From the reunion of the two lovers, to the arrival of a very unwelcome [spoiler removed] called Samael. The journey is one of tension, emotion, happiness, sadness, a whole barrage of feelings that just slam into you one after the other. If I wasn't biting my nails, I was laughing or crying, I was sitting on the edge of my seat - praying for a good outcome for Lauren, Max and all they hold dear.

For me, this book was like a drug. I was the junkie and this was my fix. There are not enough words in the English language to describe how much this book stole my heart. Nancy Straight did it again.
I wasn't sure how the sequel would match up to the first book but it was just as emotional, just as gut-wrenching.

I will share with you the status update I wrote upon finishing...

"Whilst the last book ended on a note of sadness, loss, anger & broke my heart - this book ended in shock and anticipation. What is it that makes Nancy not end these books on a happier note? I can't wait to read Destinys Wrath. I can only hope as it ends the much beloved trilogy, that it ends happily. it's not a fairytale but we all dream of happily ever after!"

I can honestly say, though my heart doesn't hurt as much at the end of this book, I am still approaching DESTINY'S WRATH with some trepidation. I never know what is coming next in these books. One of the things I love so much about Nancy Straight is, you never know what's coming. Nothing about these books is in the slightest bit predictable. You might think you know where it's headed but let me tell you, you are SO wrong!

What more can I say? Only that I love Nancy's style of writing and I wish I were half as talented as her. It is truly amazing how an author can be responsible for so many emotions within my head, heart and soul!
I know this book, this trilogy, will stay with me and I will be telling people about them for many years to come.

I have been lucky enough to receive an email from Nancy today saying that she is sending me books 2 & 3 in paperback. (I already have book 1). This means that I will have a SIGNED trilogy for keeps AND another to give away!! I am so excited. Beyond excited really. So stay tuned for details. When they arrive, I will be sure to let you know!

Thank you Nancy for allowing me the chance to read & review your beautiful books. I hope what you told me is true and that you will continue to write many wonderful books!

Loved it!!! Excellent middle book to this series. It kept throwing me for loops. My head is still spinning.

Recommend : To all those who loved the first book! If you have not read the first book then what are you waiting for?

Warning: If you haven't read the first book(Meeting Destiny)then you will be reading some spoiler's that I have not hidden.

The theme of this book can be summed up by a song - Heartbeat by The Fray. *If you have read this book you will see many similarities in this song with what happens with Lauren and Max.

And you don’t look back, not for anything
‘Cause if you love someone, you love them all the same
If you love someone, you love them all the same

We get to watch Lauren and Max pull their relationship back together. They have to realize that they are not only stronger together, but no matter what happens(and there is plenty of things that happen) they will always love each other with every fiber of their being.

At the Beginning of this book Lauren wakes up to find . Thanks to the beast she can now spiritually visit other people. She uses this to visit Max on several occasions. We got to see Max save a life again.

*Don't worry Lauren and Max find each other again and I could not have been more surprised by how that happens.

During the Middle of the book I felt like I was in a tug-of-war match. Lauren and Max love each other, but circumstances have limited them to what is best and what they want. This is where we watch Lauren grow to realize that she has to have Max in her life to be complete, but at a price.

Making a Mad Dash to the End we see that Lauren and Max make a stand together. They truly show that as stated earlier, if you love someone, you love them all the same. Lauren loves Max and Max loves Lauren enough that they are willing to be together even though is part of Max. That is true devotion and it was refreshing to read that even though life isn't easy we still have to hold on to those we love and never look back!

Side Notes
*I loved Joe! It was so great to meet Max's .

*I loved all the twists and turns that are taken with The Council and their counterpart. I just don't know who to believe or who to side with. Amazing!

*I was so happy that Max finally in the end. Although, that happiness I am sure will be short lived as I start the next book.

Conclusion : this book was just as good as the first. I don't know how Nancy Straight does it, but she has kept me on my toes and surprised me with both books so far!

A new tone is set in Destiny's Revenge, the second book of the Destiny trilogy. There is an underlying feel of foreboding that radiates from the pages as the story progresses. I did not anticipate the turn that Destiny's Revenge took, I was completely blown away!

