Without the Red (or Soviet) Army, it is likely that the Western Allies would have taken much longer to defeat the Third Reich - they may even have lost altogether. However even decades after the war's end, little is widely known about this giant organization that numbered millions of soldiers. Broken down by key battles or campaigns within each theater of war, Order of The Red Army in World War II shows the strengths and organizational structures of the Red Army's ground forces campaign by campaign, building into a detailed compendium of information.
With extensive organizational diagrams and full-color campaign maps showing the disposition of units, Order of The Red Army in World War II is an easy-to-use guide to the Russian, Polish, Czech and units of other nationalities that served as part of Stalin's army, their strengths during key campaigns and battles, and details of where they served throughout the war. The book will be an essential reference guide for any serious enthusiast of World War II.
REVIEWS
A must have for anyone interested in World War II. This book gave me a much clearer picture of how the Red Army really worked in the Great Patriotic War, both the good and bad. Good writing combined with clear illustrations and insights make it a great addition to your historical library.

Note: Goodreads links all books written be people of the same name. The only book from me as of Nov. 29, 2020, is The Make-Out Room & Other Stories.
This book is mostly a brief overview of the Soviet Army's combat operations but tends to be spotty; while it covered the Khalkin Gol campaign and the 1940 Winter War, it has nothing about the August 1945 Manchuria campaign. The order of battle information is mostly diagram, with some tables listing the personnel and equipment of various types of brigades and divisions; there was very little OB information in the text of the book itself.
Porter provides a lavishly illustrated guide to the organization and activities of the Red Army in World War II. The work is organized chronologically, with a narrative text explaining the course of the war. The real heart of the book, however, can be found in the many organizational charts illustrating Red Army units from the highest to the lowest levels.
