Elevation to Krsna Consciousness

Rate this book
The quality of our consciousness goes up or down—and so do our moods—based on the choices we make. Krishna consciousness is both the highest consciousness attainable and the means to attain it.

The quality of our consciousness can go up or down, based on how we see the world and act in it. Acting like the permanent, spiritual beings we are—subordinate parts of a supreme whole—enhances our consciousness; we become happy. But if we make the happiness of our temporary body and mind our life's priority, our consciousness shrinks; misery sets in. Spiritual elevation—raising our consciousness to higher, happier levels—happens quickly when we revive our God consciousness.

In this compact book, Srila Prabhupada recommends seeing this world as it is—a temporary place, full of anxiety—and following the higher road toward the supreme person, Krishna. Anyone can become elevated; the journey begins with a single step up.

His Divine Grace Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (अभय चरणारविन्द भक्तिवेदान्त स्वामी प्रभुपाद)was born as Abhay Charan De on 1 September 1896 in Calcutta, India.

He first met his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Gosvami, in Calcutta in 1922. Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, a prominent devotional scholar and the founder of sixty-four branches of Gaudiya Mathas (Vedic institutes), liked this educated young man and convinced him to dedicate his life to teaching Vedic knowledge in the Western world. Srila Prabhupada became his student, and eleven years later (1933) at Allahabad, he became his formally initiated disciple.

At their first meeting, in 1922, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura requested Srila Prabhupada to broadcast Vedic knowledge through the English language. In the years that followed, Srila Prabhupada wrote a commentary on the Bhagavad-gita and in 1944, without assistance, started an English fortnightly magazine.

In the last ten years of his life, in spite of his advanced age, Srila Prabhupada circled the globe twelve times on lecture tours that have took him to six continents. In spite of such a vigorous schedule, Srila Prabhupada continued to write prolifically. His writings constitute a veritable library of Vedic philosophy, religion, literature and culture.

Another mysteriously wonderful book by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada. In just six chapters he explains the symptoms and qualities of a pure devotee and further how to achieve it.

He also beautifully explains the uniqueness in different forms of same Lord Krishna, one at Vrndavana, one at Dwarka and one at Kurukshetra.

It so happens that after every few pages he concludes to chant,
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare,
and I feel like why am I not chanting?

Jaya Srila Prabhupada.

The text beautifully guides us how to elevate ourselves from the materialist mindset to engaging in devotional service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna. It enjoins us to shun every worldly affair as veritable poison and engage ourselves in Bhakti and loving service of our Supreme Lord, Sri Krsna. Some flaws of impersonalists (Gyan yogis) have been pointed out and the sublimity of the path of Bhakti has been reinforced.

Interesting. Soothing. Loved reading it. Recommended for all.

A bombastic finish to what is really a convoluted book. The iskcon material so far seems to all be plagued by a distinct ability to stuff what carries the tone of instructional material full of unexplained Sanskrit terminology and lessons that really never reach any conclusion or follow any linearity whatsoever.

Still, I enjoy the subject matter and am amazed I ever learned enough to become interested, when this is the literature people have had to work with.

Highly recommend this masterpiece✨✨✨

It is amazing how such deep and complicated philosophy can be presented in such a simple way.
You simply keep reading and suddenly you realise that you have understood such elaborate concepts. Before you know it you get the answers to questions you have always been asking

“All that is required is that we seek refuge in the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa and render service unto Him by chanting His glories and pushing this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement in every town and village of the world.”