Now the hard part is going to be highlighting the story in a way that gives nothing away. Here it goes! Differences, Lauren and Max have both changed, they have both matured, but that is not the only difference. Their destiny was altered, consequently altering them as individuals. They each have a strenuous journey of re-discovery as they each battle their inner turmoils. Max is more hardened, which is to be expected, but he still very much has the ability to make the female readers' feel fluttery butterflies. In my eyes, Max is more desirable in Destiny's Revenge. Lauren has amped up her likableness by multitudes. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved her in Meeting Destiny, but she has grown into a more commendable, resolute young woman. She relies more on herself, only asking for help when she truly needs it. There is sparse interaction with secondary characters, but the reader won't be lacking as their attention is captured and held by Lauren. There are a few new characters that are introduced, some more amiable than others. There are two additions that I truly loved and was shocked and happy Nancy Straight chose to introduce them. They added to the story, complementing Lauren and Max's characters. Nancy Straight also slips in a treat for her fans in the form of Max's perspective. That's right, we get to delve into his psyche! I can only hope that we will get continued glimpses in the third and final installment, Destiny's Wrath!

All I can say, you better be prepared to pick your jaw up off the ground! I was capsized by a rogue wave, and that is how I will equate it: to being hit by a huge wave, sucked under, tossed around until you can't decipher which way is up or down. Then once you finally surface, you are left gasping for air trying to find your equilibrium. In one word: intense! The wheels in your head will be constantly spinning as new aspects are laid out in front of you. You lean to one side, then maybe start to lean to the other. You will have no idea who to believe or how it will end! The emotions are also more raw, almost gritty. And that is all I will say about the plot!

Nancy Straight is an exceptional author that goes above and beyond any expectations. She successfully ensnares the readers attention, never relinquishing the hold until you have the the last book in your hands, ready to shun the world and continue the adventure of Lauren and Max.

Review originally posted at Doodle's Book Blog

I fell in love with Lauren and Max in Meeting Destiny. Now, I'm more in love with them. Nancy Straight wrote an amazing second book to her Destiny Trilogy that left me wanting more.

Two years have passed. Lauren is just waking up from a coma. Max isn't around and Lauren is heartbroken. Her home is now a retirement center and it's there where she meets an old man who will forever change her Destiny.

Upon waking from a coma, Lauren learns that Max left her. The only explanation she receives is that the doctors never thought she would wake and told him to move on. So, he did the only thing he could... join the military. He thinks everything is his fault and throws himself in harms way to overcome his guilt. Sadly, she has no way of getting a hold of him. However, she is slowly learning how to use the gift she was given when she broke the binds that held her.

So much of this book was spent with Max and Lauren separated, which I liked. We got to know them a little in Meeting Destiny, but not to the extent we do now. With their separation came some negative outcomes, but that is what was foretold. Their separation would only cause bad things to happen and they are better together. In Meeting Destiny, we were introduced to one of many people who influence choices. Now we get to know a few more of those people, but we are never told which side or who specifically "the bad guy" is. Destiny's Revenge provides the reader with multiple perspectives and ideas of who that person is. In the end, I was have issues deciding who was good and who was bad.

Overall, Destiny's Revenge is a well written second addition to the trilogy. If you enjoyed Meeting Destiny, you need to read book two.

Nancy Strange has done it again. Destiny's Revenge is a fantastic book, longer, stronger, and full of the twists and turns I've come to expect from her stories.

This book picked up where Meeting Destiny, the first of the series, stopped. Lauren Davis is recovering from the attack while she was camping with her boyfriend, Max. When she wakes up from the coma, it's two years later and Max is in Afghanistan as a corpsman, having given up on her coming out of the coma.

I won't give the rest of the story away but Lauren comes into more of her powers, she learns of a Council that keeps an eye on the destiny of people on earth and a Cabinet of the Council's opposites. For the Counselor of Confidence, there is a Cabinet equal of Doubt.

And a demon who wants Lauren dead, or else.

This is a very long, meaty book. It's not a one-day read, it begs to be read slowly and savored. Max and Lauren, all of her friends, her parents, Peanut (my favorite character) and all of the Council/Cabinet people fill each page with a world that is part of this one and not at the same time.

Am I gushing? In a word, yes. I laughed, I cried, I screamed at some of the characters, and I sometimes had to put the book down and let the words sink in. I love Destiny's Revenge and I'm giving it five stars.

As I have said previously, I'm not into young adult books. This one really isn't young adult, there is some mild sexual discussion in it, so I would say it's not for under at least 15 year olds. But it is so good, I didn't even notice it was supposed to be a youth book.

It's so good, I'm going to go get the third and last book in her series, Destiny's Wrath, and start it soon.

If you have not read Meeting Destiny...then A.) there might be spoilers and B.) why the flip not?

Lauren wakes up and realizes years have passed and the man she loves has left her, believing she will never wake from her coma. Each day after she is fighting to walk again and busy making friends with one of the residents recovering from hip surgery. Yeah life is good for Lauren...she young and living in a nursing home. *Insert sarcastic sigh here*

Soon Lauren realizes that she gained a new talent when she was attacked by the evil beast in the mountains. She can see others in the present...which will help with staying one step ahead of the creature but also being able to drop in on those she loves. It's a blessing and a curse.

Ok, going to stop there and let you read the rest for yourself. I hate to give away awesome events in a review that will take place in this book. Yes, awesome and yummy events. Oh did that get your attention? Thought it might. But gosh, Straight had me doing 180’s on some of the characters towards the end of the book. It’s crazy how a twist in the story got me feeling totally different about certain people. This book will be weighing on my mind for several days.

Destiny’s Revenge was so, so good and I was so happy to be given the chance to read it so quickly after finishing up Meeting Destiny. Straight is a fabulous author and she really knows how to hook a person. I am officially obsessing over the plot and characters. Love it all! Eager to start up Destiny’s Wrath…BRING.IT.ON!

Great read. Just when you think that things will calm down, something else gets thrown into the mix and you are in for another joy ride. Lauren's life will never be the same and she has come to accept it but the cast of characters in this second book just goes to show how twisted Lauren's life has become. Max thinks he can be the prince in shinning armor and rescue Lauren and be her everything but in the real world it doesn't quite work out to be that way. In fact, I don't think Lauren would like it that way either. Love the drama and love the conflicting cast of characters. What will happen next? Will Max stand by Lauren? An exorcism ? I guess we shall see.

Nancy's style of writing has a way of surprising the reader when you least expect it. I found while reading her books that sometimes the character actions are not explained until later which is a great touch. Sometimes while reading I am thinking "what are you doing? are you insane?" These occur at times when the drama is unexpected and I enjoy these little surprises.

There are only so many words that can describe a book that is so amazing you cannot get it out of your head...so I am just going to be simple and say this book rocked, even more so than the first. The characters are amazing, the idea of the story is incredible, and I can’t get enough of it. Nancy Straight has come up with an authentic twist to the paranormal concept and I commend her for it. I loved that in this book we were able to get Max's perspective on what was going on in his head. Lauren and Max's relationship was mind blowing. There were a few sensual scenes in this book, but I loved how the author was able to keep it sweet and romantic without going into strong detail and making it explicit. Overall, the book is great. Read Meeting Destiny first, in order to the full of effect of everything going on. I assure you that if you love a good paranormal romance, this is the series for you. I cannot wait for the next book in the series and I'm positive it will just as amazing as the first two. Well done Nancy.

My Opinion:

Destiny's Revenge arrived in the mail about two weeks after I had read Meeting Destiny, the first book in the (GREAT) trilogy. I couldn't wait to received my own (AWESOME) copy of the two next books! As soon as the two arrived, I began reading this book.

At first, I couldn't believe how much I liked the first one, so I dug into the second book excited AND apprehensive. But, how stupid was I! The first and second book were so good, l because the author is simply AMAZING!

I love how Lauren evolved so much during the second book. And slowly, but neatly. But I kind of hated how Max and Samael... yeah.... I don't want to included spoilers....

Destiny's Revenge is full of perilous twists, and holds a great story.

Awaking from a coma is bad enough... but having been IN that coma for 2+ years? Not so good. Her love has abandanoned her (or so it seems?), family has moved on, fearing the worst but never totally leaving her side. What's a girl to do?

The continuing journey of Lauren, Max and their friends... or ARE they friends? Adding to the controversy and intrigue, Lauren and Max must can now only trust themselves. They want to live ordinary lives - together. Is it possible?

Once again, Nancy Straight takes us on a splendid ride! Every turn a surprise. Making us re-think what we thought we knew! Excellent writing and characters. Can't wait for Book #3!!
Hurry Nancy!

What can I say? This is a wonderful addition to the Destiny Series. Nancy Straight does it again. The characters draw you in from the beginning and keep you engrossed in their tale until the final page (at which point you are wishing for more). One cannot help feel for Lauren and Max and their struggle to lead normal, happy lives. As their adventure continues from the pages of Meeting Destiny, the reader is once again cheering their love on as they struggle against new enemies and evil. I cannot wait for the next book in this series; I know it will be as good, if not better, than its predecessors.

I definitely like the second book more than the first as the characters develop and grow. As the story evolves, so does the theme as the author adds new and intriguing complexities to the struggle between good and evil. As such, she requires us to reevaluate which characters are good and which are evil...in fact, we begin to realize that the question of who and what is evil may not even be the most important...or one with an answer.

A wonderful follow-up to Meeting Destiny, this book takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster as you follow more of Max and Lauren's search for a "normal" life. I was roped in from the beginning and just could not put this book down. This is a must read for every YA lover. Now, hurry up January 2012 so I can read some more in the Destiny series.

this was a great read from the beginning to the end. I never got bored or wondered when we would get back to 'the good stuff' because it was very exciting throughout. I liked that even when things were good, there was a sense of something coming around the corner that kept me from putting the book down. Really enjoyed both in this series and can't wait for book 3 to be released!

Seriously I read both your books yesterday. These were so good. I was totally floored by the outcome of their camping trip. That just stunk! But their reunion so sweet it made my heart just burst. I'm glad I don't have to wait an extreme amount of time for the last book. Two more weeks is still gonna kill me !

Let me tell you, every time I turned around this book was taking a different turn. This series is really great. I have no idea who is bad or who is good now. Excellent writing by Nancy Straight. You have no choice but to drive right in! My head was dizzy. It has definitely got the wow factor!

Destiny’s Revenge is a continuation of Max and Lauren’s story but it’s also much more than that. Ms. Straight delves into deeper themes of good vs evil and the interconnectedness (is that even a word?) of our lives.

For example, Lauren saved a life in the first book, Meeting Destiny, but because of it, someone else dies. Someone that would have made a difference for all mankind.

Fascinating new characters are introduced. And just like in real life, nothing is black and white. Beings I thought of as angelic have a darker side, and the one person I was certain was pure evil … well, the jury’s still out on that one.

Ms. Straight flexes her literary muscles in this second book, but she does it without sacrificing the nail-biting tension that kept me reading all night. I’m not going to start the next book at bedtime. (Yeah, right. I’ll start reading the instant I download it!) I just hope it’s released before noon!

Speaking of … Rumor has it that Destiny’s Wrath went out to beta-readers today! I can NOT wait to read it.

If you haven’t read Meeting Destiny yet, be sure to read it first. You’re gonna want all three books.

Destiny’s Revenge is the second book in the Destiny Series Trilogy; it was a thrill ride to write. Lauren finds her strength and resolve tested as the evil all around her tries to encompass her. Her love of Max and their destiny together guides her every decision. Rather than waiting for the evil to find her, she takes the fight to it and nearly loses Max and everyone she loves in the process. This story is at its core a love story, two people willing to do anything for each other – even standing toe to toe with the their worst fears. I hope you enjoy reading Destiny’s Revenge as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Another great installment! I'm loving the main characters heroism even in the face of adversity. And Max, oh Max! This book is a bit darker than the first one, but still great! Can't wait for the next book! Five glittery stars!
